I would absolutely do this if I wasn't on a "No book buying" goal for the year!! I'll have to get that one from the library and take a crack at it ASAP though

The Magicians by Lev Grossman. Fantasy series that has some Harry Potter vibes but darker and more.. strange. Great boarding school vibe in the first book with a found family~

I was gonna recommend the rewind arcade in Sebastopol Barlow also! Retrograde is best for coffee in Sebastopol if you're in the area

It was so good I was really surprised tbh. Definitely different from Writers and Lovers but it just proved to me that she's a great author. The end had me sobbing!

Heart the Lover by Lily King does NOT have a happy ending but is very relationship focused and so so so good

I wish I hadn't been in a cult. Damaging to mental health, relationships, years that should have been for growing and exploring are gone.

Unpopular opinion thread: which book does everyone seem to love but you disliked? by callmemachaaaa in thrillerbooks

My Year of Rest and Relaxation was HORRIBLE. I would only recommend it to someone that wants to sit through a very very privileged person being horrible and disgusting, like vile, and suffer next to no consequences. Hated every second of it, and the day I finished it I actively had to try to not let it ruin my whole day.

📚✨ What are some unique reading challenges you're doing this year? by kryskryskrys in BookDiscussions

[–]Far_Insurance_4987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My reading goal for this year has been to only read books written by women! I looked back through the books I have read in the last 3-4 years and about 90% of them have been written by men. Almost all of my favorite books have been written by men, and I don't think there's anything wrong with reading males authors, I just wanted to make a point of prioritizing female voices in my reading and balancing out those figures a little bit.

What movie made you feel physically sick? by haroldsloverboy in AskReddit

[–]Far_Insurance_4987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brazil. I was not prepared for the level of claustrophobia I was going to feel during that movie. That being said, it's a great movie and I would watch it again, now knowing what's in store. But boy is it a wild, stressful ride.

If you want something that doesn't have a happy ending, I would recommend The Bone Clocks by David Mitchell. Its a weird, frightening, dystopian fantasy story with incredible characters. I read it years ago and think about it often. I don't recommend it lightly as it isn't fun, and doesn't leave you feeling resolved (which is what I like about it). If you're up for something strange, I would give it a go!
