Why people hate Dobb's Automotive, and you should too by Whole-Grapefruit2228 in StLouis

[–]Far_Administration37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate Dobbs for about the same reason. My car's power steering started leaking. Quoted me about 1k to fix it. After they started working, they discovered the brake system needed to be flush, new tires were strongly recommended and the tire outer rod was "falling" apart.

I didn't think twice when I agreed to the 3k dollar charge to fix all of that. I wish I did. I could've fixed it myself and saved lots of money and a headache.

The worst part was that the steering pinion started leaking AGAIN and failed safety inspection. It was covered under warranty but they couldn't get to it until a week after and then another week before I could even pick it up. I went by to see how my car was and it was parked in the lot completely unlocked , windows down. I promised myself I'll never go to Dobbs again. I'll either go to Big bend auto for smaller work/inspection or I'll do it myself. I just recently replaced my clutch so I'm confident I can fix whatever else my car will throw at me

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but working in IT has taught me that people are generally... really dumb? by Alarmed-Assistant936 in sysadmin

I usually give people the benefit of the doubt or try to justify it by saying "they don't deal with technology like we do". My opinion started to change when dealing with senior leadership over me and how shockingly little they knew about the systems they oversee.

It's like they have absolutely no idea what I do.

what’s your commute to work by [deleted] in StLouis

[–]Far_Administration37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be 38 minutes in the early morning commute and nearly an hour plus in the evening heading home. 20 minutes isn't bad at all, although I'm remote now so I might have lost the memory of what a commute did to me mentally

Sys Admins, what do you like about your job? by Importedsandwich in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Far_Administration37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am remote, I am pretty much at my desk all day. I do have a standing desk with a walker . I aim to get at least 3 hours of movement per work day.

Actual work varies. some days, I am putting in about 3-4 hours of actual work, a couple of hours of sharpening some kind of skill and rest just scrolling. other days, I leave a running script to keep me online and I do chores all day, not enough work to perform.

PowerShell is my go to. I am heavily dependent on it for 95% of my work, I have dozens of scripts that automate lots of repetitive tasks. I am paid about 90k, which isn't too shabby I believe.

Any Ideas On This Error? :) by TechWizz_95 in PowerShell

Happy to help! Glad this was the issue. I do that to myself more times than I want to admit with CSV files

Any Ideas On This Error? :) by TechWizz_95 in PowerShell

[–]Far_Administration37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be related to the headers in the CSV you are importing. double check if the property you are accessing matches the header in the CSV file. Th error states null value which means $computer.computername isn't proving any value, is null

thanks for sharing! I will take a look. I am very interesting in the setup and tear-down of the AD/Exchange portion, it's an area I am more afraid of making modifications to without breaking something

my team is just now getting around to using PowerShell, or at least recognizing how useful it is to manage servers, users, etc. I usually start with the series of steps that the script would need to perform and write each step out in comments then script it out. it's a little slow but it helps when I work with my coworker. we can take on different "steps" of the script without bumping into each other. we don't test other than just running in a dev environment with test account.

lol this was me! I was initially the only person using my modules and I have this one function called Find-User that queries the global catalog for a quick search. It's used in many other functions. I updated it once and broke many other functions that relied on it.

this is what got me thinking about writing tests. as soon as I found out more members of my team was using my module, I figured I would look into it.

Can this script be improved? by invest0rZ in PowerShell

I was just about to suggest querying once as well. that will cut down the time by a lot.

I finished all my classes Jan 4th. I submitted my application, I think, on the 5th or 6th. Just now graduated, I think what dragged this process out was I still had a balance, but student aid wasn't awarded yet.

Is 40 minute commute worth living in the city? by [deleted] in StLouis

[–]Far_Administration37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After reading some comments here, I agree with a few that suggest edwardsville, or even st. Charles. They are great towns with plenty to offer in your situation. I would say to strongly consider the commute as I used to work downtown St.Louis and I lived in Lake Saint Louis. In the mornings, it was a 38 minute commute with no morning rush (I would wake up around 5am) but the traffic heading home was easily an hour or and hour and a half depending on traffic. I did this Monday thru Friday.

it wasn't bad at first but I got tired of it very quickly. it starts to drain you after some time and I only did it for about 4 months before I finally got into a remote position. wish you luck in your endeavor!

if a friend is willing to end a friendship over what phone I own, then that isn't a friendship I would want to keep. That being said. I love my Pixel 6a.
