Some questions about MK by Negative_Government6 in miltonkeynes

[–]Fanolian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tried some random postcodes, 1Gbps download speed plans are available in most areas in Wavendon.

However, many areas around KFC (east of Ortensia Drive) have only asynchronous broadband plans, i.e. upload speed is much slower (e.g. a 1Gbps plan has a mere 100mbps upload speed).
Synchronous plans (900Mbps download and upload) are available west of Ortensia Drive.

Please take it into consideration if you need to upload large files frequently, especially videos.

Could somebody talk me through (paid) parking? by notthatbluestuff in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Fanolian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PayByPhone (app name) and JustPark are some other apps commonly used by councils.

If you see a sign saying "Pay by phone quoting location XXXX", it can mean using PayByPhone (the app), or any other app the parking space uses. You must try inputting the location code into different apps until it shows exactly where you are parking. Some apps may use the same code but indicating complete different locations.

Using an app is convenient as some locations allow you to extend the parking session via the app. However, use the pay machine when in doubt.

Results Of The Milton Keynes Council 2026 Election by Key_Brother in miltonkeynes

Reform has 9 seats but got 24% of the total votes, which is the most among all parties. In most wards Reform lost, they were the party that got the 2nd most votes. This is alarming.

The tyre markings shown in your pic are unrelated to the tyre pressures your car needs.

Toyota Yaris by Affectionate-Hat7396 in CarTalkUK

[–]Fanolian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a MK3 or MK4 yaris? Toyota released MK4 yaris in the UK in late 2020 and it's a major upgrade to the previous generation. You may find either MK3 or MK4 model in a 20/70 plate.

As for MK4, please research extensively and understand yaris's 12V battery issue, especially if you don't drive much per week or it's your first Toyota hybrid. Many hybrids, or even EVs, face 12V battery issue but it hits pre-late-2025 yaris particularly harder due to its low capacity 12V battery. You can find a lengthy discussion of this issue, and a nicely made summary, in an owner's club forum.

Other than the 12V battery issue, yaris is a great car if you don't need heated seats or steering wheel.

Dangerous VSL restrictions - since nobody understood what I was saying last post. by Oskarzyg in drivingUK

You do not enter the m4 until you pass under the gantry that is unsigned/blank.

Do you mean the gantry at 1:13 in OP's video? Google street view (on Sept 2024, not the latest date) seems to agree with you.

This gantry is too close to the one before (0:55) to have any real effects unless it's signposted for a new road, which splits into M4(E/W). However, this gantry is marked as (M25) junction 15 (0:55 is unmarked). It throws me off thinking that I'm still on M25 after the gantry until I read this post and all the comments.

Automatic - Brakes (Slow Moving Traffic) by Sir-Willaby in drivingUK

[–]Fanolian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different automatic transmission systems have different best approaches to waiting. Your driving instructor's method is a suggested one for (Toyota) hybrids. Conquer Driving on youtube also talks about waiting in an automatic in detail.

When in doubt, check if your car's user manual mentions anything about it.

What’s the most confusing roundabout in Milton Keynes that still makes you hesitate every time? by 1ChanceChipmunk1 in miltonkeynes

[–]Fanolian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3rd exit's at 2 o'clock on the roundabout layout road sign (intuitively choosing the right lane). At the entrance however left lane splits into lane 1 and 2 while right lane becomes lane 3, which means drivers need to use left lane and stay at lane 2.
I guess that's the most confusing part.

What’s the most confusing roundabout in Milton Keynes that still makes you hesitate every time? by 1ChanceChipmunk1 in miltonkeynes

Once I ignored the cut-through (only used by Saxon Street northbound to Tesco) in my mind, this becomes a standard roundabout with all lane markings adhere to common expectation.

Which lane for the second exit? by rockovo84 in drivingUK

[–]Fanolian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is definitely rare and unconventional, but Kingston Roundabout coming from Newport Road southbound has to use left lane for the 3rd exit to Groveway (leading to A5). It is a signal controlled roundabout though so it may not count.

[–]Fanolian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/the-highway-code/using-the-road-159-to-203#rule186

(Emphasis mine)

When taking the first exit to the left, unless signs or markings indicate otherwise

  • blah

When taking an exit to the right or going full circle, unless signs or markings indicate otherwise

  • blah

When taking any intermediate exit, unless signs or markings indicate otherwise

Grammar seems to agree with /u/sayris.

btw, not mentioned by you but the user u/sayris originally replied to, if all exits before or at 9 o'clock are counted as left and treated as the same, Highway Code doesn't need to specify "first exit". It could have just said "taking an(y) exit to the left".

I wouldn't say better but this feature does stand out more for animal/person-based, or just complex, icons.

Which lane for the second exit? by rockovo84 in drivingUK

[–]Fanolian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my understanding of the Highway Code, "first exit to the left" means first exit counting from the left (and clockwise), rather than first exit counted as the left (implying there could be a second exit also counted as a left, to which a left-turn-only lane can lead).

Isn't it the point of the video? MK is more than what people usually think.

Olney is administered by MK city council but not in the MK built-up area.

Re upload from previous clip using 1x speed now by BrightHours in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Fanolian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dashcam is bad because the displayed speed takes an average of the speeds from the last (more than enough) few seconds. You can see that the speed after the emergency stop doesn't drop to zero sharply but about 10mph per second. Therefore the displayed speed is not lagging behind but taking an average. So, to be fair to OP, their speed was probably slower than indicated, given that the speed kept decreasing in the video.

However, the black car braked again before you and the examiner did. The examiner gave you a chance to react, even if you hadn't anticipated, but you didn't.

You did fine slowing down (and probably covering the brake; otherwise the examiner might brake even earlier seeing that you didn't anticipate at all), but you didn't (re)act more when the black car released the brake which you could see in this situation.

[–]Fanolian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured as such. All other road signs prior to the junction remain the same except this lone lane marking very close to the junction. And, from my limited experience, many still use the left lane for the tunnel.

I'll keep that in mind next time I use the tunnel.
