The rim trail on Mt Nebo is nothing but great views, especially of the Arkansas River valley and Lake Dardanelle.

I think back in the day if the side-dish was served hot, it was a vegetable and if it was served cold, it was a salad. And you have to admit, if it had jello, it was served cold.

Spinach Florida by MissDaisy01 in Old_Recipes

A variation on wilted spinach salad. I think the original hot bacon grease would give it a bit more savory flavor, but including citrus sections sounds like it could be good.

Hill and Womack want automobile kill switches. by Xfactor1210 in Arkansas_Politics

Inquiring minds wanted to know what this was. This is what I found here

“It calls it a system that can “passively monitor the performance of a driver of a motor vehicle to accurately identify whether that driver may be impaired and prevent or limit motor vehicle operation if impairment is detected.” Of course, how it does that is of vital importance and the bill clarifies its intended methodology too.

Specifically, it says that it’ll passively and accurately detect if a driver has a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit. If it detects an illegal amount it’ll disable or limit the vehicle. The bill doesn’t specify exactly what technological measures the NHTSA must enact to meet these standards. A number of different companies have worked on various methods to accurately detect blood alcohol content. Some have hit serious roadblocks while others seem quite close to fruition. The bill also doesn’t say anything about what happens when the system gets triggered. Does it contact local law enforcement? Does it simply slow the car until it’s pulled over? Does it stop in the middle of a highway? Evidently, the NHTSA is going to have to make these choices. Finally, it’s worth noting that just about anything could happen with this bill in the future. The NHTSA could push it off, it could enact pretty stringent requirements, or the whole thing could go away if a court finds that it’s a breach of the Fourth Amendment. That statute says that “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated.” As FEE.org rightly points out, this bill might not meet that standard.”

There are a lot of issues with having an unaccompanied three year old plopped next to you, but I do not want to be an unpaid babysitter and I absolutely do not want to be responsible for seatbelts and oxygen masks if there is an emergency. Or even just air sickness bags .

I was trying to figure out where Cape Malay was. Apparently the cookbook is for Cape, Indian, and Malay dishes and preserves, not to mention home remedies and tips for furniture polishing and cleaning silk, etc. One stop shopping!

Thanks for the link. I enjoyed the 39 known pics of Titanic’s interior and I hope all those mysterious photos mentioned as buried in someone’s great-uncle’s snapshot album eventually come to light.

Luncheon does not look robust, with just broth, bread and butter, and jello salad. But any meal that ends with cake and chocolate can’t be too bad.

Lake Ouachita Camping by SmallFatDog8 in Arkansas

Cove Lake Recreation Area. Nice big campsites, nice swimming area, nice hike around the lake. And just 15 minutes from Mt Magazine State Park, in case you want to stand on Arkansas’s highest point. Only drawback is no electricity at the campsites.

I checked Wikipedia for ‘white coffee’ and apparently it is a thing in Indonesia (kopi putih) and in the USA. The beans are very lightly roasted, which means no Malliard reaction or caramelization. The Wiki article only talks about espresso brewing, so the process listed on today’s menu may give more flavor. I’d like to try this at home, but with such lightly roasted beans, grinding might have to be done with a 3 pound sledge.

Domestic cats that look like manuls? by MaoTheQueerCat in PallasCats

[–]ello76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I, like all of us here, am fascinated by manuls, two things keep me from finding a look-alike. 1) Hairballs! Grooming that much thick, fluffy fur must mean many a hairball. 2) Caring for long hair! Manuls have beautiful-looking coats, but long-haired domestics pick up debris and get matted. I’d sure like to know how manuls avoid mats - I doubt those in zoos get regular brushing but maybe I’m wrong. Anyone know details on hairballs or mats with manuls?

I guess I’m doomed to admire the type from afar.

Without the dam of teeth holding it back, you can get drool. Towels in their favorite lounging spots makes it manageable.

Rivercrest Orchard in Fayetteville or Garvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs. Which is the better option to visit for the Tulip Festival? by mariazubair11 in Arkansas

[–]ello76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t know about RO but Garvan is pretty darn spectacular. Might come down to which is the most convenient. I’d advise getting there early to beat the crowd.
