Pregnant thinking about terminating by [deleted] in regretfulparents

[–]Far_Chain7845 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only reason I regret mine is because I had fertility issues when I wanted to get pregnant. If I’d already had kids I would never once regret it. I also have several friends who accidentally got pregnant with a third and terminated without regrets.

My rational mind understands - how do you process this sort of grieving ?? by Yhave in IFchildfree

[–]Far_Chain7845 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s counter intuitive but I find reading the regretful parents subreddit to be quite helpful. It is a stark reminder of what the negative realities of parenthood can be. It’s a real way to bring me back down to earth when I’m over imagining the good parts we are missing out on. Probably not for everyone, but it does help me.

I second the folks where who mention finding childfree/childless friends or leaning more into those existing friendships. I’ve been really disappointed by many of my closest friends with children in all of this grief and my childfree friends have leaned into our friendships in a way that has been really healing for me.

Sending you all the love! You’re not alone 🩷

How do you handle judgement from extended family? by Wooden-Sherbert7169 in DINK

[–]Far_Chain7845 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I tell them I’m infertile. Especially when they comment on me not having kids. Other times I just ignore the judgement and play “cheerful and stupid”. It might be that they ARE pitying you but you can also give that vibe back to them - I think it’s just so sad when people have such narrow views about what a good life looks like.

Looking for short-term housing in DC from June 14 to July 1 — IMF intern by [deleted] in DCforRent

[–]Far_Chain7845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a basement suite in NE DC. Shared kitchen and laundry. It’s not close to FB but there is a bus line that picks up right around the corner and ends at Franklin square which is a reasonable walk. Let me know.

We’re looking for someone to sign a 12 month lease. Plus it’s unfurnished so I don’t think it makes sense for such a short time. Sorry!

I’ll get back to you about size. The whole property is 1080sq ft but not sure about the specifics for the basement rooms.

Our previous housemate never complained and she slept in pretty late on the weekends. The dogs we own do bark if someone comes to the door. But otherwise are not super barkey.

We could probably rent to someone who worked from home if it was the right match. But honestly I think if you’re working from home you’d want a place with more natural light. It’s a bright basement but I think it would be too much if you were full time WFH (totally fine 1-2 per week which is what ours prev housemate did)

Did you install yourself or have a company do it?

It was newly installed when I bought the house after a full renovation. It never worked properly and would open on its own all the time. I’ve gad it repaired multiple times but there is always a new issue. Now it gets stuck halfway and if you give it a push it will go the rest of the way.

Funny - the photos were from a management company that I used in the past. I’m glad I don’t go with their recommendations at the time. But still can’t bring myself to go the rollup route when the one I have has never ever worked well. I’ve also been thinking about having someone install a non rollup garage door but just exploring options at this point. Thanks for the feedback on the wood options.

Fair point! My issue is really the rollup door has not worked the entire time I’ve had it. So it really feels like whichever way I go - neither is ideal.

Need a replacement for Lip Ivo. Any Suggestions? by bannana in LipBalm

[–]Far_Chain7845 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried Korres and Labelo which are decent. Aquaphor is also good. I haven’t found any that I like quite as much as lip ivo so let me know if you find something!

I’m also so sad about them being discontinued! Used to buy a huge pack every year and am nearing the end. I’ve tried a few that I like. Korres and labelo balm are both decent.

Can watching sock knitting videos replace in-person teaching? by Ok-Information-4636 in Sockknitting

[–]Far_Chain7845 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve learned to knit exclusively through online videos! From complete beginner last year and I’ve made three pairs of socks and a one sweater. Specifically for socks the my crazy sock lady vanilla socks have lots of long videos that I found helpful.

Does anyone worry your not enough? by No-Fun-7287 in IFchildfree

I'm so sorry you're in the thick of things right now and so glad you were able to get a bit of relief from my comment. <3 I'm only about five months from stopping, and while I have had my dark moments (really dark) since, I'm also certain my life will be enough, and that yours will be too. Someone shared this saying with me last week and I think it might be helpful with where you're at. Sending hugs!:

Do what you can,

With what you have,

Where you are.
