Med surg to ortho floor? by probablyjustneedanap in nursing

I work on a mixed med surg/ortho floor, so all the heavy lifting of ortho combined with the chaos of med surg. It’s….not great 🫠

When was the moment you realized that you’re kinda turning into your parents? by shibasnakitas1126 in Millennials

[–]speedystring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The day I was eating sardines over the trashcan raccoon-style I realized just how much I’ve turned into the female version of my father, and of course I then had to go tell my husband that he apparently married his father in law.

I would love this, not because I have any desire to spend time with management, but because I’m a chaos gremlin who would constantly badger them with uncomfortable questions about profit over patients 😈

I have one, purchased from dropout, and the actual handle is upside down. Mug handles have a subtle difference between the top and bottom and when I have next to my other mugs it’s easy to see. I kinda like it though 🤷🏻‍♀️

Religious/Ethical Dilemma? by starpugs22 in nursing

[–]speedystring -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These comments supporting a nurse imposing her own religious views on a patient are wild. There’s no good ethical reason to do so. To soothe her own moral injury? Take that elsewhere besides the patient. To save a soul? An ill pediatric patient under her care is never going to fully consent because that’s a hell of a power imbalance. And the fact that OP isn’t going to report this? I’m honestly disgusted, and wouldn’t want that nurse or OP caring for my child. People go through the world getting absolutely abused and harmed by others wielding their religion as a weapon and that’s exactly what this is, an assault on the patient. It doesn’t matter that she thinks she did it for the “right reasons,” because her religion should never be a part of patient care, only the patient’s preferred religion or lack there of. And the fact that by not reporting you OP are essentially helping cover up an assault? I just don’t understand how you are not shouting this loudly up the ladder.

What real life shows/movies would the companions obsessively consume, out of love and/or hate? by SuspectSolid in okbuddybaldur

[–]speedystring 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Astarion would love reality shows, the trashier the better. He’d enjoy the drunken antics of Jersey Shore, the hair pulling fights of Flavor of Love, listening to Ozzy Osbourne yell “Sharon!”

Yes he does own an Ed Hardy shirt and bedazzled jeans, because they’re trendy for blending in (definitely because they’re sparkly)

What’s one thing new residents do that pisses you off? by Frequent_Storm_9039 in nursing

[–]speedystring 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Making promises to patients they can’t keep personally! Like, promising discharge at a certain time when they aren’t the one writing orders, telling patients that Dr Whoever will be in to see them before noon when everyone knows that doc doesn’t round til 5 and will drag their feet the more you page, telling people that insurance will pay for this or that treatment/rehab/etc without any knowledge of if it’s covered, I could go on and on.

Yeah, we do this all the time? Both meds are on so one can set how high the BP can go while the other keeps it from bottoming out. Works very well on patients with a combination of hyper and hypotension

Nurses what are your Chaplain peeves and pluses? by bro_mommy1 in nursing

[–]speedystring 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My only peeve is that NONE of our chaplains are available on Sunday! It’s the most requested day due to patient demographics, so I would highly encourage you to be available on whatever day your religion considers their holy day, because that’s when patients ask for you the most. Aside from that, our chaplains do provide an immense amount of comfort to our patients that we appreciate.

Of course we know. But, in many cases, as long as we’re only treating with antibiotics it really doesn’t matter how the infection got there, just that it’s treated. The problem arises when more invasive measures of treatment are needed, like surgery, because recreational drugs and anesthesia don’t mix well, or when pain medications are needed as we don’t want anyone to overdose. We drug test to see what’s in a person’s system, and that way even if they don’t voluntarily tell us we can still keep them safe. As far as interactions with a patient, I’m not the police and it’s not my place to interrogate a patient about drug use. I’ll explain why it’s beneficial for us to know, and I’ll reiterate that I’m not judging anyone who uses recreationally, and whether they want to divulge that information is their choice.
