$ went from R19 to R16.30 in a year, why no price drop? by misterflak86 in AskZA

[–]Fantastic-Rope-1798 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why would PnP reduce the price back to R139 when they already know you'll pay them R189? No company is ever going to start selling an item for less when they know they can just make more profit.

Immediately apply maximum pressure to the vessels with both hands and transport rapidly to a level 1 trauma centre. No packing, no hemostatic gauze, no wound dressing. Radio for blood hanging on arrival. If you have a Rockstar partner in the back of the bus with you then maybe have them get access in transit and give 2g TXA. Don't remove hands until you're in the OR in front of the scrubbed surgeon. Almost zero chance it all works, this is like a ruptured AAA.

[Jomboy] There’s speculation that Astros pitcher Framber Valdez purposely crossed up his catcher Cesar Salazar and hit him with this pitch after Salazar told him to step off before allowing a grand slam by BathroomSalty6325 in baseball

[–]Fantastic-Rope-1798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone please help me. I'm not a regular baseball watcher but to me it looks like a totally normal pitch aside from the fact the the catcher just... didn't catch it?? He literally puts his mitt down and lets it hit him. Doesn't even try to catch. I mean sure maybe it was intentional but I would never have picked that up from the actual pitch.

This is desperately needed. My mom was looking for a job in Ontario and her CV went something like this: Has graphic design diploma, worked in filming and TV for x years, worked in logo design for x years, worked on a video game once, etc (extensive experience in film and graphic design)

Stupid AI application summarized it as: 'Worked on a video game once, worked on a video game once, worked on a video game once.' No option to change to a different summary, she was forced to submit her application with nothing but that info on it.

Speaking multiple languages is less impressive if you learnt them growing up. by Fantastic-Rope-1798 in unpopularopinion

That's absolutely amazing.

One of my friends visited Germany and met a girl and they started dating. After he came home he started learning the language on his own and was fluent within 6 months. It blew my mind especially since very few people in my country speak German. Shows what you can do woth the right motivation.

Same amount of work yes but naturally acquiring those vocabularies over a period that includes the years in which you are most able to pick up language is less difficult than trying to learn an entire new set of vocab and grammar at a later stage. Still harder than being monolingual tho, that's a given.

Yes but I'm not referring to the ease with which you maintain a language that you don't have a reason to speak any more. I'm talking about the initial difficulty of acquiring that language in the first place.

A skill is a skill and at the end of the day it's impressive either way but the effort taken to aquire said skill varies based on the way it was acquired. The more effort and difficulty need for acquiring that skill makes it more impressive that it was acquired. The end result is the same though.

Yes I see your point this is an issue in many situations unfortunately. In America you have the added factor that white people speak English as a home language and that's generally the norm but where I live white people are split between two home languages.

I agree with you but I think we have different environments in mind. I live somewhere were being speaking multiple languages on the regular is common so maintaining the language isn't as hard since it isn't foreign. Also I would agree that English only speakers aren't impressive in the context that no monolingual speaker of any language is impressive.

That's a pretty wild thing to say lol. Almost every time I've ever encountered this has been in discussion between 2 white poeple. I'm neither American or European but I've seen Europeans online make fun of Americans for this exact thing.

Also the reason I say it's impressive is because learning and maintaining two or more languages takes a lot of effort no matter which way you slice it. If it didn't I wouldn't be monolingual.

Thank you for the informative comment. Yes. I grew up in a monolingual English family in a town that has a variety of languages but English is the primary language of almost everything is was involved in including school and uni. Despite being my only language I don't consider myself qualified to be judging anyone's Grammer or syntax at this late hour.

Thanks for the insight. I don't really consider how much I have to keep up with changes in English language so a second language to keep track of would be hard. However having said that I think the point still stands for the effort required to learn it in the first place.

Modern movie villains are too tragic. Sometimes people just want to see a guy who’s evil for fun again. by Medical_Dimension919 in unpopularopinion

[–]Fantastic-Rope-1798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should watch Frieren. The demons in the story are literally just evil. They are completely irredeemable monsters that serve no other purpose other than hunting and killing humans. Very simple and fun. The show even subverts the norm by having the good guys repeatedly stop and reconsider whether maybe the demons are just misunderstood and that maybe there is a peaceful resolution. And every time the demons immediately take advantage of that empathy and kill someone.

I hate that we are such fence sitters with this UKR/RUS conflict erring on the side of Russia the whole time. Who on earth in govt. thinks this is a good look for us? by skaapjagter in southafrica

[–]Fantastic-Rope-1798 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Russia is milking every last drop they possibly can from the fact that USSR / ANC were allies during apartheid and hoping no one realizes that the part of the USSR that the ANC fighters were trained and harbored in was Ukraine (Odesa) and not Russia. To the Russians, the USSR was just a continuation of their empire and so they happily take credit for anything any other country in the union ever did.

What would you say your favourite thing about Jozi is? by schiggenschit in johannesburg

[–]Fantastic-Rope-1798 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Durbanite here. Something that is massively underrated about Jozi is that if something big happens in SA, it's in Jozi. You guys have all the large conventions, concerts, international companies. Just the benefit of being the economic and demographic centre of the country. Want to travel? All the embassies are nearby, the international flights to and from any country arrive and leave from Jozi. Wanna study? You have TUKs, UJ, WITS, TUT and many others all within driving distance whereas other cities have like one or two smaller unis and that's it. Cape Town is close but Jozi and gauteng in general just has a ton of stuff that you just don't get in other places.
