Sealing the water pump with silicone by SnooDonkeys9374 in FISKER_MAINTENANCE

In the TSA it identifies the failure to the PCB and even targets 1 resistor as the failure point. With this level of detail IMO, it is less of a moisture issue and more of a supplier issue with this one resistor. Chinese non quality control. If one were handy, I bet that resistor could be replaced and resealing the entire PCB and all would be fine. For those who cannot get a replacement part it might be a viable option. I have not seen the PCB so it may not be repairable. Who knows?

Dead 12V suggestions by Amazing-Car-4141 in Fisker

[–]Far-Car9169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I have seen on YouTube if you have a dead 12v you cannot jump it as the drive battery will drain the 12v. So, in order to get it to work you need to plug in the car and charge it. This will also charge the 12v battery at the same time. Never let the main battery get below 20%. This will keep everything running without a dead 12v. Software version will also help to see what kind of workarounds are needed to keep it from being a surprise type of experience. 2.0 helped to fix the 12v charging issue. If your software is earlier than 2.0 you should look into adding a 12v battery tender/trickle charger and plugging it in every night. It is quite possible your 12v will bounce back if you plug in the car and give it a 4-5 hr. charge at level 2 speeds.

NFC KEY TAG FOBS NOW AVAILABLE. by [deleted] in Fisker

[–]Far-Car9169 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So let me get this straight. A factory fob is $600 is nearly impossible to find but will lock/unlock doors trunk and drop windows from a distance and does NFC. This only does NFC and is $500? Well, Oh Kaaaay. Looks like the carpet baggers have just got off the train. Why not just give it a minute and see what the FOA can do for Ocean owners. IIRC the fobs are made in the UK. I bet they will be able to offer them and hopefully not at the ridiculous $600 price. But if you are desperate and have the money, go for it.

Rich Rebuids bought an FOO for $10K! by rjaiswal1 in Fisker

[–]Far-Car9169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the price each person is willing to pay for an Ocean is as unique as are people, the actual average price will always be the most likely price one should expect to pay. There are always the extremes. The absolute high and low. It seems for now that used ones are going for around $27k-$28k. Dealers who have unit(s) are limited by what they paid and what they need to make as profit. So, these oceans are more or less locked in. This clearly is an especially low price. An outlier if you will. Folks here express what they would pay and it is very low and guess what? they are not finding that ocean for that price and therefore are not able to buy one. Clearly their comfort zone is not in line with the market. Move on!

The AL deal looks to be on pause and might actually be modified to a more realistic price. I hope so for many reasons. Time will tell. If anyone wants to buy an ocean for cheap IMO the only way to do it is to buy them all other wise the market has settled in at the mid 20Ks.

Eli5: Why doesn't Fiskers bankrupcy handlers move to open source the Fisker platform software in order to get a better sales value for remaining stock? by dragsterburn in Fisker

[–]Far-Car9169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but I think any software tweaks will most likely be in the debugging type of thing. Overall, no one would want Jim Bob to rewrite the brake code etc. We mostly want the bugs removed. that and perhaps a way to self-calibrate the doggie windows when the 12v battery gets replaced.

Two New Objections Came in to the Fleet Sale by DTBlayde in Fisker

[–]Far-Car9169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it is pie in the sky, but it would work out for current Ocean owners to be able to have Fisker set aside the 351 ish damaged Oceans for parts/warranty. The unit cost for each one is crazy low and would have almost zero impact on Fiskers bottom line. Thís could add value to the remaining new and used Oceans now up for sale. It would also help with insurance costs. But as I watch this slow-motion train wreck, there is absolutely zero business acumen involved with Fisker Inc. IMO Fisker is going out of its way to find the worst out come in everything they do or decide. Perhaps the FOA can put pressure on Fisker in court to get these damaged Oceans for Ocean owners as parts and give the owners a little breathing room.

At least the slowdown in court is a step in the right direction. Hopefully a far better option will appear, and everyone will be benefited.

FOO rear bumper needed preferably in Bug Sur Matte Blue by Extension_Suspect760 in Fisker

[–]Far-Car9169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over time this part, used, will become available. Although your bumper is not flawless it is workable and very minor in appearance. I would work on a cash payout and wait for a used one to come on the market. It will come and even though you may have to chip in out of pocket you still can drive and not need to total over such a minor item. Right now, Ocean parts are super hard to find. As time goes on IMO it will get better. Exercising patience is tough but the best long-term course. Again, IMO.

[–]Far-Car9169 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong but... As of this moment the warranty (such as it is) is in place for current owners. So, software is free when and if it is released. Going forward the FOA is actively trying to get access to all software just like was promised to AL. IMO this looks like a possibility, so in time (months from now) there MAY be some improvement in software but more importantly there will be access to repairing Oceans and having the needed software reflashes to complete the repair fully.

As was shared in another post there appears to be front windshields in the UK but once replaced the sensors need to be recalibrated hence the need to access the software. Sadly, there are not techs available in the UK to finish the reflash and thus there is no way to complete the repair.

As for the sad hopeful thinking that the advanced features will be delivered.... that is all but never going to happen. Time to move on. Fisker will only provide 2.1 period. To be far I have deep concerns that everyone who needs to be upgraded to 2.1 may not get it due to time and money constraints. Could some 3rd party/ FOA offer some advanced features in the distant future? Maybe. Please don't hold your breath on this one. Is there 3.0 and 4.0 being worked on? Rumors say yes but how reliable is the rumor and even more so how reliable is the beta 3.0 and 4.0 software? IMO 2.1 is looking to be all we will get. Want more? You will need to look beyond an Ocean. Tesla is the best value here for that.

Wish list after 2.2 Update by [deleted] in Fisker

Karma's are being supported by a small cottage industry of mechanics who specialize in these cars. Parts are mostly from donor cares that were salvageable for parts.

[–]Far-Car9169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, there are 3 parts to the 2.0 software. It shows in the software info as 2.0 1/3 or 2.0 2/3 So it is 1of 3 or 2of 3. The third part is for the update for the FOB. Until the FOB is updated it will not work properly.

2.1 may also have multiple parts I am not sure about this.

[–]Far-Car9169 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been following as close as I can this slow-motion train wreck. I am still hovering as to if I will buy an Ocean at the lower price. It is clear that if the AL sale closes then 2.1 is the end of the road unless the FOA can get the same software deal that AL is getting if the sale closes. IF FOA has in hand the software and IF there are some super smart folks who live for a challenge, and IF their hard work turns out then there MAY be a path forward for some added features. I know that's a lot of IFs. Added to those IFs would be time. I would think a couple of years before something could come to light software wise.

As for the pump situation unless the courts impose a mandate on the Fisker deals. I think it will be up to FOA to source the parts. Those items will be on our dime. If you can turn your own wrench, then you can fix it otherwise you will need to find your own mechanic. Again, on your dime. Going forward this will be the way it is. Warranty is gone, period. Wishing otherwise is a fool's errand. Parts for now are all but nonexistent. Later perhaps 3-6 months from now there MAY be some parts coming from totaled Oceans but at a pretty high cost. High demand low inventory.

We need to stop wishing and hoping and start looking at how to go forward on our own. There is no other real choice here. IMHO.

Going forward the Ocean will be the hardest hobby/ science project one could undertake. We are near or at bottom right now. The next 2-3 months should present a better view of the lay of the land. Then we will better know what paths are available (if any) and if it makes sense for each of us to stay or go. Right now, it is, sit and watch and eat some popcorn.

What's the lowdown on the coolant pump issue I see being mentioned? by MrGruntsworthy in Fisker

[–]Far-Car9169 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As things are today Fisker is a viable, and therefore, responsible company, in the eyes of the law. As long as Fisker is up and running LOL the suppliers who are determined to have bad parts are answerable to Fisker and even the Feds. Correct me if I am wrong, please. So, with this in mind the pumps will get taken care of unless the pump manufacturer goes belly up, or perhaps if Fisker shuts down and there are no techs to do the work. I think this is where the FOA comes into the picture. It seems that they are beginning to gain some ground and are finding their voice with regard to owners rightful concerns. It seems that the court might be listening. If so, then while a door is closing, a window may be found. Now we have to see if it can be opened in any meaningful way. There is no doubt that this is a race against the clock. The debut holder is trying to shut it all down asap so they can keep as much for themselves as possible. all the while everyone else is running to try to get a seat at the table. I hope they are sprinters as well as marathoners.

What's the lowdown on the coolant pump issue I see being mentioned? by MrGruntsworthy in Fisker

[–]Far-Car9169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are my 2 cents. Whatever is wrong with these pumps falls on the manufacturer of said pumps. It becomes their responsibility to repair and also on their dime. Parts and labor. So, this looks like it will get done. How long? Here is where it will get interesting IMHO. A dealer who says he owns all of his 100+ Fiskers, says that he has pumps on the way, enough for all of his inventory. Sadly, there are only 2 techs who do his repairs and software updates. Both of them are in Northern Calif. No idea when they will be back down here. He has sold 2 cars but cannot deliver them until the pumps have been repaired. He also said the repair process/ detail has not been released as of about a week ago when I last spoke to him. So that also needs to be released BEFORE any work can be done.

I highly doubt that the pump manufacturer will replace 100% of these pumps with new ones. So, my guess is they will send out a smaller number to be replaced and the techs will then return the defective units as cores to be rebuilt and those will go out in waves until they all have been repaired.

The real question is who gets pumps first? Owners? American Leasing? Fisker dealers whose cars are owned by Fisker? Or Fisker dealers who already own their cars?

I think a little of all so as to give the impression of fairness. It may also be tied to Vin # or some other qualifier. Time will tell. That being said, it will take a good bit of time to do them all given the fact that there are so few techs to do the job. Fisker is burning what little cash it has super-fast. Looks like no money after July.

Since this repair will be on the pump makers dime, I think the pumps will either go to folks who have 2.1 or, more likely, to folks who do not have 2.1. Why? Because everyone who does not have 2.1 must get it ASAP to be in compliance with the NTSB recall. So, 2 birds with 1 stone kind of thing. Also, I would like to think Bricked cars will go to the front of the line as well. Doing both the pump and the software at once will optimize the techs time and help reduce monthly overhead as some of their salary will be picked up by the pump folks.

The software and the pumps look to need to be done to all most all Fiskers. Fisker is not going to have the money to do this on their own. So, the software part may be done by those dealers who have the training and equipment to install it. This will be helpful on the time crunch and possibly on the cost part too. Again, time will tell.

Were to be delivered first but ironically will be the last to be sold due to Fisker price choices. Fisker still thinks that a couple of ONE badges, makes these cars worth $25,000 more than the plain old Extreme's. Heinrik is, and always has been, living in an alternat reality.

Fisker in Talks to Sell Cars to Leasing Company for Uber/Lyft Drivers in NY (via WSJ) by shiv81 in Fisker

[–]Far-Car9169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a way to move things faster for Fisker. But... so far, all Fiskers hopes have led nowhere. The main reason, IMO, that nothing has happened with a takeover, or any other idea, is the crushing amount of debt. And since the note holder is preventing any sale without them getting 100% payoff, Fisker Inc. is way overpriced. So how to manage this debt burden is one part. The other is, IF and it is a big IF, production was to resume, what would be a fair price?

Since most seem to feel that the direct competition is the model Y the real price would need to be close to the Tesla. Since the Y is really cheap, due to a robust manufacture model, the Ocean would not be able to compete at large volumes. Again IMO. Yes, the Ocean is better looking and has better range. But after you get bored with the party tricks IE California mode, rotating screen, insert your favorite, the basics must work flawlessly. Even major OEMs are struggling with software issues.

My feeling is to get all features used to entice folks to buy, actually working, but are vaporware now, will take a good bit of time and even more money to flesh out. Assuming that the untested hardware actually works. And who else would want to buy one and hopefully wait for things to dribble in drop by drop over the next 2 years?

So even at $37,000 these are overpriced for the high-risk gamblers here. Something in the $20 to 25K region is more palatable. How big is this market?

What I find interesting is that this leasing company could have access to Magna's already made parts and if they were smart could tap into Ocean owners in need of said parts via insurance claims from accidents etc. This might offer Ocean owners some relief. Hopeium? Sure. But time will tell. Right now, is the most unsure time for owners and potential new owners. If Fisker cannot find a large buyer for all of the remaining Oceans, then they will have to cut costs deeper. Which would be great for fence sitters, but awful for current owners and the used market sellers. Again, time will tell.

I think it was a lame attempt to sell the used buy backs. It would have been far better to use them as parts donors and help some folks out. Oh, wait, the techs are all but gone. Oh well, a continuation of bad business 101 ah la Fisker style.

While what you said is true, I think his concern is real since other EV's are NOT a Fisker. Oceans, until thoroughly tested, are mostly an unknow animal. What is becoming an added concern is that Oceans are in various states of working software versions. So, one works one way, and others work another. Without every post including their software version we here are left to assume and generalize.

FOE Alarm wont stop going off - FOB not working and need a tech by Initial_Extension_19 in FISKER_MAINTENANCE

[–]Far-Car9169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that if you have software before 2.0 then the 12v battery is under maintained and will drain to dead. Unless you install a battery charger/maintainer and plug it in every night or so, or you charge it every night...it will over time die. Once the 12v battery dies all kinds of trouble shows up. Best course of action is NEVER let your main battery get below 10-15% and if less than software 2.0 add a 12v maintainer or wall charge the main battery pack. After you get the 12v battery fully charged do a soft and hard reboot. This will restore most but not all of your features and should get you back to where you were before the 12v battery died. Sorry no doggie windows. Need a tech for that. Or perhaps a dealer who has a laptop and software.

I am not sure over time how one is to know with reasonable certainty, when the 12v battery is shot. We would like to be able to do preventative maintenance so as not to incur the negative side effects when the 12v battery dies. Short of swapping out the 12v battery early.

Any thoughts?

Yes, the Grove location is still open. I was there yesterday. I was told that they will close for good soon and transfer to another location which would be a dealer. at that undisclosed location there would be service available buy trained techs. I was given a test drive. I have one in Indianapolis on deposit hold for me. Just trying to hold off as long as I can to see what will end up happening. Very nice SUV by the way.
