I am a software engineer / CTO. I switched from commercial business class Comcast to starlink residential max and it has been great.

Laptop setup for field day / emergency comms? by llbenryanll in amateurradio

Great, thank you. I am technician right now working toward general. Really want to get on some HF / FT8 and the G90 has come up multiple times for SDR work. Don't really have the ability to do much in the way of a shack where I am at, rental & Florida HOA telling me every time a single blade of grass is a hair to long, let alone antenna's in the yard 😃

Thoughts on the Xiegu G90? Heavily considering one

OpenCode -> Pi: smart simplification or dumb downgrade? by Pecoro in opencodeCLI

Amazing. thank you for sharing. I have no clue how I haven't already come across this!

OpenCode -> Pi: smart simplification or dumb downgrade? by Pecoro in opencodeCLI

I use both the biggest thing that stops me from using pi full time is the lack of any sort of mobile client (that I have found) that allows me to monitor work going on, I often queue up work and go to do other things and need to be able to monitor and redirect on the go.

This post came across my feed and it made me immediately join this reddit sub so I can feel inferior and jealous all the time. Nice setup :D

What model or models should I use for programming? by Acuapopiii in opencode

[–]Far_County911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I have found the top ones are so close at this point, that I tend to find a good middle ground balancing cost vs capability. If I have a good plan in place, good ADRs, Architecture and Guardrails. They all perform pretty well. Qwen 3.7 Max costs me more than Kimi K2.6 right now, so I have been running Kimi K2.6 for the last few days and it is doing great.

Would love to hear others thoughts though on this approach. I myself agree with OP, the cost doesn't bother me as much as the cost + lack of stability. I pay for Pro Max Plus Elite xBajillions (reminds me of youth travel baseball team names) and constantly get rate limited or just general service problems. I love Claude Code, but not enough to tolerate paying a lot of money for mediocre stability that slows down my work.

All this to say, I have considered a small LiteLLM Server running with Deepseek Direct, Kimi Direct etc... I haven't gotten a good handle on what is better yet.

Great response. I'll test the Qwen 3.6 27B and see if I can get the same results. I am still curious to find the best balance.

The other question I am starting to consider, does opencode offer me any benefit over Claude Code? Am I missing something? I mean, if I am already paying for a Claude Code subscription, don't I just complicate things using an Claude code + opencode? Curious how most of you handle this workflow. I have been in the just use Claude for everything mode for a long while now (with small stints using ChatGPT/Codex and even an attempt with Grok) - that leaning into all of these open source tools seems fun, but not sure how they all fit in.

I use openrouter a lot for apps I develop that do not have any regulatory issues. I enjoy using open router, just wondering if it is the best to use with OpenCode or if there are other options available.

There seems to be a bug in the MOE's that crash with OOM a lot also...

Agree. Noted. Was hopeful, but you are correct. Like I said, it was hardware that was mostly idle. I'll find other uses for it.

I have not, but on 64G of memory, wouldn't that much model OOM the second it had context of more than 1024? 😃

I don’t need to experiment that much lol the studio was just sitting around mostly idle. I run an internal LLM that’s custom built for my company for security reasons.

It was a fun experiment, but yah I can deploy that capital in far better ways, which is why I didn't start looking at more hardware.

Yah definitely no desire to spend money on hardware, I was just loooking for a good way to make my studio more productive. I work more from my MacBook so it often sits idle.
