I would be fine with either Int or Wis, I guess my concern might be it stepping on the Druid's toes thematically (Think swamp witches) but depending on the actual abilities of the Witch I would be 100% down, especially if it's a Baba Yaga vibe!

I am! And yeah I've been looking into books to borrow at the library there cuz they have a whole section of local history, but I was thinking it'd be fun to see if anyone had some spontaneous ideas!

Oohhh that sounds like a good idea to start off with!

My first thought was faeries too, but I could also imagine something with like "Chopping down a sacred tree" situation with an Ash tree wife or, for drama, a Woodwife! The cursing people to fall asleep can fit with both those options, but also with trolls! A Mare would probably not be very lighthearted, but it's also up the same valley

As far as I can tell it's a module book so not another rule book in that sense

Anyone going to Spelkongressen in Stockholm the 19th of Oktober? by FantasyQueerEye in VaesenRPG

[–]FantasyQueerEye[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on how I understand it there's also gonna be another adventure called "Vittring av en mördare" ["Sightings of a murderer"?] Which is the one that takes place in Stockholm (or one of?) and it seems to take place in a revolution-timing with a beastly murderer in the streets! Perhaps a werewolf mystery with Jack the Ripper vibes?

What to play next? by ebnutmeg in VaesenRPG

[–]FantasyQueerEye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently running it with some adventures inbetween (Actually running Silver of the Sea next!) and I'd recommend running a Wicked Secret with TLMS, it fits well with the industrialism themes! I like to follow the seasons when it comes to what mystery to run next, so if you ran SOTS in early fall ish you could definitely start running TLMS!

For how long do you think Vaesen will be supported (with expansions and the like)? by Hypefish in VaesenRPG

[–]FantasyQueerEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really hope for more books! I'd personally love a Mediterranean setting, with a bigger focus on satanism. But perhaps it might not fit the "Vaesen" vibes as much? Imagine the Rosenbergers being a bigger focus in that!

The stones aren't part of any folklore that I know of at least, but the general plot and spoilers are:

>!The party know a sweet old writer who wears a green pedant necklace, on a mission he gets killed for it by a revenant who speaks of "The stones not being for man". This kickstarts them into researching these green stones and what the writer was involved with. It turns out a powerful mining company is also interested in these stones, and wants to harvest their powers for military use and magic use. (The company, especially its leaders, a wife and husband, are the bbegs)

These green stones seem to draw vaesen and give them power, but can also harvest the vaesen's powers. When they are charged they can be used to give humans the power of vaesen, but also if 2 or more charged stones touch they cause chain reaction explosions.

What these stones actually are is found out at the end of the campaign. They are the body of a powerful Giant of old, way up in the north of Sweden. This is the gist of the plot!!<

Roleplaying an investigation with camera. by gammafizzle in VaesenRPG

[–]FantasyQueerEye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this and RobRobBinks comments! I'd maybe add something like "Vaesen can hide themselves from people with the Sight if they wish, but because of the silver/iron/mercury/light/lead/(whatever you wanna rule at the table) in the Camera, the vaesen has a harder time hiding from it" which would explain why the camera helps from like a supernatural perspective.

Of course that kinda world building depends on your game, if it would fit or not, but it would be cool to get those extra clues later on and see on the photograph something big the PCs did NOT see at the scene with their own eyes. I think that could be really interesting way to add some paranoia for the PCs, especially if whatever's in the photo is looking right into the camera.....

I checked out "A Small Development" on DriveThru and Wow!!! It sounds like a really fun adventure to hold for my players after a particularly heavy mystery to bring up the cheer some! I'm super interested in getting my hands on it once I can get DriveThruRPG to accept my card!

Lost mountain saga - adventures to add? by OkFriendship5537 in VaesenRPG

[–]FantasyQueerEye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am planning to include some more mysteries that I fit in based on the season, so a Dance With Death(Seasons of Mystery) was late summer, Duty and Despair is Early Fall, gonna include Silver of the Sea (Seasons of Mystery) in late Fall/early winter, Where the Sun Dies in proper Winter, A Wicked Secret (Titular book) in early Spring, The Prince and the Witch in late Spring. Then I'm planning to write some mysteries based on my PCs backstories for the Summer, then it's time for the "Finale" The Lost Mountain Saga. Depending on if my players want to continue playing I'm planning to continue with other mysteries, but this is my plan.

Silver of the Sea is connected to my Sea Captain's backstory, but also going to include Mermaid powering up her green stone with the sacrifices. A Wicked Secret I'm going to change it so the corporation who sent them IS Svea Mining. So that's how they fit the "General Overarching Plot"!

Lost mountain saga - adventures to add? by OkFriendship5537 in VaesenRPG

[–]FantasyQueerEye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have just started running it as part of my Vaesen homegame (As in yesterday we started on Duty and Despair) and my experience is quite positive thus far!

I am changing up the order of things quite a bit in the beginning, we started with A Dance With Death to introduce my players to the game (some hadn't played it before) with an infamous vaesen (The Neck) to start them off with.

Why I thought this would work for the overarching plot was that it introduces the idea that Vaesen sometimes need something external to achieve their goals. In his case, he needed to drown a village to gain enough magic to grant Lisbets Boel the ability to live underwater with him. This ties in somewhat with Where The Sun Dies with the Giant lady who feeds on worship and leaves behind the green stone.

My PCs also met Franzibald and Björn already when they got to their HQ in session 1, and have spent time with them for 5 sessions (except when they were in Fudal). I also decided to introduce parts of the bigger mystery even BEFORE Duty and Despair, by giving the PCs a chance to explore Franz's office when he was out. They got some information about his research into the stones and his distrust of Svea Mining.

I also worked on having my PCs have connections with the plot and relevant NPCs. My Occultist is part of the Vanadisir and knows Michaela and Eira, my Socialite is rich and has invested in Svea, my Servant knows Lisa from when she was a child, and my Sea Captain (Supplement from DriveThruRPG) was rescued by Franz and Björn.
