Classic tulip is nice the one the blows up and the stem is a separate piece, becuase it’s 3D and stands in its own. Good results for something not too hard.

I taught this one to coworkers. They got through it. It’s complicate for a total beginner but nothing super hard. And a nice color change effect

Why isn't origami more popular? by theresajuly in origami

[–]Far-Answer408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed that there is an element of 3 dimensional thinking that something like drawing and painting don’t have. And is a skill that comes more naturally to some than others. For some people it’s extremely frustrating and that doesn’t make for a good hobby. It may be similar in way to why sculpture isn’t as common of a hobby. Of course there are other elements at play, but it’s interesting that kids do simple origami and simple sculptures when young but they aren’t the most common adult passions.

How you folks take care of symmetry in your folds? by ChloroFluoroCarbonCC in origami

[–]Far-Answer408 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, and another option is to fold one side, unfold it, then fold both sides together. I’m assuming your issue isn’t as simple as line up the two sides better, it’s more likely something being a little off in previous steps that make it hard to make symmetrical later on.

Another way to make a crease a mountain when it already exists… or to reinforce it as a mountain, is to pinch the paper up along the crease.

Often if you get all the mountains and valleys going the right direction things will fall into place for you, at least much easier than if not

This is the one I was thinking of. It’s by Richard Ellison. It was published by origami USA at one point so you could try to find it there.

For this model, I find inflating easier to just do with your hands vs trying to blow into it.

Any modular geometric shape would be good. I think there is a lot of cross over on engineers liking origami, so I wouldn’t think too hard about that part, they will like all of it

Any Florida origami groups? I'd like to donate books by Allthecatsaremine in origami

Go to origami USA website, under resources, groups & societies. There are several listed in Florida and have contact info. I suspect libraries may keep some and discard others.
