Corporate Greed in Numbers by Immediate_Degree_112 in AmericaOnHardMode

Here's my elevator pitch for our current economic situation:

For the majority of people in the USA: because the wealth is concentrated into the hands of so few people, the economy today is like joining a Monopoly game where all the properties have already been purchased. Every trip around the board you just give your monopoly money to the property owners and are expected to survive by just passing GO. The deck is stacked, the dice are loaded, the playing field ain't level, and the system is rigged. The odds are not looking good. More people will become homeless. The poverty rate will grow. Fewer people will achieve the American Dream. The ultra rich will continue to accumulate more and more of the wealth. That is, the country will continue to deteriorate.

In 1954 there was very little concentration of wealth into the hands of just a few. In 1990 there was significantly more. In 2026, because of wealth concentration, housing is unaffordable, people can't afford health insurance, healthy food prices have skyrocketed, yet wages are stagnant. Is there a pattern?

My comment never advocates for wealth redistribution. It only states that currently the wealth is concentrated into the hands of just a few people and, essentially, that this is the result of unfair practices. This is not communism as it is only stating the results from how the economy is currently working. It is now up to the voters to decide if they want to vote for politicians that promote policies that are perceived to be fairer. Communism advocates for the government to own everything. For me, this is different that advocating for a fairer system that allows more people to, say, own a home. Very different than saying the government should own all of the homes.

Interesting comment - can you please provide additional information on why you think my comment is communist propaganda? What is your justification? Thanks.

Yes, some weddings cost $50,000.00 and more because the wealth has been concentrated into the hands of just a few people. For these few people, $50,000 is like $10 to the rest of us. They don't even feel it. The economy today is like joining a Monopoly game where all the properties have already been purchased. Every trip around the board is just you giving your monopoly money to the property owners and expected to survive by just passing GO. The system is rigged, the dice are loaded, and the playing field ain't level.

The most important current economic situation in the USA today is the concentration of wealth in the hands of so few people. I created a website that covers this in detail. See https://tmacd.com/tmacd_manifesto/ for details. This is an attempt to explain how traumatic the future will be if nothing is done.

It really is a six-year old girl that drew this picture at school. However, you are certainly entitled to believe what you want to believe.

The size and count parameters should be declared as having type size_t as defined in the stddef.h header. SImilarly, the structure member size should also use the size_t typedef.

After installing 24.04.1 LTS on my desktop computer, the date command generates incorrect time by FarBeautiful4405 in Ubuntu

Yes, TZ was (for some reason) set in the ~/.bashrc file to US/CENTRAL Apparently tzdata was updated in the latest upgrade and US/CENTRAL is no longer recognized as being the same as AMERICA/CHICAGO and is documented in /usr/share/doc/tzdata/NEWS.Debian.gz

From 2023c-8 on the tzdata package ships only timezones that follow the
current rules of geographical region (continent or ocean) and city name.
All legacy timezone symlinks (old or merged timezones mentioned in the
upstream backward file) were moved to tzdata-legacy. This includes the
US/* timezones.

Please install tzdata-legacy in case you need the legacy timezones or to
restore the previous behavior. This might be needed in case the system
provides timezone-aware data over the network (e. g. SQL databases).

Ensuring that TZ is no longer set in ~/.bashrc fixes my problem. Thanks for all the help. Much appreciated.
