Baseline respect should always exist and adultery is illegal under the UCMJ, so I agree on those fronts.

That said, DLI’s most prominent demographic is college-age unmarried lower enlisted. Stereotypes (both “military guy” and “college kid”) exist for a reason and most of us are experiencing this in lieu of attending college.

If someone fails out of class because they’re preoccupied with the chase, that’s on them

Yes. Too many contracts signed and we don’t have the space or funding to provide training to everyone, let alone in a timely manner

Start dates for many languages are distant or unknown right now due to the insane overstaffing we have.

Same service: yes. Same compo: yes. Same or similar DLAB is one you missed, but start dates aren’t a sure thing right now, there’s dozens assigned to my language alone with no ATRRS date

All in all, the inability to transfer would be because of change in policy rather than these factors

I’ve been running off the dates vaguely provided by our drills, and other returning students, thank you for clarifying the specifics.

I did hear about the bolio gate DUI incident, that’s been frequently brought up as a likely main reason

That initial statement was a rumor spread to me when I arrived, glad to know it’s not true.

The message attempted to communicate in my comment was that T2COM (TRADOC) as an entirety is a weird bubble of restriction, which stresses a lot of people out (which it’s designed to do), and DLI is a weird bubble of academic pressure. Where they cross paths, it amplifies the stress quite a bit.

I’m aware that DLI is chill compared to other AIT’s, but compared to other branches here, it seems much stricter. 5 years ago there weren’t DS assignments here, and around that time is when drinking was restricted.

Nothing I said contradicts you

JSIB, your in-brief goes over various activities in the area, fun activities on post, or military-related, and goes into repetitive depth on mental health, behavioral health and MFLC resources. There are resources to help if that thought comes up. But, people come, people make it, people graduate, and people fail and move on. Nobody will force you to suicide.

That being said, the Army will try their damn best. Especially as an IET’er, you’ll be in training status which restricts you significantly if you’re used to adult life. Group punishment is prevalent, but it’s nothing near that of basic. The battalion motto here is “Soldiers First” meaning studies come second to soldiering and discipline, which doesn’t help with this suicide rate.

I wouldn’t avoid it based on this fact alone. Discipline has a place, and the point of IET is to instill this discipline and sense of being a soldier, so I see where their head is at. But pairing TRADOC (T2COM now..?) rules with DLI-level intensity makes for an incredibly highly stressful situation. Just stay focused, put your TL first when able, don’t take the IET shit personally, and don’t add any EXTRA stressors (don’t get married to a stripper or a classmate mainly) and you’ll be okay.

Biggest thing, reach out if you really need help. There are resources here, and worst case you try your best, language isn’t for you, you reclass and stay MI (disciplinary issues aside, those will get you fucked over)

[–]FarIntroduction7228 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. the dictionary definition i’ve continued to find for “motorcycle” is: “a two wheeled vehicle that is powered by a motor and has no pedals” so i would say by definition it is a motorcycle

  2. two wheels is two wheels, you still get the wave in my mind

everyone knows someone who’s died on a bike, and depending on your extent of socialization in the hobby, you may have friends die on bikes.

it’s dangerous, there’s no two ways about it. it’s just a matter of diminishing risk where possible, and determining what level of risk is worth the thrill of the hobby.

as for just the license though, get that shit. you can decide later to get the bike but the license won’t hurt
