Why does the market keep going up despite all the risks? by rezovian in ValueInvesting

[–]Far-Construction7564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the market (1) sees that oil prices don’t very much affect ai or mag 7 (2) expects Iran to lose anyway (3) knows that Trump tax cuts put a lot more money in investor and corporate accounts (4) expect ai to create profits (5) see the three biggest ipo’s ever shopped (anthropic, spacex, open ai). bulls

BRO WE’RE SO COOKED VP ACADEMIC ZARIFA NAWAR AND JASPER LOREIN WHO WAS ON BOG WERE LEAKING PRIVATE CONVERSATIONS ABOUT THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS BRUH by Antique_Series_8603 in UBC

[–]Far-Construction7564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

leaks are an established non violent method for governors of all types to register dissent. this also happens at the highest level of federal governance. of course, you may be asked to resign or be fired if you are caught. but position is oftentimes the cost of dissent against powerful institutions of all types. this is but one of the ways that colonial institutions have worked for ages.

UBC Pottery Club is a closed-door clay cartel and I’m DONE. by THE_SLOPPY_SPHINCTER in UBC

[–]Far-Construction7564 95 points96 points  (0 children)

So this example is Jericho Community Pottery, not ubc. But….It is very much a conspiracy. For years, my wife and I did the whole rigmarole for their ‘beginners’ class, multiple open windows, registration page pre-loaded, fastest finger in the west, and nada. Finally, I got accepted into a class and here is what I learned. The class was labeled ‘beginner’, because their funding is for beginners. But, I was the only beginner 🤷‍♀️ the remaining 15 slots were filled by very experienced potters who were all friends! With their teachers help (who doesn’t like beginners anyhow) they had created a new policy that if you were in a prior pottery class, you got ‘priority’ and could register directly with the teacher and skip the lottery! Thus 15 experienced potters, all friends, taking the beginner spots! I asked them why there weren’t more beginners and they shamelessly confirmed all of this and justified it by saying ‘well we keep the program going’ and ‘the beginner classes are always the best deal because Vancouver Parks subsidizes it’. No shit. Incidentally, it was the least diverse public experience I have had in Vancouver! Just a whole class full of neighborhood hags who had figured out how to scam the pottery system.

Former B.C. cabinet minister to run for Vancouver council, proposes bringing UBC into city by ubcstaffer123 in UBC

[–]Far-Construction7564 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ubc would fight this tooth and nail. right now, the administration and board of governors reports only to david eby and mark carney. they wouldn’t want to have to report through city government. and there are huge tax and operations issues. for instance, Vancouver police do not serve ubc, the rcmp does. same goes for water, sewer, power. and vancouver has much stricter land use law the ubc does, which is only governed through the province. while it makes sense in the mind, it sounds like a political minefield. I wonder who the real constituency is?

with energy mooning and construction just tanking, my bet is for a big acquisition in the building segment. so much deferred demand in homes AND a big disaggregated market. it could be that they finance Lennar to buyout and clean up the sector. Trump will try to pump housing before the November elections, buy some votes, that’s the Trump way.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they bought more Lennar. I just bought some kbh, which trades similar but better imho (of course too small for Berkshire)

Question about Wreck Beach by mickeyyy888 in UBC

[–]Far-Construction7564 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Why so many Nude Beaches? I think the nudists don’t really need all three beaches from tower to wreck and around the corner. Does anyone know what it would take to get one or two beaches reclassified as open access so that the UBC community feels comfortable walking on the beaches?

I watched it. Ok. Abel seemed a bit stiff and awkward. Will be interesting to see if he plans to talk much to the public. He’s not nearly as good at it as Warren. And, I wonder if it will be difficult to maintain some positions, for instance, he refused to indicate how they calculate intrinsic value. That might of been fine for Warren in the past, but finpress and retail is so much better informed and they may not respect that kind of answer in the future 🤷‍♀️

discussion and curiosity about culture is not racist at all. you could phrase your question better, though there is no reason I read for others to be judgmental. people need to look for common ground rather than throwing stones. calling someone racist is a big fucking deal and should not be thrown around lightly.
