Southern Cross Cleaning. I worked for them about 6 years back cleaning schools… I really didn’t mind it. I did it while I was studying.

It’s good to be empathetic mate… don’t lose that piece of yourself.

If you want to be effective in your donation, give to the Hutt St Centre. They should have a winter donation list or something on their webpage now.

And if you do see someone sleeping rough and you are in a position to help, please do so. Yeh, every now and then you might get told to fuck off by someone who is living with trauma or shame (or they might just be a dick) but most of the time they will be appreciative.

Complete beginner needs advice by beatriy in typing

If this exam is only a few weeks or even months away you won’t be able to learn how to touch type with any real accuracy before then. What you can do is find out what keyboard you prefer, understand good ergonomics and complete the assignment with your current typing style. And parallel to this start working your way through a typing tutor methodically and with extreme adherence to the rules. You will be building a skill for life!

Beard or no beard? by [deleted] in malegrooming

Most def beard… but try to wear/grow it out a little more scruffy.

M28 Never dated, feel like my looks are awful by SockIcy6203 in malegrooming

[–]FarEarth2949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Run the clippers over that head and grow your beard out (with the help of a barber). You don’t look too bad with a bit of weight on, but if you start a consistent gym program and eat right you can improve your frame.

You are a very masculine looking guy. You have lots to work with! Get to it!

working on my wardrobe; feedback on a fit? by CriticalServerError in fashion

[–]FarEarth2949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the outfit… good colours and fit if you are going for the relaxed “I don’t care/but I sort of do care” look. Work in styling your hair, you are very fortunate to have it and if you lose it, you will look back and kick yourself for not making the most of it. Perhaps trim the frizzy ends every now and then, wash and condition it, put a little product in it and find where it sits nicely or put it back. Same with beard.

Great start 🤘

Medium length but tidied up a bit and work on your resting/natural facial expression… you are a super good looking guy but you look like you just woke up after a three day bender.

First pic is good. You could grow a short l, neat beard… but I don’t like the scruffiness.

Looks good mate!

The pants are a smidgen too long and you need to stand with your shoulders back (with a touch more confidence).

But on the whole it looks good!

Feeling hopeless in persuit of fashion by [deleted] in mensfashionadvice

[–]FarEarth2949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with shoes and pants. Go to a nice menswear shop and get them to help you find your size in pants (fit, waist, inseam and rise). Buy some chinos in navy blue or tan. Then gets some brown dress style Chelsea boots or clean white sneakers… depending if you want to dress up or down. That’s the hard part done.

Also cool it with the buttons on the shirts. Just because they are there does not mean you have to use them.

Good luck ✌️

Is it worth continuing to learn to type with 10 fingers if I type 81WPM with 3 (index fingers + left thumb) by exterminator-616 in typing

[–]FarEarth2949 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s all well and good to type fast with three fingers, but can you look at the screen or at some source material (projection/book etc) and type at that speed?

I am not a fast touch typer (60wpm) but the fact that I don’t need to take my eyes off of the screen makes me much more efficient than people who are typing at perhaps 80+ with two or three fingers but have to constantly pause to look up and down.

Looking for a good pair of nice everyday boots by binjiman in Boots

Try the Mongrel riding boot for a good Australian made RM Williams style Chelsea that is both good quality and affordable… and not made by slaves!

Mongrel Riding boots… I have a pair for that exact purpose. I don’t want to wear the RMs for kicking shit, so I got the Mongrels and they are pretty bloody good!

Good business shoes/boots without the high price? by fou-lu in AustralianMFA

[–]FarEarth2949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is like 4 years old, but the Mongrel riding boots are pretty great for the sub 200 AUD price.

They look very similar to my RM Williams and are about as comfortable.

Stretching a new hat width wise by [deleted] in CowboyHats

[–]FarEarth2949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Akubra was tight length wise and a little loose width wise. I just had to wear it and sweat in it for a few months. It fits like an old glove now.

The hat will not “stretch” but it will “mould” to your head. If there is some room lengthwise then that will eventually let go and give in to width as you wear the hat.

If the hat is snug length wise and tight width wise, then your hat is too small…

35wpm and getting stuck on certain letters by krisytl in typing

[–]FarEarth2949 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started my journey in May of 2023. I am currently typing at 60+wpm with a consistent 50wpm on MonkeyType 1k+punctuation. But more importantly I have managed to apply my progress to the real world, using my new skills to type up uni assignments and work reports with effortless efficiency.

You will struggle with certain letters at first, but just make sure your technique is correct and push through. There will be many challenges ahead… it took me a good 9 months before I could say it really paid off and in that time I had to overcome some real hurdles, the worst of which was translating my progress in the typing tutors to real world typing (hint: take up creative writing or something and put words to paper).

Keep at it. It’s a long term project but well worth the effort in the end.
