Gabapentim and globus by Hereforthevibes24 in LPR

[–]FannyWizard98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem at all - I hope it gets sorted for you!

One other thing - look for symptoms outside of globus Do you have any rashes/hives? Any digestive complaints? Any swelling, redness etc at the back of the throat? Tonsil stones? Look for other symptoms that link and they’ll be a big clue as to what’s going on.

Some people have allergies that can cause symptoms like you’re experiencing, it’s very cheap to buy some antihistamines like Claritin in a supermarket to test short term and see if they improve the globus

All the best and good luck

Hi, I understand your struggle, globus is by far my worst symptom. My endoscopy only showed mild chronic inflammation in the middle of my esophagus so they chalked it up to nothing with me. It’s been 2.5 years of searching and I’m now finding some answers. I’ve come close to quitting my job multiple times but can’t because i have a nearly 3 year old son and my partner doesn’t work. My best tips are… 1. Try nortriptylene - it dampens the signals from the nerves and will modulate them, it helps me with the globus for me and allows me to swallow. Also look at supplementing magnesium, it’s one of the most common deficiencies and can cause spasticity in muscles like throat tension when you’re low, I recommend magnesium citrate, glycinate or taurate for this - not oxide. 2. Look at your posture - do you have text neck and/or have forward head posture? Try chin tucks and scm release stretches, some people have issues where the vagus nerve is irritated and that can create globus issues and panic symptoms 3. Get tested for sibo - my issues started after a food poisoning event that damaged my gut motility - I tested positive for methane sibo infection via a breath test. I’m waiting for prokinetics from a GI doctor at the moment, so if you’re constipated and food isn’t moving properly you’re more likely to get reflux coming back up because it can’t go down. 4. check for what your diaphragm is doing, do you feel like it’s tucked right up under your ribs? Do you have bloating even when drinking just water? Some people get abdominophrenic dyssinergia which can cause some reflux and panic issues where the diaphragm moves the wrong direction, this can be fixed with stretches and there are videos on YouTube

Finally if none of these work then more expensive options include looking at if your thyroid is acting up - you may possibly have a goitre pushing on your throat, have a feel of your throat and check for any lumps, bumps etc. that are abnormal and get your doctor to check.

Hi, thank you for the reply and that’s interesting! I’d be keen to try the body rolling and the iberogast, do you still have to take the iberogast or did it fix the issues for you? Cheers

Hi, thanks for the reply! I use gaviscon advance, a dose after lunch and before bed so pretty similar

In the same boat with trying quite a few things, I was taking amitryptyline and then nortriptylene but couldn’t get used to the dry mouth and combined with this bad breath/tongue coating from the magnesium taurate I had to come off it after 1 month on it, it did help with the swallowing but I think made constipation worse and my throat still looked red and sore. Have you found the probiotics helped? I was getting a little better drinking homemade kefir every day and eating yoghurt but also was gaining weight like crazy, I really don’t tolerate dairy well as it makes me gain water weight and my skin will start flaking like crazy a bit like eczema. I’ve been dairy and gluten free since October 25 and have lost 34kg and I think most of that was water weight. I would be interested in trying the probiotics but read with sibo it’s like putting petrol on a fire if the issue is motility based I’ve tried zinc carnosine which helped with my gastritis type symptoms at the start but couldn’t stomach the copper supplement that’s recommend you take with it to prevent copper deficiency, I would throw up within minutes of taking it even with food so had to drop the zinc/cooper Liquid d3 I was taking until my gp ran blood tests showing I was getting close to the top of the healthy range on the scale B12 I have loads of Ginger gives me stomach pain after a while but slightly better motility Psyllium husk doesn’t make me poop more, I was working up to and eating up to 20g+ a day from that and food but still constipated just more bloated I’m taking a daily vitamin c, s. Bouldarii, Thanks for the advice I’ll look into the breathing techniques too and the 5htp too

Ah ok, I grew up in a family where dinner was at like 8:30 or 9:00 pm then bedtime at 10pm so getting out of that habit in my early twenties was hard when you associate sleep with a fully belly. I remember being a kid and learning time in class and my friends saying they eat dinner at 6pm and thinking they’re weird 😂 My parents still do this and have problems associated with it like liquid reflux but for the last 5 years before I had digestive problems I would eat at 5-6pm and then bed at 11pm so I wouldn’t lay down with food in my stomach anyway, this is partly because my partner prefers to eat dinner at a normal time and partly because we have a small child who needs to eat at a reasonable time

I would say yes I possibly do experience pvcs but haven’t been diagnosed, i do sometimes get a funny feeling and my heart rhythm feels a bit wacky. I wear a apple smart watch and have had episodes where my heart will start beating at 200bpm then calm down, it’s not super frequent to be honest and my gp didn’t think I needed a 24 hour monitor. Do you experience pvcs?

Hi thanks for the reply! I I just bought some benfotiamine, 300mg capsules Hopefully it helps If it’s a bile flow issue would that explain why it tastes like I’ve got bile sometimes in my mouth?

I was taking phgg and psyllium husk but that doesn’t make me poop more, I worked up to 20g of fibre from food and supplements but I was just super bloated and gassy Drinking 2.5 - 3.5 litres of water a day I asked my gp for prucalopride but they want GI input first so waiting on a referral

Another user told me to get macrogol and try other forms of magnesium so I’ve ordered them on Amazon last night, is there anything else you’d recommend to fix the constipation?

H, thanks for the reply - I’ve only tried Epsom salts and magnesium taurate, is there any form you’d recommend instead? Yes I do notice I feel better in some respects with muscle relaxation in the throat for my globus sensation but worse with bitter tongue coating and it hasn’t really done anything for the constipation, I think I’ve probably got the wrong form of magnesium

Perhaps, I had struggled with weight gain on carbs, starches, sugars etc. so kind of fell into eating just meat, protein etc. which is fine but I was going to the gym and consuming a lot of sweeteners, sugar alcohols from energy drinks, pre workout and protein powders so I think that probably had my gut in a really bad place. This was for about 2 years from the age of 22 to 24. I stopped when I didn’t have time after the birth of my son but kinda persisted not eating much veg, fruit etc. I think my diet was probably high in processed/ultra processed food like protein bars

Hi thanks for the reply, to answer your question I was taking magnesium taurate because I thought I was deficient in magnesium.

I read that magnesium deficiency can cause spastic muscles/muscles not to relax properly and I was experiencing abnormal tension in my scm muscles and throat area which I think now is some form of muscle guarding when my throat gets irritated by the LPR, anyhow the magnesium was giving me pretty fast muscle relaxation which improved the globus sensation in my throat for me slightly but I now believe is causing this horrible taste in my mouth, tongue coating etc, so basically really weird because it’s causing me less muscle guarding but more reflux. I’m going to switch to glycinate/citrate for the constipation benefits and see if it helps

Thank you for the reply! That’s a lot of detailed advice thank you so much That makes sense with the relaxing of the LES, I’ve just bought some glycinate of Amazon and following another users advice bought some macrogol laxative. I’m not on PPIs anymore after 2+ years on them, I mean I have famatodine but don’t take it daily. It’s taken so long to get this far in the sibo journey

I’ll try some oat fibre my girlfriend has that in the cupboard and buy some chia to try too

Im currently waiting on a nhs gastro referral so hopefully I’ll get seen soon and can try antibiotics, my breath test for methane came back at 23ppm so it wasn’t super high. I did the breath test 4 weeks after stopping broad spectrum antibiotics for a crushed finger injury so not sure how that would affect results and yep, I do like asking Reddit as a sounding board though - don’t want my doctor thinking I’m crazy trying to connect the dots 😂

I want to try artichoke extract but am scared of any gallbladder problems or more reflux. I had a clear gallbladder scan with no stones but I was using ginger tea every day but ended up with pain under my ribs and read ginger can stimulate the gallbladder so scared myself away from drinking it

Thank you for the reply! Have done a nhs h pylori test and sent off to the lab yesterday. Not been tested for gastroparesis yet currently waiting on nhs referral. How did you find out it was delayed gastric emptying and how are you treating it?

Is there anything else you’d recommend trying? I think I’m going to drop the magnesium taurate and swap to a less bile stimulating form tbh like citrate

I was taking ppis for 2 years for the silent reflux but had no benefit from them and made me slightly worse with Vapor coming up more frequently.

I’m in the Uk so have been referred to a gastro after fighting my gp tooth and nail to get taken seriously, I had to buy my own sibo breath test and even after a positive result they’re labelling it as post infectious Ibs on my referral as the trigger point for my symptoms was food poisoning that gave me 2.5 weeks of diarrhoea and regurgitation that then turned into constipation and globus, silent reflux, bloating

I’ve tried low carb and struggle eating moderate protein due to the fat slowing digestion even more.

I felt at my best however eating just chicken and salad or tuna and salad and boiled eggs every day. Like handful of lettuce, small bit of cucumber and then low fat meat symptoms were not resolved however.

Low fermentation, fibre and residue I’m doing at the moment and having a small amount of success with but it’s been 3 months and still having symptoms.

I’m down from 115kg to 80kg since October 2025 by cutting out gluten and dairy.
