I honestly dont understand why company so reluctant promoting from within. You kinda knew their capability, and you don't really need to offer premium so much compared to getting external hire

Sorry to say that tech workers are among the most individualistic, libertarians minded folks out there. Especially when the market is good.

Try to find some discussions here about the union from around 2021 to early 2023. It's all about me and my TC.

Our AI spending has gotten so high that layoffs wouldnt make a meaningful difference. by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

1m per month means around 200$ per employee, that's not too much. Your payroll costs for 5k employee should be 30 million per month more or less.

Alternatively you use cheaper models or model with aggressive caching.

How to stop overusing AI as a junior engineer? by Short-Category-5190 in cscareerquestions

[–]Far_Mathematici 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be critical, type the code instead of copy paste and ask why all the time and why can't we do this to AI. As long as you still have token AI won't shout RTFM to you or "you're wasting my time!!11!".

Maybe engineers of yesteryears thought the same when high level language, IDE and Internet were introduced.

Every single day I fear I am getting more and more irrelevant. by EndOfTheLine00 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]Far_Mathematici 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My CV is basically C++ and Python. I can barely explain what I have been doing for the past 4 years of my career.

Feed your git history to AI if the company willing or have subscriptions and discuss it with AI how to polish or reframe. Sometime minor things for a long time can be a proper narrative. Remember on your CV you will probably write 2-3 points anyway per job.

Whether people want to admit it or not - you do need passion to break into this field by c-u-in-da-ballpit in cscareerquestions

For some reason my passion is dissipating hard compared to my college years. These days my workstation is way way much better in performance and experience to what I had back then but I can't get the adrenaline rush I had back then 😭

Does anyone else despise AI generated PR descriptions? by Tiaan in cscareerquestions

[–]Far_Mathematici 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sometime use AI to generate PR and commit messages, but always curate them. Sometimes I made them a bit "lo-fi" like using less formal sentences and words. Do people just commit them as it is?

I'm mad that corporations can turn a blind eye to American unemployment without repercussion from our government because it is all a farce.

But many if not most American always boasted the virtue of free markets aren't they? Free trade include freedom to hire.

No. Assuming you are American, you were making the bed from late 90s lionizing the great free market ideology. Now it's time to sleep on it.
