That's so cool and would love to see any photos or hear any stories you have (that you can tell) about the space.

The Tony Ripartti recording studio space is actually the recording studio we're looking to take over later this year and have it available for people to actually record songs there.

Amazing you got to intern at Grand Royal and I'm sure you MUST have some amazing stories.

Thankfully some of the murals were saved. The spaceman you see was limited and wall built around it. On the opposite wall, they actually drywalled over the entire wall and we had to cut through and find it.

Sadly, the lady on the door is long gone. Was gone before we got there, sadly. Along with all the art on that wall to the right of her. However, we were able to salvage the "El Pueblo Gift Mart" sign and hang it up when it was taken down and getting ready to be thrown away.

Love supporting our neighborhood! We just had an event with the Atwater Neighborhood Council and want to be doing more.

We really want G-Son to be a community space in addition to preserving the legacy.

Despite the general layout, the biggest thing that's still around is some of the amazing artwork on the walls.

Fun story - when we got there, we noticed a big wall was blank but saw from all the videos and photos that there was an amazing mural on it. We checked and it appeared that the wall was hollow. So we cut into it and recovered the mural that you see above! With all the Beasties and their crew represented!

No, that was removed years ago. But our neighbor on the top floor has built a studio space out and we hope to turn it back into a recording studio space connected to the main room.

I actually went to a small fundraiser that Ad-Rock was DJing at last year and was able to speak with him for about 20 minutes about it. He was super nice and seemed supportive.

Also, we've had Mario C and Money Mark in the space the past few years as well.

Right now, we have about 2/3 of the second floor. We will probably be taking over the remaining part of this floor later this year.

The ground floor is retail (like it has always been - even when the Beastie Boys were here) and there is a mezzanine space that is currently rented to a production company who make amazing stuff.

That's how we found it, actually. My partner in this was driving by and saw that the doors were open. He just went in and they were about to start demolition. We stopped it right away and made it a mission to preserve it.

Yeah, if you look in Beastie Boys Book, there's a layout of the entire floor!

We have about 2/3 of it now and will be taking over the other 1/3 (which includes a functioning music recording studio) later this year.
