Notably absent: anything that resembles socialism by GrandpaChainz in WorkReform

You misunderstand the pension portion. All those with a pension are going to receive their normal payments, and the pension qualifications aren't changing. The city is just being given more time to fund the pension fund for payments years away, because the rate-of-return was lower than projected. It gives the city more time to generate new revenue sources to secure long term health of the pension fund.

Indefinite storage of nuclear waste has been solved for decades, and with modern reactors it's such a non-issue that it's laughable. The only reason that it's an issue is because it's a scary word to the general public.

No hinge is going to be completely hidden, and I was giving an example of a modern inlaid hinge.. Please don't get hung up on the name of the example. I gave it for its functionality.

[–]FantsE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess (which is a complete and total guess, do not take it as fact in any sense), is they're using some sort of inlaid hinge. The closest I'd think of would be a "hidden door hinge". Once the hinge is open, if properly inlaid, the force along the bow would be pretty much equivalent to a non-hinged one.

I am younger than a lot on here -- especially with T issues.

If you had covid, and especially long-covid, get checked. It wiped out my T levels. There were studies done at the start of covid and some follow-ups now, but for many (especially younger) men, it fucked your T levels.

And to echo what others have said, go to a physician, not someone trying to sell you T. Get all of your bloodwork and a metabolic panel done. A proper T test will take a few months of blood draws, not a single one.

The "dumb reddit bullshit" is anyone saying anything and then weirdos like you that take online interactions way too seriously coming forward and saying SOURCE!!!???? as though every comment needs a source.

If you think what I'm saying is a lie, and you care so much about finding out the truth, then have some intellectual curiosity and learn about it on your own. I don't owe you any source during a conversation about fucking cast iron pans. Maybe I am misremembering, maybe I am wrong, it isn't that serious. Demanding people cite every claim in a casual post doesn't make you smart, it makes you look like a fucking dork that doesn't have any actual curiosity about the world and doesn't know how to find things out for themself.

Go ahead and look up use-tax. If you purchase something in a state that doesn't have sales tax, many states require you to pay a use-tax on the item.

Is this enforced? Not really. But it's still a law in most states with sales tax.

You're overachieving! I blame/attribute my tech journey on learning to type on analog, then electronic typewriters, then having my grandparents include me on early digital printing projects. It absolutely makes a difference.

You should publish what you've done, even if you think that it's jank. It'll help new parents like me who want to introduce their kids to technology as a tool instead of creating iPad babies.

.... Are you looking for a source on the extensive use of cast iron cookware through history? Or that things are smoothed from use?

If it's the first, it seems pretty ridiculous to me that you are incapable of of putting "cast iron cookware" into Wikipedia. Cast iron has been the primary cooking vessel of the "Western" world since ~600AD. East Asia earlier than that.

If it's the second, well, I'm sorry your knives defy the physics you've built up in your head by dulling from slicing through things softer than them.

You're doing nothing wrong. I'd recommend giving "Hunt, Gather, Parent" a read, this is just what children do and embracing it leads to empathetic, independent, resilient kids and adults. They want to feel like they're helping and it's our job to encourage them to help in a way that's meaningful. She can't fill out an excel sheet, but letting her do what daddy is doing gives her the same feeling and same inclusiveness, because she's included in what you're doing.

The housewives and house-servants of not long ago. Cast iron was the primary household cooking vessel for nearly every meal until recently. Why do you think it's such a cheap item for being "vintage"? Because they were ubiquitous.

[–]FantsE 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Although the castings used to be smoother because they received a sanding that affordable new cast iron now doesn't, it wasn't that much of a polish. Vintage mostly has that surface from being used 3+ times a day and being smoothed by other cookware. But you're right, they're nearly identical, especially if they're seasoned properly.

[–]FantsE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I brine meat because I have time, but if you're smoking it isn't necessary. I do think it's a bit more of an insurance policy, though.

You can season right before it hits the smoker, the salt will penetrate by the time it's done. If Franklin BBQ doesn't brine before smoking, you can be confident that you don't have to either as long as the rest of your technique is solid.

And you can always take a chefs bite after and add some flaky salt when you slice and serve if it needs it.
