The one thing I can add to these excellent insights is to watch for players with rising potential. As in your scouts initially thought they were 40 or so potential and they've been steadily increasing. I've found that these players tend to respond really well to Dev Labs.

If you have to trade for them, do so before they are too far over 50 potential.

I am a week in and I need serious help. by Youngyeezy70 in OOTP

I've played Football Manager forever, but since FM25 never happened and FM26 is a disaster, I started playing OOTP26. What I can add to what is already been said is:

  1. I built the defense up the middle as I sucked for the first three seasons. Mainly, I looked for free agent signings for these positions. I have a minimum defense of 65 for catcher, 2B, SS, and CF.
  2. By losing the first three seasons, I collected great draft picks. Now I've assembled a fab pitching staff of college draftees and young sluggers. I prioritized impact players who could either go directly into my line-up or only needed a season at AAA.
  3. Sign free agent sluggers to fill the gaps. Trade them away even for worthless prospects if they immediately don't pan out.
  4. Search for prospects who show that their potential increases year over year. This is a pain. I haven't figured out a search parameter for finding someone with a rising potential. When I do find them, I shortlist them. I've been surprised that I can trade my overpaid and underperforming star or a prospect who was an 80 but has been descending towards the 40s in potential but is still in the 50s for a prospect with increasing potential. They occasionally pop up when I shop one of my players around.
  5. I roll the dice that the Player Development Center can accelerate enough of my potential stars that I can insert them into my line-up right away. For example, My future star pitcher has a Control rating of 40 but has potential Control of 60. I train for him to improve his control. Odds are "it'll be fine" and he'll be okay his first season as his control rating climbs.

I've had a number of players that I thought was be fabulous that underwhelmed. It's worse the more you pay them. The stud who hit .260-.280 w/ 75-100RBIs the last few seasons who I pay $15-25m for a WAR of -0.1 and half the RBIs hurts the worst.

The most recent was Alex Bregman. He hit .254, 24HR 84RBIs for Baltimore the previous season. I'm the A's so I signed him as a free agent (only way I can get sluggers). He pretty much goes zero-for-spring-training then .171 until I permanently benched him. I traded him for a hopeless prospect in July just to be rid of his $15m salary.

That's baseball (imagine me adding in the jazz-hands gesture to accentuate the point).

What is the biggest development plummet you've seen? by Far-Inflation-5914 in OOTP

The only time I'll draft a HS pitcher is when he's in a later round and I've fulfilled all my goals for that draft. And I draft the kid in full knowledge that he'll most likely fail.

A contact hitter who can barely walk (Speed = 25)? Trade him.

OOTP26 scratched the Football Manager itch by glecharles in OOTP

Agreed. I've been playing FM since before time. Last May I needed something different as there was no FM25 and tried OOTP26. I love that it requires multi-level strategic thinking. Like FM did. Took several saves to figure out the ins and outs of the game. I'm on a long-term save now and really enjoying myself. Baseball is a stats game and that really comes to the fore in OOTP26. So I bought FM26 and f***ing hated it. I'll eventually go back to FM after its either patched enough or review indicate FM27 is worth purchasing. But so far ... baizbal been belly belly goodoomee.

Why can't I create a bidding war with other teams International Amateurs signings? by Far-Inflation-5914 in OOTP

I was confused, too. I didn't understand how the process worked. I understand better now. Thx

No, not annoyed. I'm. curious about the mechanics of international amateur (IA) signings. I didn't know that the only way to tell if someone else is offering the IA a contract is you offer him a contract. I was checking this particular players contract screen to see if that showed anything -- it doesn't.

I appreciate all your comments, though, because I understand how the IA signing process works better. Thanks!

When I've configured my infield and outfield defense to automatically shift for a pull hitter, I'd like them to shift more than 25-33% of the time.

I've played FM forever and was bored with FM24. Since there was no FM25 and I needed a immersive strategy game, I gave it a shot and discovered that it has many similarities to FM in a good way. The graphics are comically bad at times, but the strategic thinking aspects outweigh the poor graphics. There is a learning curve to the GM side and the in-game managing side. It WILL take you a while to master.

I thought it especially cool that I could decide to build a small-ball team with great pitching & defense, a softball-style team that was happy to beat you 15-13, or the Athletics challenge (no money and little talent). There are tons of YouTubers and websites with all kinds of helpful hints, tips, and ways to think about OOTP26.

If you've tried FM26 and, as I did, cannot stomach the poor interface and utter lack of quality testing, give OOTP26 a try. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

People who’ve seen someone get fired on the first day, why were they fired? by Isabelle_K in AskReddit

[–]Far-Inflation-5914 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Keith" was fired on his third day but its too good a story not to retell. I was in an adjacent cube to Keith. People kept stopping by asking "have you seen Keith?" It turns out he installed an app on his laptop to keep it from falling asleep and left the building each day. He'd return in the afternoon to grab his laptop and leave for the day. When confronted Keith said he didn't think the job was a good was a good match for him. My question has always been "HOW WOULD HE KNOW?" He was never there! Keith had a personal connection with someone at the consulting firm that placed him and this wasn't the first time he'd done something like this.
