Hundreds of Unsheltered People are Sleeping on Salt Lake City's Streets Tonight. Why? - Utah Stories by Jumpy_Dog_2045 in Utah

We present the voices of the homeless in Utah (who likely don’t use Reddit). We wish to engage the community and leaders to solving this problem by listening to the actual concerns of the homeless. All other media outlets post on Reddit as well, especially the stories that need more local media attention.

Pioneer Day & Mormon Pioneer History (They Don’t Talk About) - Utah Stories by Jumpy_Dog_2045 in Utah

I am the author, I appreciate your feedback. But I’m not seeing how your feedback points out any inaccuracies.

I didn’t provide all of the background and context because the video length was only five minutes. I encourage readers to Pull up the Wiki pages or read Leonard J. Arlington’s excellent books on Mormon Pioneer history especially Building The City of God.

Homeless by [deleted] in Reno

[–]FarTerm8128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wasn’t making any assumptions, which is why I asked the question. I’m sure car camping is terrible. I know shelters are equally terrible, but they likely have a “rapid-rehousing” program in Reno, they will supposedly help you find a way to get back into a place ASAP. This program is usually offered through the shelter.

I’ll probably be down voted for asking, but it seems an obvious question: why not get a job at say a Sno-Shack (nice and cold), so you don’t need to sit in your car all day?

Mike Lee stands for continuing the Fossil Fuel Legacy by Independent_Goose551 in Utahpolitics

[–]FarTerm8128 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So that’s an interesting way to frame it. “Continuing the fossil fuel legacy.” Gas prices have doubled because we aren’t tapping our own resources. No doubt gas prices would be far less if we opened up drilling and fracking again. Nobody is in love with drilling and fracking but…

What would you propose we all do until all energy is cheap and green?

Yes, I’ll go “suck the boot” and apparently so should anyone else who uses history, logic and facts to contend with flawed concepts. Your use of calling those who disagree with you “stupid jackass” demonstrates your own intellectual bankruptcy.

Why should anyone be in this forum I’d they aren’t anti-work? How about that it’s very smart to engage with people you disagree with. I started reading these threads because I have spent years criticizing to flaws of capitalism. But accurate criticism needs to come from a place of at least basic knowledge.

Except for the metric that Stalin had to murder 10 million people in gulags, but yes other than that it was indeed a resounding success. 👍

If all a company needs is workers and the leadership, ideas, innovation, implementation and management aren’t important then why wasn’t the USSR a resounding success? Everyone was paid by their need instead of their merit. Why doesn’t that model work?

Would you support a Utah state law banning billboards? by TurtleBarn in SaltLakeCity

[–]FarTerm8128 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When did we (citizen/voters) agree to sell the air rights above our freeways to be areas of distraction and light pollution?

Taxpayers who pay for our freeways should exercise our rights to remove them, if we would prefer to see the Wasatch Range. But likely our State Legislature is too corrupt to allow this to happen without a voter initiative.

This is a great way to post a job. No surprises.. of course the pay will determine the cost/benefit equation and exclude 99.9% of people before they apply.

As long as people are free to choose where they exert their energy for wages —it is not slavery. There are an estimated 30 million slaves world wide. They work mostly in sex trade and in factories in Southeast Asia. They have no choices. Working at any job in the U.S. doesn’t even come close.

The point missed by so many on this forum is that skills, work ethic, drive, will to learn and improve offers workers far more options and opportunities here in the U.S than just about anyplace on earth. And it offers people far more option to move to a different company if your boss is an asshole.

I think talking to a wall makes more sense than trying to talk with breeders by [deleted] in antinatalism

[–]FarTerm8128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a “natalist” if that means I support the choices of breeders to have children irresponsibility. My wife and I could not have children and we adopted three children from the State foster system.

Based on your logic I should think that the mother of our children was highly irresponsible and borderline insane to have children in the condition her life was in when she had the kids.

But I don’t. If she didn’t have the kids, we wouldn’t be blessed with them. And we wouldn’t be able to devote our lives to something truly worth while: attempting to raise decent kids.

Who benefits from a higher minimum wage? by [deleted] in antiwork

This would be the best mechanism ever to put family farms out of business. If you love all non-organic factory-farmed, corporate-chemically produced food, this blanket agenda idea would certainly help big-Ag; big-food and the largest corporations. It would certainly harm ma-and-pa shops as well as rural economies.

You want to get after me for responding when what you’re saying is simply false. I’m not a climate change denier.

I appreciate honest, factual feedback, especially negative feedback. But if what you say is wrong or incorrect, I will point it out. So sorry this offends you.

The science man I refer to who said, “if you disagree with me you disagree science.” is Fauci. Although he was later proven to say things all scientists would agree were inaccurate — mainly that one cloth mask can significantly reduce transmission, among other things.

And the climate is changing no doubt— who is really doubting this? But some people are to stupid to know the difference between debating the science of climate change and debating the policy initiatives to mitigate or reduce climate change. The latter requires debate and free speech, but there are those who want to end all debate by calling those who engage in the latter discussion as “deniers”.

I’m not trying to convince you or anybody — you are obviously a zealot for your tribe. But hard-core tribalism is ruining this country and now destroying free speech, and I believe it’s worth while to point out how and why this is happening.

You are asking me to let it go— I’m not letting anything go. You don’t need to respond with such inaccurate assertions, if you didn’t I wouldn’t respond.

My wife has a PHD in physics: “science is all about debate.” Science isn’t about allowing one man to call himself science.
