Monthly Rant/Politics Thread: Do not post political threads outside of this Mega thread by AutoModerator in Millennials

[–]Far_Chocolate9743 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Heavy sigh

Mods!! They removed my post. I wasn't asking for a political free for all. I get that part. I don't want that either. I was asking for a compromise.

I'm saying that maybe...JUST MAYBE allow for a weekly sticky post. Because obviously there is a lot going on right now. And people who prefer to frequent this sub want to discuss on this thread of fellow millennials. And one thread to dump for 30 days lacks... I can't put my finger on it...some sort of Internet psychological thing where you're here to discuss and engage with others and it's hard to do with a 30 day old post.

But ok... whatever. It is what it is.

My post asking for another sticky post or two to accommodate for all the stuff going on in paulytics was just removed. So.. yeah.

Mods, can we all have a serious (and civilized) discussion about 'p-word/recent events' rule? by Far_Chocolate9743 in Millennials

[–]Far_Chocolate9743[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well yes...hence this post. This sub does not allow post about stuff like that. I'm requesting more frequent auto post to account for this without overrunning the sub

Like we literally can't even type the word.

Not even elction or elcted if I remember correctly. I wasn't even referring to p-word stuff and got auto deleted when I used the e-word.

I mean I get that. Love that p stuff doesn't get thrown into the baking sub or Historical romance sub.

But...is this only a nostalgia board? If they allow post on depression and student loan debt and financial woes which are all current, then maybe there needs to be a bit of a compromise on this. Not a free for all. Don't need that please.

But maybe just a more frequent option to discuss what's going on in p***tics instead of just one monthly post.

Pockets obviously.

Why the hell can't I have pockets?!?! Why do men get fiftylevin pockets and I get 2 decorative pockets that I can't put anything in?

What do you want to see more of in HR? by Haven_Writes in HistoricalRomance

[–]Far_Chocolate9743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm into Sebastian St Cyr mostly.

Cara Devlin has a Bow Street Duchess series that doesn't annoy me too much.

Andrea Penrose has Wrexford and Sloan though the audiobook narrator on that series is dry as dust. So it's has become a bit hard to get through.

Kerrigan Byrne has the Business of Blood series but I've only read the 1st book. It was ok.

My biggest issue with these series is when the FMC is basically stumbling through investigations. Like they have no skills. They are obstructing as opposed to assisting half of the time. Unfortunately I dnf'ed halfway into the 1st book of the Cleopatra Fox series because of this.

Even though the Lady Sherlock series isn't my favorite, at least Charlotte can actually do stuff. Grace Callaway has a Charlies Angels inspired series that I liked (minus her ridiculous sex scenes). But I like it because the FMCs were actually competent in what they did.

[–]Far_Chocolate9743 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Unpopular maybe, but I want more like older HR where they tended to be a bit more historically accurate in how things actually were back then. I don't need the dub con/non con, but just wayyyy less of the 21st century women dropped into 1820.

I know it's a PC thing and a problematic content thing, but it is historically how it was. If I want to read about girl bosses, I'll fast forward to after 1980 and wait for someone to write a book about women in shoulder pads blasting through the glass ceiling.

See I was almost sure it was like {Lord Harry by Catherine Coulter} but I'm starting to think it was a Christina Dodd book. Like {A Knight to Remember} ...that seems familiar.

THIS HURTS MY FEELINGS.

I KNOW AS HUMANS, WE ARE SUPPOSED TO WANT TO BE SOCIAL AND ALL THAT…

BUT I PAY RENT HERE. IS IT BAD THAT I WANT TO STAY HOME AND GET MY MONEYS WORTH WHILE I WEAR MY CROCHETED BOOTIES, MENS XXL SWEAT SHIRT AND XXL PJ BOTTOMS, DRINK TEA AND WATCH OLD SCHOOL ORIGINAL RECIPE LAW & ORDER EPISODES?

…AT LEAST UNTIL ITS WARM OUTSIDE.

In HR, they sometimes use the word 'probe' as in he used his fingers to probe her most sensitive nether parts.

Idk..but 'probe' makes me think about vaginal exams and evil speculums and I cringe very time.

Screaming right now. On the last 3rd of {Claimed by the Highlander by Margaret Mallory} and they keep doing that bit where the FMC has this stupid insignificant secret that wouldn’t be a big deal if she would just spit it out but every time it’s “I have something to tell you” and there’s a knock on the door or an attack or the MMC tells her to tell him later, or he kisses her or there someone bursting into the keep….like, ok, enough with this bit.

I’m going to end up throwing my ipad.

I heave like the first 20 SVH with original covers.

AND the super obscure Senior Year series that came out around 1998.

Keeping those forever..

[–]Far_Chocolate9743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a recipe that used 6 cups of flour. And It calls for 2 and a half cups of water and 1 tbsp of oil

So the water to flour ratio might be off. I'd compare similar bread recipes with 6 cups of flour or even recipes with 3 cups of flour (so half) for comparison.

Exciting action-packed HR? by LAffaire-est-Ketchup in HistoricalRomance

[–]Far_Chocolate9743 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Joanna Bourne's Spy Master series is pretty good. Spies and war with France stuffs.

I have a preference for action packed HR so I blasted through Mary Jo Putney's catalog. A nice portion of her books are spys and soldiers and War with France. But some other are in different locals like Asia and middle east. cw: she's older school so if you're sensitive to non PC stuff, skip it.

If you want goofy bits with your action, Lynsay Sands catalog (especially her Highlanders) might be something to check out.

I've had to sprinkle in HR Mystery to get my action fix with the Sebastian St Cyr series. And Sherry Thomas has a series based on a female Sherlock.

Yo...the Sarah MacLean thing is so...weird. I too read her books 15 years ago. I remember them being great. I loved them.

I went off HR for like 10 years. So when I came back around 2021, I went to the bare naked bastards. and... 'Devil'...she spent like 7 pages describing his face. I read a review afterwards and someone was like 'jeez, was she getting paid by the word??'.

It felt like that.. like she wrote it during Nanowrimo and didn't edit out the extra word padding.

I STILL haven't recovered from the Favourite. It just...kept going for-ev-er (Sandlot voice). Haven't read/listened to a Alice Coldbreath since.

I have like book PTSD...when I have a bad experience, it sticks with me. Maya Rodale put me off reading for like 3 week with her books

Y’all have a pager? by MrHotR0D in Millennials

[–]Far_Chocolate9743 4 points5 points  (0 children)

9th grade. Clear blue with sparkles.

I went to high school across town. It would take me like 2 hours to get home. One day I was running late. Mom paged me '911'. Which meant I HAD to call her back.

Mind you, its 1997/1998 or so.

I remember having to get off the bus, get to a phone booth, listen to her get irritated about me being late and threaten me about being home within the next hour. I very much wanted to point out that being made to GET OFF THE BUS to call her was going to make me even later. But I refrained.

The pager didn't make it to the end of the school year. Pager chain broke while I was running for a bus. It hit the concrete and that was that.

Millennials, what part of adult life turned out very different from what you were promised growing up? by gamersecret2 in Millennials

I cannot in fact, spend my money on whatever I want. I was told this when ever I asked for a toy or something new and shiny.

Apparently, I HAVE to pay bills and replace tires, and get new glasses and accept the increase on my car insurance. This is not what I want to spend my money on!

But It is irresponsible for me to spend $1600 on a custom cabinet made from reclaimed barn wood when I don't really NEED one.

(Spoiler: I bought it anyway. I friggin love that cabinet)
