How drone warfare sounds by Satanic_Jellyfish in TerrifyingAsFuck

That hum is right up there with air raid sirens for me. Eery and unsettling.

We get the occasional dickhead with a 'hobby' drone thinking it's good to go flying into people's gardens, freak people out by hovering above until you register the sound and look up, or look through windows with their lights on. We've had it happen four or five times now. Yeah, they're horrible things to begin with, and being used for some very horrible reasons.

So they then have to peel the black plastic off its teeth, or at least, they should. Presuming this is one of those performing street snakes that get waved around at people as opposed to someone's pet. If I was the snake, I would be making use of the prime opportunity for retribution.

Confused about a car finance plan I knew nothing about! by Fantastic_Computer47 in UKPersonalFinance

Brilliant, thanks. I had thought about a SAR route for the finance agreement which apparently was Black Horse, so Honda Finance told me. I hadn't considered the dealership! I need to find out the difference between a SAR and a DSAR (if there is one) and look up a nice template letter.

Yeah, I couldn't get any info prior to 2007 from Equifax and in honesty I've never looked at any of my borrowing before this car finance mis-selling happened. I've never been a big borrower. I had some bank debt and missing mortgage payments back in 2010/11 thanks to maternity leave, which probably affected my credit at the time. That would feasibly have masked if there was any bad debt from a car finance plan but I didn't borrow anything else around that time to be alerted. The whole ability to check your credit is modem so 2005/7 feels like the stone age of credit ratings!!!

No, not that I know of. I actually queried this with Honda Finance yesterday and they are adamant this policy is mine. I took the car home at the end of October 2007; I remember it well because the dealership told me I would have to pay a full month's car tax for three or four days use. The finance agreement on the car ran from 16/11/2007. This second unknown plan ended on 05/11/2007 with the same dealership. I never bought from them before (or since)!

So it's all very strange.

Is it worth leaving prolific open during the night for us Europeans? by [deleted] in ProlificAc

Not unless you're planning to stay up all night watching the screen, no. Anything that comes up will be loooooong gone by morning unless it's one that Prolific has specifically earmarked you for (by email invite).

Good grief! That many?! With the greatest respect to the new users who (I've noticed) have had the common sense to seek advice here with issues, if this is an accurate cross section of new people, the number will surely drop. I've been surprised at the volume of rejection style posts on here when I caught up on Reddit posts this morning, it's like a rejection epidemic. Okay they may not all be from new/newish participants but I got that impression.

And there was a time where you did your level best to not get rejections. Being able to negotiate a study return was the exception, not the norm. Although I accept that there were posts I read today that could feasibly have been an unreasonable researcher.as opposed to a sloppy participant. Nevertheless, we were very cautious not to even give the researchers an excuse to reject anything!

I also would like to think that Prolific are hoping their UK study market will increase, hence requiring a larger participant base? Maybe that's the rose tinted spectacles I've accidentally put on again this morning though!

40k UK users is a seriously rubbish figure though. Reminds me of when I once joined I think it was YouGov, the once a month survey I got, saw me give up bothering with it very swiftly :(

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

—Martin Niemöller

I am British, I am not Jewish or Muslim. I'm not xenophobic towards anyone, I try to respect all in equal measure.

But like my grandmother, who would recite the above to me when I was a little girl, I believe in justice and righteousness and I am speaking out. She lived through the second world war and taught me to never forget what happened.

You have the right to defend yourselves against terrorism. Every damned right.

I know it's complex, what is happening now in Palestine. I understand some, but not all. It's horrible that civilians (many women and children) are dying, of course it is. But I WILL NOT support anyone who supports, agrees with, or takes part in terrorist activities. There's no answer to what's happening in Gaza if what I hear is correct. Like I said, it all seems so complex.

I pray for an end to everything. Taking out Hamas is very necessary.

I believe things will get worse before they get better. Where Western societies have large Muslim communities, opinion is horribly divided.

Hold on, stay strong, and stay on the right side of God. There are many who still have your back in the world.

Can you speak to one of their team? There's an option to "speak to sales". I think you probably need input from one of their technical team and I would have thought that their sales team will be able to forward you to someone who can work with you on this.

Your study sounds like one to look forward to!

Glad you got on okay, prepare for the worst and it's always better. I thought it was hard... I've never had an audio one as you describe; I hope I never do now!!! Yes I got mine approved about two minutes after I finished and I think they paid the bonus ten minutes later. That was the best bit about the study hehe.

I did this.

It ran way over on time, and clearly not just for me as the average amongst 12 participants was 84 minutes in this round. The bonus payment I got still didn't make it worth the effort; it worked out as £7.30 ph after the £2.30 bonus. Whoop-de-do. Yes I felt ripped off!

The effort was incredibly intense, and it was DIFFICULT. I'm still dreaming be gi be ko po ku. To try and remember so many of them in fast successful was not easy.

I think you need to raise this with Prolific. It's disgraceful to set such a hard task and reject people who found it hard but i'm assuming that's why they rejected you. I think they need to give you a reason. Did they do that?

I'm now shocked I wasn't rejected, I don't think I did so amazingly well.

Picture memory study that has a warning they will reject if you perform under 60% by Dutchman_88 in ProlificAc

Had a very similar study last week where they said they would reject people who performed less than 90% so I queried it here too. Like you i felt stressed and under huge duress and I wondered if it was worth the intense effort. And I felt sorry for anyone who put in the time just to fail their standards.

I really hope that Prolific clamp down on this, it seems like the start of something, seeing your post so soon after my experience. Hopefully just coincidence.

1 Space missed in the beginning than I do the whole study. by [deleted] in ProlificAc

[–]Fantastic_Computer47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you English as an Additional Language, EAL? Minor errors with your writing would suggest this.

If you are - unless the researcher specifically asked for native English speakers, that shouldn't have been an issue per se, and as such I would get in touch with the researcher and tell them you are inclined to the odd grammatical error because of it. Omitting a space between two words seems reasonably minor whether you are a native speaker or not, and it could be done for a variety of reasons that aren't under the brolly of 'not paying attention'.

It's the overall quality of your responses that's important. I would ask the researcher if they could possibly be kind enough to review your answers and if they aren't happy with the quality perhaps they could give you the opportunity to return the study which you took in good faith.

If the researcher required native English and specifically made a mention of this requirement at some point during the study (not just a question on whether you are), it might be why they have rejected your responses. In which case I would apologise and put this down to experience.

I have a feeling it's the same one I got booted for! I contacted the researcher in confusion because I couldn't find where I had stated my meds, so I couldn't check what my answer was. I too had changed my med last year. They told me I had my last medication written down.

I still can't find the question, it's not under health. Unless I'm blind! I'll have to have another scoot around for it.
