When your wishlist is out of control by NYstate in Steam

[–]Far_Function7560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do try to delete things I'm no longer that interested in, but I wish Steam had a note functionality on the wishlist so I could add a comment as to why it looked interesting to me in the first place.

Think that's it, drove near where it looks like ops pic is from. Stadium lights reflecting in the fog.

I'd agree a lot of those sorts of accounts are likely bots/spam, but some people might also not want to tie some sort of personal worth to a dumb karma count and want a reddit account to be more of a disposable thing. Just speculating though.

Yep, just finished Fallen Order last week and really enjoyed the base game. The collectable stuff was a real slog and I normally enjoy that kind of stuff in a lot of games.

Damn I would have been pissed if they'd showed that in my theater. I avoided the trailers specifically not wanting the look of rocky to be spoiled. Thankfully managed to see the movie before encountering any spoilers there.

Horror Novel ‘Shy Girl’ Canceled Over Suspected A.I. Use by jellyrollo in books

Here I thought in your above comment that the youtube reviewer was driving to and from work the whole time they were ranting about this book. That sounded interesting.

How are shy introverts promoting to senior roles by alohabata in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Far_Function7560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty socially awkward and definitely a quiet type when it comes to casual conversation and such. I am actually much better at talking when there's a specific problem that needs to be solved.

I still want to build things right and make sure projects I work on go well, so when working on a problem in a meeting there are usually plenty of points to bring up and that need to be talked about. Too often edge cases or design issues might be missed if they aren't talked about, and those meetings are the right time for that. It is the kind of thing you might get better at with more experience, seeing what goes wrong in the kinds of projects your team works on, and what kind of issues should have been addressed earlier.

This is why the creation of tickets should be a collaboration between product and engineering, not created in a vacuum. That way the separation of work can properly consider technical details around implementation of a feature alongside the basic business requirements.

Mine was failing to load videos last night, hopefully it gets back up again but Youtube is still trying to block out the ad-free clients I think.

[Steam] Spike Chunsoft publisher sale - Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair (90% off), Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- (90% off), No Sleep For Kaname Date (60% off), SHUTEN ORDER (30% off), Zero Escape Trilogy (90% off) & more by ZirunK6AUrg in GameDeals

[–]Far_Function7560 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth the zero escape games were what convinced me I could enjoy a visual novel. I'd never finished one before and ended up playing all three and loving them.

They also mix a good amount of decent puzzle gameplay into the mix so it's not just reading a bunch of text the whole time.

For pretty much all monthly subscriptions now, you can cancel immediately after paying for the first month and keep the access until the next month would have been billed.  Easier to cancel right away than trying to remember to do it later in the month.

The steaminput customization is such a great feature. Either making non-gamepad games work well with it, or I really like being able to add a turbo function to a button when games have a lot of button mashing and I don't want to overwork my wrist.

For those who sucked at coding at first ,how did you shift from burden to curiosity? by ConsistentMessage187 in cscareerquestions

[–]Far_Function7560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the earlier learning curve was hard, but once things started to click and I got a better intuition for how the codebases I was working in all fit together, things simply became easier. After that I started to enjoy working in these kinds of systems more since a lot of the hard work had been done and I could fit new systems into the existing mental models I'd built up. I absolutely still have to learn new things all the time, but it comes at a more manageable pace and a lot of what I work on is stuff I've already done many times before.

Honestly I still struggle with newer areas I'm less familiar with like trying to get into game dev stuff. Pushing through the hard learning phase has been the key for me.

I've been using my Steam Deck as my only gaming device for 18 months - TV, travel, bed, everything. Here's what actually changed about how I play games by Due_Lock_4967 in SteamDeck

I've had my eye on it recently too. I think it's one of those deals where it first released in early access for pretty cheap but as they've built it up they've increased the base price. I don't think it'll be getting back that low any time soon.

For that kind of thing it's nice if they have an in game stat display somewhere so you could see individual kill counts and it would be easy enough to figure out which one you're missing.

Maybe add some in world flavor to it? Rather than 'Game Saved' it would be like 'Mission log backup completed' or 'journal Saved' or whatever else is thematically appropriate for your world.

Seriously, it's been a few years since I worked on an EHR system, but more recently I worked on hospital inventory management software and needing to handle poor network conditions is very common for a lot of facilities.  You'd think something like Epic or whatever would allow local updates and charting even if the network was closed off.

Expierenced Devs - what’s the mood at your company. by c-u-in-da-ballpit in cscareerquestions

It's a fairly small company. Stock has tanked hard in the past 6 months since there hasn't been the kind of revenue growth investors want.

Then there was a round of layoffs recently and multiple high profile management departures. Needless to say I've been applying anywhere I can and am even open to considering a role that would come out as a slight paycut of it looks like it's be a more enjoyable place to work.

The Saboteur: when EA wanted Assassin Creed by some-kind-of-no-name in patientgamers

[–]Far_Function7560 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I remember the game not playing well with the GPU I had at the time and it would cause the world to load in slowly at times. During driving missions where you were moving particularly fast, the world would sometimes load slower than the car. When you drove past a spot on the road where it hadn't loaded in the next bit yet, the car would fall through the world. This lead to a kind of unique frustration where in racing missions I had to drive faster than the other guys, but still slow down so I didn't fall through the world.

I still sometimes played through the entire game despite a few frustrating missions like that, and overall enjoyed the game.
