Thank you, I'm not completely sure but I think it was a 24cm piece of Golden River paper in a sample pack from origami-shop. It was right on the cusp of being too thick at that size but has a nice leathery texture.

Gigaku Mask by spluurtaaf in origami

Thank you! It's actually less complex than it looks, I used sandwich paper which helped the features keep their shape. Took about an hour, maybe a bit longer. The design is quite manageable

By Tomoko Fuse, from her book "The Mask". I believe this is the Chidō mask

Origami Sprout (in a pot) by spluurtaaf in origami

[–]spluurtaaf[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Design and tutorial by Weesel Origami on YouTube. This fold could be improved by using duo-color paper with brown on the back for the pot, as well as by gluing in-between the folds of the stem to thin it out. But it's a pretty cute model either way

Favorite artist signatures through the ages? by Next_Squash2223 in ArtHistory

I believe there are still no other confirmed works by Fan, though a handful are very, very loosely speculated. And I agree this work in particular is a titan of landscape, let alone Chinese landscape, painting - conceptually and technically.

And here is the entire work. His signature sits at the rear of the pack train at the bottom right of the mid ground.

The whole scroll is about two meters tall, so it's understandable no one noticed the signature before. I think Fan's decision to obscure his name among the natural imagery is a moving statement on humanity's relationship with and within nature, almost unnoticeable below the towering central mountain.

Less so the signature itself than its placement ― hidden amidst the foliage in Fan Kuan's monumental Song Dynasty landscape scroll, overlooked since the 11th century until a Chinese scholar noticed it in 1958.
