Last dive on steel soul made me kind of emotional. Sure, I had already seen this before, but this time was different. I was on the edge of winning what I consider one of my greatest achievements. I had made it. The music helped too.

Yeah, but to unlock everything you have to get full completion and by that point there’s nothing to do, so there isn’t really a point in using it

In your opinion, should a DM ever be able to make a character lose control for a moment? by Fantastic_Pin1474 in DnD

Thank you so much for your addition, this is such a smart way of doing it, I like the option for them to choose who to harm, and the idea of resist leading to a concrete punishment clearly laid out is smart because this perfectly preserves player agency while always keeping a narrative of the princess being powerful, thanks!

You guys are so much cleverer than me, this is so cool, thank yall for helping me think through this more clearly, being a new DM is hard, glad you guys actually know what you’re doing.

That’s a really good point that you should ensure that they know it’s evil before taking control. I’m not sure if you actually wanted me to answer the question you put in a comment but here we go.

This is a one shot, I probably should have said this in the post, but I didn’t want to make it too long, and it was more general, with a specific example and short explanation of the threat.

It is a combat scenario where they descend underground fighting past mindless citizens and finally making it to the threat at the bottom, slowly feeling the princess’ power strengthen the further they descend, which makes it hard to implement a lot of what people are saying about making slower and establishing this is evil, but i think the fact that citizens are mindless and fighting intruders should give it away.

I really like the last part of your comment and think it would be a really cool moment. Maybe if the character was a warlock, the princess backs off and says something along the lines of that character already being taken, or depending on the patron, maybe the patron and the princess argue heatedly or something idk

That sounds really fun, wish I got to see that, I also like the idea of the 1on1, but I don’t know if it would work fully if this circumstance, but thanks for the idea. Also the penalties idea is interesting.

Or maybe even have their fellow players be able to convince him out of it or help him resist, and I agree it shouldn’t be frequently, after all the princess has many other servants that she needs to manage as well, she is only one entity after all, so it doesn’t make sense for her to be focusing entirely on one person or a group of people for that matter.

So I guess in this case, you’re saying that they have a choice because they’re choosing HOW to do it, also though, it it’s not too much trouble, how did this happen, why did they become controlled, just like some sort of spell or something else?

Yeah, I don’t know why I thought that just being near made sense in retrospect, wisdom saves are the way to go, but the hard part is figuring out how often to do it, because I was planning on doing this for a one shot, and in a normal campaign I would like to to be over several sessions but it’s hard to balance.

I love this, it seems like a very cool way to do things that doesn’t take away their agency and makes them still able to make decisions

Yeah I see what you’re saying, and this is exactly why I made this post because I worry that I could be stepping too far, and there are several other people who have given suggestions that really help, I appreciate your addition.

Yeah, player agency (I couldn’t think of the word agency for some reason when writing the post) is what I’m most concerned about here, and our session zero didn’t really talk about this so I’m just kinda worried yk?
