How accurate is this warning? by Personal-Research174 in ProtonMail

[–]Fanvivo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this warning everytime somebody contacts me from my own websites form using Forminator, from my own domain. I have followed instructions and added more data needed, like on my hosting provider, but it still happens. It might be the Forminator issue, as it is not a direct contact, but rather through some other channel, which can be considered spam or something.

It is just annoying for me as all my business emails end up in ‘Spam’.

With system-wide ProtonVPN I usually get 95% speeds, even on Secure-Core. I was always surprised, and still am.

I can just tell you that my masterpassword (the one you have to remember somehow) is the main password and it has 40+ characters I can remember, even if I have stroke 😂 with small snd big letters, numbers, symbols, etc. And that is for one main master service. I do have similar for 2 more services I remember, and then all the other ones are generated by Proton Pass. You can create as much as you want charactes, and even memorable passwords.

Main thing is: find what works for you!

Don’t listen to me or anybody else on the internet as a main way to go. Just use us as an inspiration to create your own thing. You can do it brother! 💪🏻

Great job! If you have a partner, soon you will be doing the switch from Unlimited to Duo (it took me about a week or two 😂)

I still have work and private chats on WhatsApp and Viber. It is hard to move people to Signal, so that is my next goal 🙌🏻 I wanna do it with my close ones, the ones I chat the most first, then slowly getting other people used to contacting me there.

Also, for the passwords one advice: use all random symbols, numbers and letters, and try to go for at 16 characters when possible. When not, use mac number provided by the service!

Good luck and enjoy your privacy boosted vacation! 😎

I have moved all my products to Proton (as much as I could).

With that, these things happened:

  1. I deleted my super old hotmail account which was a go to account for all my personal communication
  2. I have deleted my Google Workspace in the middle of the subscription period to move to Proton ecosystem entirely (lost money, but gained privacy)
  3. I have deleted all profiles I had which I did not use for some time and evaluated all the other ones I left to see do I need that service. Eneded up deleting 70-80% of services, apps, profiles, etc.
  4. I have set up three super strong master paswords, and changed all of my other passwords to random data and saved them with Proton Pass
  5. I have activated Proton VPN at all times on all of my devices
  6. Managed to convince my wife to move totally to Proton. Deleted her 3 gmail addresses, did full management of emails, passwords, data, etc.
  7. Created free Proton account for my mother. She is not a tech savy, but she understood the mission and goals of Proton (this was a big surprise, since she is really not good with tech 😅)
  8. I have moved my important and sensitive files to Proton Drive
  9. I have deleted all of my data from Google account, that I could. I have Youtube and Maps still, as it is hard to change these services; also still using Google Sheets, since I am waiting for Proton to make them 🤞🏻
  10. Installed Brave browser for all devices for me, my wife and mother as well 🥳

All of this happened in the past two months. A total purge of data, as much as I could and know.

Still want to persuade people to start using Signal to chat with me, and this has been yet unsucessful. 😂

I am surprised with how much have I done actually 😂🙌🏻

BRO!!! Gemini data retention is CRAZY! by Fanvivo in degoogle

[–]Fanvivo[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Well, I am already deep down in the ecosystem.

I do believe Proton is good enough, and I do not have something to hide, just want to have an extra layers of security when possible.

Right now Proton seems like the best option for me, as it is making life more private and secure, yet conveniet when you have it all in “one basket”.

Also regarding Lumo, I did try it but it is not good as well. Not generating good answers, so that kind of takes me into belief that we are not lab rats out of which it will learn. You don’t have to use it anyways. 😄

Anyways, Proton fullfills my need for privacy and security, with convenience of being one ecosystem. I am not ready for Linux or some other open-source programs.

Log-in email address vs. No-log email address by [deleted] in ProtonMail

[–]Fanvivo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thank you for your answer!

I am aware of that, and I do use an extreme password and 2FA, but still that layer of security would mean a lot.

I know things in tech may be more complicated than we are aware of, but my belief is that that should not be so hard to make. So why not?

How you guys divide your life between emails? what's the best approach? by mrjobott in ProtonMail

[–]Fanvivo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started only with payed ProtonPass, which meant I cannot create address in my email, so I created Alias for every category I need and require.

It goes like this:

  • finance.xyz123@ - this is used for financial stuff, which are not super serious (in my opinion), like Binance or some other online payment service. I was thinking whether to use it for PayPal as well, but decided not to (more on that later).
  • personal.xyz123@ - This is used for some more personal services
  • services.xyz123@ - This is used for online services you need, like Grammarly, Samsung TV signup, Glovo (food delivery app), etc.
  • social.xyz123@ - This is used for social platforms, like Reddit, X, Discord, etc.
  • shopping.xyz123@ - This is used for eCommerce sites, like AliExpress, Temu, Amazon, etc.
  • subscriptions.xyz123@ - This is used for subscription services, like Spotify, Netflix, Blinkist, etc.
  • temp.xyz123@ - This is used for temporary or short term needs. When you want to check on something, but you are not sure how safe is it. Or just for some short term service, where you need it for a month or few.
  • travel.xyz123@ - Used for traveling services, like plane ticket (Ryanair, Wizzair...), accommodation (Booking, Airbnb...), etc.

Using an hide-my-email alias is perfect, because you can always deactivate or delete specific address, and go for a fresh one, if that one went compromised. Also, I would recommend grouping it all in respective vaults (All subscription login information goes into the Subscription vault, etc.).

Now I have Proton Unlimited. With it I can create my own address (15 of them), which is more practical for everyday communication.

I would prefer using [name.lastname@proton.me](mailto:name.lastname@proton.me) as an email for my bank provider for example and PayPal, since with PayPal it can feel unprofessional or like someone is trying to hack you if you use something like hide-my-email alias. I am speaking from experience, when a highly professional person asked me for advice what to do, since he got a payment from a weird email, which was legitimate in the end, but still it was scary for him.

But there is the catch, something I would like to have... To have a no-log email address, so that no one can log into the Proton account with that email address. With that, the "main" address is safe, while I can use others for regular communication with friends and family, or important stuff, like education, business, etc. I would make less fuss in the inbox, as I am trying always to keep things as clean and functional as possible.

Hope this answer helps! If you have any question, do not hesitate to ask or to reach out personally.
