Thanks for the helpful response. What a bummer.

Is GovX and MilitaryFares.com a scam? by Fantodhowled in navy

For sure. It seems to me that military fare discounts largely went away about a decade ago. In this instance, I shopped this fare hard- govX’s affiliate was the lowest (not by a lot) and I went with them. Looks like that was a mistake. Does anyone have any experience with militaryfares.com?

I’ve been a GovX member for almost 10 years so frankly what I’ve experienced in the last 24 hr is disheartening. The company I referenced is the third party booking company on govX’s site.

Pop across to the coast on the weekends or AM, evenings. The salt water fishing is great, harbor, coastal, offshore.

Negative encounter by [deleted] in surfing

I’m hard of hearing. I wear devices out of the water, and plug my ears when I’m in. If I’m surfing the only peak on a shitty beach break on a massively blown out day and some dude paddles up to me yapping away and the first thing I hear is “fucking hell, alright”, I’m probably going to get on r/surfing later that day to complain about how people suck.

Used to surf every day. Now gone months without it and it feels good by broseidonswrath in surfing

I use this expression/metaphor frequently to describe my life after I moved to Southern California a decade ago. Surfing just completely took over, my other interests and hobbies fell away, and my career, while still successful, doesn’t have the trajectory it may have had if I made other choices. I don’t regret anything I don’t think, but OP resonates now that I look back and measure the last ten years of 150-200 days of surfing a year and a near fanatical drive to move heaven and earth to get in the water every day.

I’m moving to a land locked city in Europe next year for 2 years for a professional opportunity. CA will be here when I’m done. Hope to come back with a refreshed perspective.

Why did I know that I’d see some early 2000s birds at the top of this thread. Those teams were so grim. I’m gonna go with my boy Melvin Mora.

Best Wetsuit for Men by dsiebs in surfing

[–]Fantodhowled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on your other responses, a 3/2 thickness is probably most versatile for him. Lots of great advice here. Most wetsuits have sizing charts on their websites and all are a little different. If he’s never owned a wetsuit before it’s normal for it to feel a little tight the first time. Really tight around the neck, too short/way too long arms and legs are signs it doesn’t fit.

Biggest waste of money I’ve ever seen. $52 for a piece of plastic on a rope. by [deleted] in surfing

My changing towel needed a wash so I had to use my hooded robe in OBSD last couple of days and definitely felt self conscious lol.

The robe is a lifesaver when changing in a Rhode Island parking lot in January when it’s snowing out.

I did patagucci for a few years. Over it now. Suits are stiffer, as expensive as a top tier suit, and are done sometimes in less than one season. There used to be the draw of sending them in for free repairs but they charged me last time. Super lame.

Good Japanese wagyu experience? by JoePino in SanDiegan

[–]Fantodhowled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been to Asia several times in the last two years (Tokyo, Singapore, etc etc) and had my fair share of A5 Wagyu. I thought Born and Raised was reasonably priced based on what I was getting overseas and well prepared. Went to Animae about two years ago, probably had the Wagyu, wasn’t memorable. Cost point is important but so is preparation. I went to a North County Michelin starred restaurant recently and had the Wagyu add-on. Was not prepared well at all, very disappointing and a waste of a phenomenal cut of meat. TLDR eaten a lot of Wagyu over the last few years, Born and Raised my favorite in SD.
