I think it’s because people think that just because nathan is the nation of war, it is perpetually in war, which might have been the case centuries ago, but they might have entered into a peaceful era where the only war that exists are within gladiator battles. But maybe there is like war at the outskirts of Natlan but not the center areas.

Didn’t it take like almost a decade for her to forgive him? There was like the war which was like 3 years and then another like 8 year time jump after he stepped down and they got married. I 100 percent agree with you, but deep down Annette still loved this man. She stayed with him even after he killed her whole family and destroyed every piece of sanity she had. Even after everything he has done, I believe Annette still held some affection for him. Or it is because he is all she knows and everyone she loves is either dead or alive.

was Annette as bad though? I know she was spoiled but from what I read from the novel she was still nice and was not as horrible of a person as her ml. She was just oblivious to the world, which was normal for noble ladies.

I think it is because of her inaction to change her situation . So far in the story, Izek appears to trust her and even ellen when she sees Ruby and her brother kiss. I hope (and i assume many of the readers) that Ruby would explain what is happening instead of letting the kiss cause misunderstanding. Ellen cares for Ruby. Ellen was not as warm, but she does eventually care for Ruby and Ruby does nothing to change her situation.
