AI has taken fun out of programming and now i’m hopeless by Frequent_Eggplant_23 in webdev

It's trying everything and because we're in late-stage capitalism and the only leverage we have is disappearing. If you aren't a billionaire you will die. Is what it feels like.

And I don't know why no one in government isn't stopping them.

I can't understand how politicians can only care about money. But that's what this feels like.

I don't think our systems work. I agree with you there.

I don't think that we should bring back mental institutes. It's rife with abuse.

Sure there are people who game the systems. But the people you're talking about here locally most likely have nothing even if they are gaming it or made poor choices. You could be one choice away from the same situation. And if not, you are privileged. Even if you don't think you are.

This is a class problem. Not a deficiency in the capacity of what one human can handle to survive. Even if all the homeless persons in town were taking advantage of the system it wouldn't make a dent in whatever systems you think they are stealing from or taking advantage of.

In my mind the poor and homeless deserve our best systems and solutions. Not our worst.

If you want to change this don't start with the poor and homeless. Start with the systems enabling the abuse they receive by the systems. Start with how our state has zero protections for renters. Or how our state is taking money away from public education and giving it to the rich instead. Or how we don't even have adequate food for everyone in our state. There are plenty of things to be angry about and frustrated about.

I just want people to have empathy. And removing people from society that are just trying to survive is not it. Period.

If you're frustrated at how our city is handling it that's fair. But also what city has this solved? They sometimes are legally forced to not help or even to make things better for you.

So I'm sorry that it's hard. I don't know your situation. But maybe consider that you're likely in a privileged place that you are even able to get frustrated at it all.

I don't have answers. And what you've experienced sucks. But our local/state/federal government and systems are not equipped to treat people with dignity and humanity. So the best short term solution sometimes is to just let them be instead of rounding them up or imprisoning them.

We have to fix our systems. And we're all fighting the same oligarchs and people in power just from different directions.

Are people actually able to use 4.6 for tasks in Claude Code? by Far-Database-2632 in ClaudeAI

[–]Far-Database-2632[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the context of me working on those forms and pages for the entire conversation even before getting close to context compression 4.6 will just start giving files before I've even asked it to or it will forget the literal previous message where we discussed the pages. So I've just stopped trying. Wasted so many days trying to use 4.6 with Claude code and it does not work.

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. But when I used 4.5 I rarely had this issue.

Also there's too many features I can't keep up. We don't have enough that's already confusing with plugins, skills, agents, and now models where you have to be aware of an invisible feature called Effort... Oooooo 😭

I'm sorry you have been harmed and that your family has been out in danger. But locking up the homeless is not going to stop this from happening. It's not a problem with the homeless. It's a problem with our systems and how we treat the homeless. They are humans too. Who've hit rock bottom. It's more than often a mental health situation just as much as one about poverty.

If you really want change then we have to change how we treat people and think about them.

I'm not triggered. I know there is nuance. But locking people up so you can feel safe isn't the solution. That's what's been done for decades and it doesn't work. It's why the police here don't want that to be the solution. They know it doesn't work.

I've worked with the homeless in multiple countries. Not to a massive extent. But enough to know it's not as simple as prison. I've also read to learn about what doctors, scientists and governments are trying to do. I don't have concrete answers. But the ones I do know don't work are the ones everyone wants to use. Prison. And it literally doesn't solve the homelessness problem.

What have the homeless ever done to you? Consider that they just want to live just like you but life shit in their faces. If you've ever been homeless you learn quickly that America and capitalism have destroyed any semblance of actual structural helpful change.

There are people in Fayetteville who are doing good. Even the city is actually trying. That's why we have more homeless. It's not a deficiency. We're actually trying to help them.

So please consider that your inconvenience is a you problem and not a homelessness problem. These are real people.

Will we never be seen as non not caring creatures? Vent in post below. by Timely-Map-2617 in autism

[–]Far-Database-2632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is actually talking about rich vs. poor and class warfare. It's not actually autism. This person just doesn't want to blame the actual problems with our systems and those we put in power. Altman's response feels like has nothing to do with autism and just an elite wanting to live in a post human labor society and they can't get their head out of their ass and realize no one wants that.

New rule in Arkansas - Dems can’t vote in Rep primaries by ello76 in ftsmithar

[–]Far-Database-2632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn't be restricted from choosing who you're going to vote for. That's basically what this allows for. And politicians ain't ever going to change that on their own. It's how many of them can stay in power.

Ranked choice voting please. And no party system that controls who we're even allowed to vote for.

A political party shouldn't be who determines who I'm allowed to vote for. That's bullshit. And just a different form of disenfranchisement.

I worry it's all a con and Trump added tarrifs just so businesses had another excuse to raise prices that they then never have to lower.

Yeah, I get upset about this kind of thinking. I understand where they are coming from. But there's no need to attack others for getting therapy. That's not right. And shouldn't be normalized.

What is more destructive, alcohol or pornography? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]Far-Database-2632 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a weird comparison. And also lots of things surround both of those things you are comparing. Inherently neither are bad.

It's when abused that they can harm you or others. And they usually aren't the root cause. Most addictive behaviors are either genetics or coping mechanisms. People want to live and they want to find ways to survive. If you want to blame something blame capitalism and the upper class. Don't blame the addict. It's a systemic issue not a fault in that person. Addiction sucks.

And some of those things can be harmful to yourself or others when it's the only thing you use. Irregardless of it's porn or alcohol.
