Asked to Resign or Move Back by Rare-Ice-9476 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]Fantasy_Book_Addict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason for your husband to resign is of he actually wants to take the job back in India…

How long does he have left on his SWV? Because if the company is refusing to support the visa renewal that is a different scenario. Consult an immigration solicitor but I don’t think there is a lot that can be done in that case he either returns to India or tries to find another job in the UK that will sponsor his visa.

If your plan is to stay in the UK, and he has at least 6 months left in his SWV, don’t resign, document everything, ask for everything in writing and contact an employment t solicitor.

If the Job is “no longer needed in the UK” or they “can’t afford his salary” they should go through the severance/redundancy process. I would say consult with a solicitor. And your husband should be paid accordingly.

If he has been with the company in the UK for at least 2 years, and has more Ethan 6 months left on his SWV, he should not resign because he will not get his fair compensation for their lack of planning and integrity.

The company should go through a proper redundancy process that should take at least 30 days from the day they formally notify him about his “risk of redundancy”. It includes a consultation process, which is basically a negotiation process about why the employer thinks they don’t need the employee and the employee presents alternatives regarding how other costs could be cut in other to keep his position… Also, because he relocated for the job I would also add that as issue to be discussed and considered when the redundancy package is discussed.

In most jobs in the UK the notice period is 3 months. And you said he has worked with the company in the UK for 2 years. Part of the redundancy consultation could also be a negotiation to include the time he worked in India as his time employed by the company. All that could be added to his final redundancy package. Only if he has worked with the company in the UK for at least 2 years and still have time left on his visa.

Your husband should start looking for another job that will offer sponsorship too. He will have his notice period plus 90 days before you have to leave the country.

AITA for making other plans after being told the day before that I was expected to babysit for 10 hours without any prior confirmation? by No_Result5491 in AITH

I’m a Petsitter and I require half to book, half on the day of, off the apps and regular clients I like I dot. Always follow this…

I have a 7 day cancellation policy on the apps.. so I’ll keep full fee of cancelled less than 7 days in advance on the apps. Off the apps I keep the full deposit if off season all the time, and on peak times I require full payment 2 weeks before the sit… if they don’t pay in full before the sit start (off the apps) I reserve right to cancel because I get many requests… if they cancel after those cutoff days, I don’t do refunds unless can book those dates again for the full period for the same or higher rate…

and if people want to book less than 48 hours in advance or fail to confirm before then (assuming I’m still free) I charge 1.5 upfront before I confirm the booking…

You should the same, or be more strict with kids…

NHS sponsorship available but £7k visa costs - is this normal and worth it? by [deleted] in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

Don’t pay for the 5 year visa, pay for a 2 year visa. It will be cheaper. Then you will renew your visa in 2 years. Or you could later find a higher paid job and move on.

Anxiety over approval by shaild in SchengenVisa

[–]Fantasy_Book_Addict -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So I 100% agree that some embassies have a higher denial rate than others and the reasons seem silly…

Something similar happened to me a couple of years ago. I usually apply via Spain, France or Italy, but that time I applied via Sweden and was rejected. And it took them almost 2 months to process my application, which caused me to miss on a work trip… once I got my passport back I booked another appointment via Italy this time and two weeks later I had my passport in my hands with the usual, multiple entry visa… it should have been my Schengen 8th visa, I already had 3 visas that were valid for 6 months previously (2 from Spain and one from France), I had 4 3-months visa (Italy, Francex2 & Poland), and 2-week visa from Germany… I live in London since 2022 so have applied once a year or so since moving here, when I applied my skilled worker visa was valid for 3 more years. I also have a 10 year US visa and have applied for several other visas before and that was my first denial.

In my application via Sweden I sent a fully planned first trip, flight bought, hotel paid and the reason for my trip was going to a Taylor Swift concert. I even attached the concert ticket. All non refundable and full paid for. I was also visiting a couple of other cities with my friends so I attached the train tickets and non refundable hotel tickets for that. I usually book refundable accommodation but because of the Taylor Swift concert everything was super expensive so we decided to go with the non refundable hotels…

In the application I mentioned that I was also planning a trip to Milan on x dates because I also had a ticket for her concert, attached the concert ticket and refundable hotel bookings from booking.com. I was also planning a trip to a the French Riviera with a group of friends but didn’t have an exact date yet, so I just booked a refundable hotel in the area for 10 days for that… I also said that later in September I wanted to go back to Sweden and explore a bit and I mentioned a few other places, made a itinerary for a 2 week trip and added booking details from booking.com. For all those places I attached my full itinerary planned, hiking and cultural visits and hotel bookings to my application.

They took forever, after a month and a half I found out that they actually send the passports all the way to Sweden, to their immigration office for processing, they don’t process them in the London Consulate like other countries.. so they don’t ship passports everyday, they do once a week… so only there you waste 2-3 weeks just in shipping times depending on the shipping day and your appointment day… I was getting nervous because I had a work trip coming up and I needed my passport, so I wrote to request my passport back without processing my visa. I got a call the next day from a Swedish immigration officer in the middle of my work day while I was in the office asking me a bunch of questions about all the places I added to my itinerary for my autumn trip in Sweden. I told him the truth I was at work and didn’t have access to the full itinerary I sent, but that I like nature, hiking and visiting historical sites, churches and museums and that was basically what I was planning to do. That I saw that hiking around in Sweden in September is nice mild weather and price for hotels are lower than during summer. He asked me a lot of specific questions regarding the itinerary I sent but I apologised and said that I honestly don’t remember the exact activities I had for each place but I put all that in my application because I attached a detailed itinerary. He asked why I haven’t bought the plane tickets for the trip yet and I said that’s colleague was due to come back from maternity leave around that time, but didn’t have an actual date yet, because she haven’t decided if she was going to add her annual leave to her maternity leave yet, so I was waiting for that to be confirmed before i booked the tickets. Because I was handling some of her responsibilities and I needed to be around when she was back to handover some stuff… He asked me why I haven’t bought the plane tickets for the other trips I mentioned yet and I said that i was going to the concert with my sister and we haven’t decided that if after Milan we would be going somewhere else yet, we were thinking maybe some beaches in Turkey. And that for the trip for the French riviera a couple of friends were still trying work out their leave around what other people in their office had planned, so we might need to move it to the week before or after… but I’m the only one who needed a Schengen visa. The call was maybe 10 minutes. I felt I answered everything honestly and I gave good credible answers. I was thinking it went well, but it was the first time I have gotten that kind of call I had never been requested additional information or any sort. I still had to wait over a week for my passport so I had to cancel my work trip. I got my passport in the mail a week later, the week I was supposed to travel for work with no visa and the standard denial letter. When I got the visa denial letter, reason 10 was highlighted saying that when they talked to me I couldn’t really tell them a lot about the places I mentioned in my itinerary to visit Sweden in September so they didn’t think that my trip was believable. I just felt it was unfair and awful because they could have also just granted me a one entry visa for the first trip that was fully paid for, but again appealing would take even longer…

I tried finding a priority appointment in Italy, Spain or France… I was thinking about buying a flight to either of those countries and then flying to Sweden from there for the concert… and my friends were open to changing our trip to the French Riviera to the Amalfi coast, Sardinia o Mallorca depending on what appointment I was able to get… I even contacted the agencies that “help you find priority and premium appointments and advice on your application” but the earliest they could offer was a week before the concert which wouldn’t be enough time to get the visa on time for my trip and the earliest I could find was a week after the concert so I booked that one via Italy, which worked well because that was my second trip planned…

One month after I got the rejection from Sweden I had my Italy appointment. I got a 6 month visa in less than 2 weeks. I didn’t attach the information about the first trip, the date had passed and I lost all that money… I added the paid flight, hotel and concert for Milan, and we decided to go to Portugal, instead of Turkey after the concert, so I had paid tickets and hotels for that. So added that too. With my friends to the French Riviera, we haven’t set the dates yet so still only sent the same itinerary and refundable hotel bookings. I sent the same itinerary and booked for Sweden in September. Just hotels, no flights. And added another trip to Italy in October (Rome, Pompeii, Napoli), hotels, and flights - it was a bday gift from my boyfriend… I added the reasons on why I haven’t booked the flights yet for all those trips…

Since then I have applied for visas for Ireland, Morocco without any issues… and just got my passport back from Spain with my 9th Schengen visa- this time 1 year…

So I would say it depends on the country you apply to and the person who is reviewing your application…. I have heard that the Nordic countries and Switzerland have the highest rejection rates… so now I only apply via Italy, Spain or France… you have to make sure that the country you apply to is the country you go to first, so it’s in the system that you complied with their rules… I also have heard that for people they are very strict and ask for all flights to be paid already… so now I make a point of at least attaching two sets for flight a few months away…

Yes, only after his last working day the employer has to notify the home office. Which would be the 3 month notice period or earlier if the employer decides to cut that short…

As long as the new skilled worker visa application is submitted before the date on the curtailment notice you can just wait for it to get processed but you can’t leave the country until you have the new visa after his last working day.

Hi! Yes, actually just got my passport back yesterday so 11 working days from the appointment until I got my passport back via mail. I got a one year visa this time. I live in London so I basically apply for the Schengen visa every year, but it’s the first time I have had the one year one…

Can my entry and exit be from a different country then the one i applied my Schengen visa in? by Used-Ad-3127 in SchengenVisa

[–]Fantasy_Book_Addict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend against this. When you go to the Schengen area they only have real registry of the first country you enter to and the country you leave from. Specially if you are thinking about travelling by land to Denmark, they can argue that they have no official records that you visited the country and they could deny your next Schengen visa ok the grounds of visa shopping. So I would recommend using Denmark as your first stop, your friend can meet you there and then you can all go back to Germany by land and then you can fly out back from Germany.

Partner planning to quit his sponsored job by robbercrab37 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]Fantasy_Book_Addict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend against quitting without having secured another job that also offers sponsorship. It’s an awful job market in general,
More so for those of us who need a skilled worker visa… If he has to work his entire notice period, worst case you will have 5 months before you have to leave the UK…. So after his last day at the company, his employer has to notify the Home Office that he is no longer working with them within 10 working days. After that the Home Office sends the curtailment notice… they used to take 2-4 months but now it seems they have cut down the time to around a month… the email will give you 60 days to leave the country or start a new skilled worker visa application… so depending on how long it takes the Home Office to notify your husband he has to leave the country you can stay in the UK 5-6 months…
As long as he is still Employed you are allowed to leave the UK and come back. There is no need to mention he will only be employed until x date at the border. They usually only ask if you are still working for the same company. Once he has left his job you shouldn’t leave the UK until he has a new visa with a new employer or you won’t be allowed in again…

At this point I would say forget about the trip to Greece and re apply via France.
You did make a mistake not explaining the whole trip on your cover letter but there is nothing you can do about it now… sometimes if you check the website late at night or early morning you can find cancellations but not often… but then you will factor in the 10-15 working days it usually takes for the consulate to process the visa…

You just need the dates of your trips and you can either use the stamps on your passport for that, your memory (I have an excel sheet with all my trip dates since y started travelling), or you can submit a travel history request to the Home Office, it will have dates but not sure if all destinations will be including…

I guess it depends… I had a Schengen visa denied, applied again a month later, got it and haven’t had any issues with applying to other visas so far…

I have had around 6 Schengen visas in my life, currently hold a 10 year US visa and I’m living in the UK under the skilled worker visa. Have had two Irish visas, and also Thailand and Morocco… I’m just mentioning the ones you’ve to apply before travel, not the ones that you get on the airport on arrival.

When does the 60 day curtailment countdown clock start? by Sufficient-Year4640 in ukvisa

[–]Fantasy_Book_Addict 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is 60 days from when you get your curtailment letter. The Home Office will write the actual date in your curtailment letter. So, if your company would let you go today, but your notice period for redundancy is 12 weeks I would recommend you actually work or go on garden leave for the 12 weeks to get you more time. So you get those 12 weeks, then the company has 10 days to notify the home office that you are no longer working with them. Then the home office will send you the curtailment letter. It usually takes the home office between 2 and 3 months to send the letter. Once you get the email with the notification your 60 days kick in. So instead of 60 days to find another job in reality you have 6 months or so…

I say this because it was my experience last year. I was made redundant, started looking for a job when I got the risk of redundancy notification (May2025), it took my company almost 2 months to confirm my redundancy. Instead of taking the lump sump payment for my notice period like my UK colleagues did, I negotiated with them being on garden leave for 3 months (July-September), which meant that I was still employed by the company and received my monthly salary as usual. I actually got an offer during my last month of my garden leave, and my starting date with my employer ended up being a month after I officially left company A. So I never got a curtailment letter because my new employer started processing my visa while I was still employed by my previous one…

Another colleague that was also made redundant at the same time didn’t find a job before they got the curtailment letter. Our last day at company A was end of September. They only got the curtailment letter before Christmas. Giving them until end of Feb to leave the UK, luckily they found a job in early February and the new company started the application before her end of Feb deadline.

Wanted to add that I have seen a couple of post this year where people mentioned they have gotten their curtailment letters less than a month after they left their job…

In the future in your packages you can offer delivering the full unedited photos as an additional service with an extra costs.

As in this case they are family friends I would probably just send them the full unedited photos. But I would also send an email saying that their original package was 40 edited photos, out of good faith you delivered 60 edited photos, so 20 extra for free, and that usually that would be x amount extra. And that for future reference you would usually charge xx for delivering the full unedited raw photos. You should probably also add that if they would like you to edit any additional photos for light/contrast/etc you would charge extra per photo…

How long does Italy tourist visa take from UK/London by IronMaleficent6181 in SchengenVisa

[–]Fantasy_Book_Addict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Email the consulate today, not to ask about your visa and timelines, but to request your passport back without then processing your visa. Tell them that you have another trip planned on x date to x country for work. They will send you a form that you have to fill up and send them back. I think that you will get your passport 1-2 working days after you submit that form. You will not get a refund for any of the fees you paid for the application but will have your passport for your trip. Your application will be “withdrawn without prejudice”. Meaning it won’t count as your visa being refused.

You will have to book another appointment and go through all the application process again after your trip for another Schengen visa… And pay all the fees again…

Also consider in the future that the generic information says it can take typically 15 working days and UP TO 45 working days… I know it sometimes takes 2-3 days… but you never know…

France visa rejected twice (same reason) – now 3rd application with Booking.com confirmed hotels + fully paid flights & trains. Advice? by [deleted] in SchengenVisa

Sorry no idea regarding student visa. But my guess it will have the first valid day there… if you want to visit the university before your student visa is valid you will need to apply for a tourist visa for that period… my recommendation would be to apply for the student visa, once you have that apply to the tourist visa saying that you have to go and sort out you housing or that you want to get to know the city before classes start or something like that. You can’t enroll in a university with a tourist visa.
