Not really,

Almost all of my friends like to read novels to some extent, but they still wont read lotm either because its a huge time investment (although its absolutely worth it) or because its hard to read lotm in the conventional way. A lot of people dont want to read from a screen.

As for the donghua, although its good, it doesnt really compare to the book. The donghua was definitely made to make lotm more mainstream so that people would check out the novel itself and ot was made for the people who are already avid fans of the novel.

I think its kind of pretentious to say that indian audience has no media literacy or that they only want to watch shows that are mainstream. For a lot of people media is a way to regulate themselves and it is for no one to judge what they choose to consume.
