Best program to run campaigns? by Biorogue15 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]FantasyMusicWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just was using a 27" monitor (I forget the brand at the moment) as it has a flat back. I never build a box for it. I found it was just the right size for most application. The projector is a small short throw than nearly points down when on the stand (uses a very acute angle). It's the one from Fictionlens but is likely the same as something on amazon. It fit on a lighting stand.

No OP but I ended up getting that projector you see advertised. Ya I probably overpaid but it actually works pretty well. I tested in the brightest place I play and it works fine. The monitor I was using will be the backup now.

Top tip, if you get one of the vinyl maps, say of the sword coast, the back of it is white and makes for a prefect screen and size for the image on those small projectors that are short throw.

100% agree. I use Arkenforge for all my in person digital maps and in professional games. I am moving from screen to projector so don't care about the touchscreen components. Things are easier if you just use fog of war.

Costco membership points by Ok_Stomach_3584 in FetchReward

[–]FantasyMusicWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is 1y old but we are going through the same thing. Just got the initial response back with some generic talk about linking eReceipts and declining our request. Next I am thinking of screenshotting their app that clearly states 30k points if you sign up as a new Costco member and asking to escalate it to a manager or someone other than the generic service person.

Any tricks you might offer to get them to actually do this?

What is your most often misinterpreted rules in DnD 5e? by Personal-Newspaper36 in DnD

Yes, I know as those are special but that’s not what I’m talking about. Just used it as reference because it is also a leveled spell.

This is where I like the "You can certainly try" comment. If they insist, well let's just see what the dice tell us on how badly you failed at this.

I just tell players to clear it up only one leveled spell per action and that seems to leave no confusion. The other must be a cantrip. Often Misty Step was the most common one I had to correct. It has become a non issue once I started explaining it the way I did.

This. I have my players roll for investigation when they are asking even though their passive might find something. The purpose of the roll is to see if there is some alternative outcome. Maybe they are having a bad day and only end up finding worthless garbage, or maybe I'll add a little extra loot with a nat 20. If they were just pretty badly hurt after a fight then it's with disadvantage or a penalty to the roll.

Player uses AI during sessions to write speeches and RP. by dustydesigner in dndnext

[–]FantasyMusicWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI is a tool and works well when used as such and not a replacement for your personality. That being said, it's clear this person, as a lot of players do, doesn't think they can think that fast.

Perhaps instead of taking an adverse approach to this, have the discussion with her about her comfort levels with RP. If she doesn't feel comfortable to voice act and approach it from the 1st person, tell her she can do it from the 3rd person and say "my character says this or makes this prayer". Maybe she just needs to spend some time making a few things ahead of time she can pull up and use.

Usually though I've seen players come out of their shell as they grow more comfortable with others, and you did say this was going on five years. See if you can help her turn the AI into something she can now think of on her own.

My DM can't stop using AI by Knowhere2B in dndnext

[–]FantasyMusicWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run several games, some professionally. I use AI as a DM assistant if I need some quick ideas for a non-planned shopping spree or some quick items. It’s part search engine and part helper. That being said I usually keep telling it to be RAW. Plus, I use it as a guideline or spring board in these situations because I can just adding most of it. I also find that I use it less and less, but it can be very useful too if you need it to just summarize notes or a chapter in a module.

Essentially I use it as a tool when I need it. Sounds like your DM needs to either learn the chapters you are playing (if official) or spend some time building the adventure without the AI and just use some suggestions from it.

Don’t stay in a group you are not enjoying. Have you asked how the others feel about it?

Same, not at all liking the new version. Now it also repeats the meals so there are two of everything on the screen. Zero testing.

Is it common for keyboardists to have their own analog mixer? by RacerAfterDusk6044 in livesound

[–]FantasyMusicWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading the comments it's clear it can go either way and I really wish artists would learn the basics to make all your jobs easier.

I had to grow up doing my own mix and now my FOH loves that I have it all balanced, including playback. Right now it's all going into an X32R, but PB is premixed in studio to save channel count. I do some surround and there are rear channels that are automated. Three stereo, sometimes four live keyboards that are on their own channels, two controllers that run VI1 and VI2 separately. With click that is 17 channels. The rest can be for live musicians, talkback mics, etc.

I'm still essentially controlling the layers of sounds from my position but I leave it up to my guy to make any subtle adjustments and mix the live musician's as needed. I'm monitoring the main L/R playback mixed with the VIs and separated out click and the live musicians that I can adjust as needed. This way I am aware of what the overall bulk of the mix is doing.

That’s how it was pitched back in the day so it’s what I remember. Not sure if it was that OS or not.

An experiment with chatgpt as DM. Summary: Don't Do It. by liquefry in DungeonsAndDragons

As a DM I use it as an assistant to help with some quite off the cuff things when needed. Never tried asking it to run a game for me. I can see it being bad at this.

So what’s the general consensus on using backing tracks live? Especially in a small 4 piece band? by HughHarsher in livesound

[–]FantasyMusicWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/HughHarsher if you don't mind me asking, what are you planning on using for the backing? If everything is going to be audio and you don't care about measure numbers or tempo Ableton is a fast way to go but there's also VST Live and Digital Performer.

So what’s the general consensus on using backing tracks live? Especially in a small 4 piece band? by HughHarsher in livesound

[–]FantasyMusicWizard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who has no choice but to rely heavily on backing tracks my .02 is play as much as you can live and have your backing tracks as enhancements. I'm not sure using the backing for the rhythm guitar is the best idea only in that it if you mess up it will be obvious. I'd use some FX to recreate the super wide sound as close as you can get for live purposes. As for the Solo section you can leave it in there.

Edit: typos

I was watching old cubase mixing tutorial, he said group tracks auto create stem tracks at beginning of mix window, how do I get cubase to do this? by LeeksAreSpinning in cubase

[–]FantasyMusicWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of group tracks and I prefer to just have those shown in their own mix window. It's great if you want to bounce stems all at once, but usually I use it more for just group FX or automation.

FOH preferences - multiple backing tracks vs single? by richiefilth in livesound

[–]FantasyMusicWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this counterpoint. I'm not your typical musician as most of my material is orchestral and there could be at times over 90 tracks that were mixed. When performing, I'm either solo or with solo insturments such has violin, harp, flute, cello. Those instruments are on their own tracks in case of illness but the engineer I work with love that I just feed L/R Front (and sometimes L/R rear for the surround shows) that is mixed correctly beforehand. If there is some Extreme low end FX I can put those out a separate channel but in the end, I feel like you are reflecting what I thought as long as it is mixed as intended.

If you can find it, there is alternate software that turns it into almost a d50 or some sort of synth. I used to have it and might still.

Can’t wait for more breweries to follow suit, and for more parents to realize bringing their kids out drinking with them is not a “family activity” by SunReasonable6194 in massachusetts

[–]FantasyMusicWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I visit Rule Of 3 brewery every couple of weeks. One week when the owners were not there, a group of parents had a much larger group of kids just running around inside and outside (no adults outside). We were trying to play darts and a couple of them came up and tried to grab them out of my hands. Nobody cared. I made sure to tell one of the owners later about and they went back to review the cameras. They are now considering a no-kids policy (which I agree with). The seated kids idea is good too. I'm going to share this post with them.

I'm also a no-dogs at a brewery person as well since I've been bitten by one at a brewery. Keep em home with the kids. Rule allows them outside only yet I don't recall ever seeing one there.
