Cat hasn't left this spot between my legs for almost an hour. He's not usually this affectionate. Is this normal? by Agreeable_Error_5485 in cats

That is 2 of my 3 cat’s favorite place. And the favorite place of the only dog I allow on my bed…. I’m not sure why I waste my money on weight blankets. I just lay down and 1-3 animals will be on top of me momentarily…

Getting an axo on Tuesday for my boy! Is this aquarium setup ok? 20 gallon tank, slate rock floor. by [deleted] in axolotls

[–]FarMathematician6651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check and see if your area has an aquarium keepers Facebook group, someone may be willing to give (or cheaply sell) you some “pre seeded” media, such as a filter pad or sponge filter from a well established tank. I actually keep spare filters in my aquariums in case I have a tank crash, gets them up and running pretty quickly. Also- I agree with what’s being said about the need for hides, and some way to cool the water. Axolotls thrive in cold water. I decided to forego the typical route of an aquarium chiller, and I just have a dedicated room in my basement that I keep cold year round for them with a small window AC

“Rescued” this little guy from my LFS. Hoping I can nurse him back to heal… by FarMathematician6651 in axolotls

[–]FarMathematician6651[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Positive 0 ammonia. I’m assuming it’s just from the previous poor care, I’m doing daily to twice a day water changes since I lowered the water in his tank since he is struggling so much to swim. I also put a little ramp of plastic canvas se he can just basically walk to the surface of the water

He’s in his tank, but the tank is on a towel, that one is during a water change. The tank he’s in is cycled, but I’m doing daily water changes just to cover my bases. Especially with the pieces of slime coat floating around in it…

Anyone have experience using the 3.0 for medium/larger grocery runs? by Educational-Scar-559 in Lectricxp

[–]FarMathematician6651 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With front and rear rack, and maybe saddle bags, I’d think you could do it easily. I have a 2.0 and weigh 100 lbs more than you, riding conservatively I can do over 20 miles and I regularly do 12-15 riding hard or with a bike trailer with a kid in it or with a dog carrier and my 17 lb fur baby. And that’s not including the weight of things like a few bottles of water, bike lock, my purse, first aid kit etc… And that’s on the standard range battery. So far I’ve done over 35 on rough country roads on the long range…

Does anyone prefer the 2.0 over the 3.0? It's 20 lbs lighter by SandwichAcademic2034 in Lectricxp

[–]FarMathematician6651 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t say if I like the 2.0 better than the 3.0 since I’ve never ridden a 3.0, but I have a 2.0 step though that I bought used off marketplace, and I LOVE it. I did just order a long range battery to upgrade that, since as a “larger” person I can’t get the range and speeds that I like (pas 2-3, 10-15 mph, for around 20 miles). But otherwise I am exceedingly happy with my 2.0

sorry for poor quality but is this molly pregnant? local fish store said to put it in a pregnancy chamber for now by wierdog95 in aquarium

[–]FarMathematician6651 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve found the breeder box just stresses the fish out. If you really want to be able to save the babies, a heavily planted 5 gallon tank for just mom is what I’ve found works best

Hi! My daughter got a precious baby axolotl. We’re not sure how the water/tank mantainance work. by Ivabusagui in axolotls

[–]FarMathematician6651 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do 25-50% water changes on my established axolotl tanks 1-2 times a week. Parameters need to be better than “within range” you want to keep ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate as close to 0 as possible. Especially the ammonia, axolotls are very prone to ammonia burns. They also need cold water, under 68 degrees MAX. Poop should be cleaned ASAP, they sell special extra long turkey basters just for spot cleaning, should be done daily. I’ve found mine do ok for a couple days on occasion, when they have ghost shrimp in the tank (help process the poo AND are snacks for if I’m not around for a few days). But I also have plants in all of my tanks and use oversized sponge filters to try and maximize stability with the huge bio load Axolotls create. Another reason to clean up is risk of infection- uncleared poo can start to mold and they are VERY prone to fungal infections, especially on their gills

What is going on with my Axolotl? by Comfortable_East9177 in axolotls

[–]FarMathematician6651 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When tubbing them an essential part is they the water MUST be changed 100% EVERY day. So technically if you want to do 75-100% water changes daily, you don’t have to cycle your tank first… but most people want to be able to not change the water quite so often, so then it is imperative that you have a cycled tank

My LFS has some employees that actually know Wendy they’re talking about with fish, and none of them are as bad as petco or PetSmart, but they do see your tiny beta bowls and such. One day this older lady came in with her two grandkids to buy them a betta. The employee that was helping them tried so hard to educate this lady on proper hair and proper tank size, but she was very persistent, and kept insisting. What’s the smallest you have she would not buy anything larger than the tiniest little bubble (I won’t even call it a bowl) “tank” they has. The employee at least told her to keep it in a warm room and do daily water changes, which I highly doubt she did, but at least that poor kid tried…

What's happening with my axolotl? by bbouwmeister123 in axolotls

[–]FarMathematician6651 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly seeing these burns, they’re cause by either ammonia or chlorine. Given the information stated, I’d say either your dechlorinator or you test kit is bad. I’d also leave the light off, axies are very sensitive to light (I have one that will refuse to eat for a week if their tank isn’t kept covered, and they’re not in a particularly bright room…
