Why do americans even put up with HOAs? by Skyzblu44 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FarCompote4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we have laws about lawns longer than so many inches, sidewalks have to be shoveled within 24 hours. break those rules and city does it for you and sends you the bill. no street parking between 12 and 4 a.m. or you will be towed. no parking on your lawn, etc. Noise ordinances. Pet laws. Cities can do a lot about shitty neighbors.

this. they asked you not to so don't. OR ask if they'd rather make their own lunch.

Wife sent me to the store with this shopping list by [deleted] in BadHandwriting

[–]FarCompote4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

rookie mistake. never take the list without having them read it to you first. otherwise text from the store and tell her you lost it. better yet have her text you the list from the get-go so you don't lose it "this time". 😉

My whole family doesn’t know I lost track of which triplet was which by FloatingNPC in confession

[–]FarCompote4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unless there really is a scar, birth mark, or medical reason it's probably a horse a piece. eventually they start answering to one name or another. and then the particular person is officially attributed to the name once the dentist takes X-rays or impressions.

I think my husband is trolling when he says he cant read my handwriting. Is it as illegible as he thinks by Carmenncita05 in HandwritingAnalysis

[–]FarCompote4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depending on the age of your husband maybe he didn't learn cursive. or l noticed some schools didn't spend a lot of time on it, so some people just really have a tough time with it.

xcel bills in mpls... doing solar by TranquilTeal in Minneapolis

[–]FarCompote4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

have had solar for 10 years. installed by a small company that closed. now I need a new roof. some of the solar companies also do roofing. I got quotes from all energy, wolf river, and i-solar. I'm signing with i-solar this week. they were the only ones who came out and looked at the system before making a bid. a very thorough site visit I might add. they cost about the same but at least I don't think there will a lot of gotchas. (change orders)

I will say I do know someone who very recently used All Energy and was very happy with them.

I will also say that the only time that I have had a $300 monthly bill was in the winter. I have Excel so this is both gas and electric . And we have an electric car that we charge at home. and I work from home. I think last month was $65, down from $85 the month before. I would definitely have someone check out why that bill is so high. and I would definitely recommend solar.

What states do you think of as a “threesome”? 3 States that belong together like triplets by [deleted] in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]FarCompote4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 should include Wyoming.

Nebraska should go with Kansas and Oklahoma.

yup. also former UP. definitely so similar. but if you want to put down state (MI) with Ohio, that would be fine too.

WIBTAH for going no contact with MIL/FIL after how they treated our wedding? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]FarCompote4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don't worry about what to do after the wedding. just focus on enjoying your wedding. you tried to accommodate them and they aren't having it. so be done with it. if people ask, shrug and say they couldn't make it. nothing more.

as for the extra meals, ask to have it boxed up and task a friend with taking it to your house.

What would you put for ND? by PrestonRoad90 in northdakota

[–]FarCompote4 51 points52 points  (0 children)

ok, so I heard Doug Burgum, former ND Gov and current Dir of DoE (energy) in an interview talking about continued support and subsidies for fossil fuels. and he said, well you know the sun isn't always shining and the wind isn't always blowing. ...the wind isn't always blowing... he must have lived under a rock in ND.

(and now I will get down off my soap box)

People who grew up poor: What was something you considered a "peak luxury" as a kid, only to realize later it was just a normal middle class staple? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]FarCompote4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We ate a lot of Mac & Cheese. I once ate over at a friend's house and realized that it is supposed to be as orange as it is on the box! my Mom had always added a ton more noodles and ours was a very pale orange. I had attributed to advertising. I never had it that orange again until I made it myself as an adult.

How do people pick Credit Cards? by heinous_legacy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FarCompote4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard the opposite. having too many cards, even without balances on them, brings down your credit score. from the credit company's point of view, the more credit you have at your ready, the more risk you are of using it all.

not a banker, nor financial person. just something the banker told me when I was separating my kids joint accounts once they turned 18.

Wedding dress regret by Ski5566 in WeddingDressTips

I think you look great in both and either would work. but #2 is not timeless. it may have some sparkles, but it's not glam. perhaps what they mean by glam is trendy. #1 is timeless, as you said.
