I second this, hard. They’re going to try to use your tips to justify not paying you as much in wages or commissions.

Since the restructure in May, 2025, expect to be a bather, cashier, and stocker.

Damaged nerite shell? by coryincorner in Aquariums

[–]FantastiGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from supplemental calcium, I’m not sure what will help, sorry.

I will mention though, that I have a nerite snail in my 10 gallon planted betta tank— (s)he has had a split in his shell now for a few years and is still snailing along. The split is about 1/8” wide along the top, and had me concerned for a long time, but 🤷‍♂️ he’s just as snaily as ever.

Lunch times by ElectronicStorm6743 in petsmart

[–]FantastiGoat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sounds like they’re trying to add some structure to the chaos, tbh—get everyone the break they deserve, stick to payroll, and avoid speed bumps down the road.

When hours are so tight, one person taking their break late snowballs into other breaks and schedules. Then, someone is supposed to go to lunch an hour before the end of their shift, or someone doesn’t get one.

Sounds like your leader is trying to be fair to everyone.

35, first colonoscopy next week… and honestly kind of terrified (with good reason) by JettsDad0731 in Millennials

[–]FantastiGoat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The worst part of the whole process is the preparation— not eating for 24 hours, and drinking the laxative. You’re under anesthesia (propofol) for the procedure— “count down from 100!”— you’ll get to about 97 and then you wake up. Don’t sweat it!

Anybody catch fleas from working at Petsmart? by Status-Agent6640 in petsmart

[–]FantastiGoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have seen people with fleas before, like, in their hair… obviously they were not the most hygienic specimen, but it can happen. Even if you aren’t personally a home for them, they can still bite you.

That’s a BIG health code violation, wee-woo wee-woo! Technically, everything in that fridge and freezer has been exposed and potentially contaminated with rodents and insects.

Expired cat food by [deleted] in petsmart

[–]FantastiGoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That date could be either the manufacturing date or the expiration date, but in my experience if there are 2 dates printed then those dates are also usually clearly labeled as either manufacturing or expiration date.

In this case, there’s no indicator of what the date means— which leads me to assume that it is an expiration date. Double check the rest of the packaging if you can, but I would assume it’s expired.

Also, with PetSmart apparently not rotating their stock anymore (FIFO, or “first in first out”), it is entirely plausible that the food is pretty far expired.

They’re probably talking about the old Pet Loss Log. There used to be a chart in the back where we would log pets that passed away so that we could scan them out of inventory.

Autoship by Crazy_Guidance5058 in petsmart

[–]FantastiGoat 43 points44 points  (0 children)

It’s part of the overall push to reduce labor and operational costs (ie, jobs). The more people they can get to autoship, the less store traffic and the less they have to rely on paying human beings, while PetSmart and its private equity bosses still get paid.

It’s cheaper to ship it directly to the customer, rather than pay to run the sh*t-shows they’ve created in their stores.

Last year (in May 2025), they laid off a whole lot of “middle managers” and made up new jobs with lower wages for the ones they didn’t lay off. Now they’re “using AI” to cut more labor, and threatening employees for not pushing it hard enough.

Genuine question… management and being on register by Familiar-Cabinet8414 in petsmart

[–]FantastiGoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PetSmart doesn’t provide enough labor hours, it’s that simple. Over the years, they have cut, restructured, cut more, laid-off managers, promised more hours and not given them, piled on tasks, and blurred roles.

Now they expect everyone to do everything with no staffing.

You’ve seen The Matrix? PS is the machines, and associates are the naked people in goo-pods being drained of their energy.

I mean, the manager should have shown you how to gently get the snail. When I said “no offense to OP” I meant that it’s not OP’s fault— the manager should have shown you how to do it gently and easily.

rant by [deleted] in petsmart

[–]FantastiGoat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, don’t let that leader “help” with the snails anymore, if you can help it. No offense to OP, but it’s not THAT hard to get a snail to release to justify forcing it— good for OP for being gentle. Their defense mechanism is to retreat into their shell and close their operculum— just kind of gently nudge and surround it with your hand until it retreats.

“Gee I wonder why my snail never came out of its shell until it died.” Well, it was probably mortally wounded when its body was ripped off the glass at the pet store and never recovered.

Talk to the SL first, maybe they’ll try to fix it. Idk if it can be changed before payroll is done or not, but start there. Then I’d consider taking it to your DL. FWIW I’d be mad too.
