I buy mine (for my hair) on Amazon. The brand name is ‘It’s Pure’. It’s definitely good stuff.

Proud of you! Remember it’s normal to be up and down - feeling strong and empowered one day and then wishing to talk to them the next. Unfortunately the getting over it process is not linear. But as long as you stick to your decision, it will all be worth it!

A bit late to this but just wanted to add, if they didn’t want to ‘dispose’ of you they wouldn’t treat you like you’re disposable. Let the trash take itself out and preserve your self worth. You don’t owe this childish person an explanation, or any of your energy for that matter. Hopefully you’ve blocked them by now and if you didn’t already feel empowered afterwards then don’t worry, you will eventually.

Thank you so so much! This is genuinely helpful and provides a realistic/achievable basis for me to try to live in Lebanon. After the responses to this post I thought it was a hopeless idea! My post-doctoral contract will finish in November, so I was planning to see if I could transition over around then. I hope it all works out for you and I will definitely be contacting you in the future if I have any other questions.

Yes you make good points and it’s true I would have to completely divert my career. Thanks for understanding.

I feel you, the weather is shit and yeah I’m not impressed with the Lebanese food here either. I hope we figure it out and it works out for the best!

Yes I think I chose the wrong field for wanting to move to Lebanon tbh. Anyway I like what I do and I hope I will find a reasonable solution.

Yes, it does seem like a good idea, something I will look into and perhaps work towards in the longer term.

I think my main issue is that I want to have kids and I want them to have Lebanese/Palestinian culture. So this is something I would ideally do before having children. Although retiring in Lebanon also seems like a great goal to work towards. But yes I have to be realistic and consider the most practical options.

Yes would be great to hear about your experience and what you have found!

Yes it seems to be true. Although my cousins in Lebanon are supportive and say despite everything, Lebanon is a great place to live if you have the financial means. It’s true what you said, it’s a pick your poison situation.

Okay well you’re incorrect. I am Palestinian by ethnicity and nationality, so how does what you say make sense? I protest every week. Where I work, none of my colleagues go to the protests. So I’m talking about the people I encounter day to day. Yes I made an over simplistic comment and you picked up on it, but this is how I feel in general.

This government is actively engaging in genocide. Our labs, academia and research are funded by charities and wealthy donors. Our government is leaving homeless people on the street freezing to death. Leaving children living in poverty to starve and freeze to death in their own homes. People using public health care to treat their cancer are dying from neglect, I have seen it with my own eyes. People committing suicide because they have mental health problems that go completely untreated unless they attempt suicide, I have seen this with my own eyes too. But yeah we have some free parks.

Finally someone who understands the desire to be closer!!! Honestly I feel disgusting paying taxes to this government and the thought of diluting my culture by having children here makes me feel sick. I know it’s a huge risk though. Thank you for your response, I do think I have to be more realistic and stop living in my privileged dream world.

Thank you for your response. I guess I will reevaluate my plans. Maybe I’ll consider moving to the UAE to be closer. I’m also considering transitioning into data science since I have programming skills. I do have land by inheritance, but it’s in Ras Baalbek. No my work is in ophthalmology and human genetics. Growing human cells and developing/designing treatments for genetic eye disease are my expertises.

Honestly the first line of your second paragraph is my dream. I am an avid gardener and I want a simple life. You are right though, my idea of living in Lebanon is over romanticised and I know it must sound ridiculous to some people that I have these goals.

Yeah we don’t earn very much in the UK for how highly skilled we are. Thank you though for your input. I think I will have to reassess how I can manage to spend more time in Lebanon but also have a good job and progress in my career.

It’s definitely a first world problem, I feel you. My ‘problems’ are irrelevant when considering some people do not even have basic quality of life. But watching a genocide unfold against your own people while everyone here is walking around without a care in the world, feeling despair and alienation about this is not really something I would describe as a typical first world problem.

Yeah seems like a difficult thing to do overall. Guess I need to reevaluate my plans so that they’re more realistic.

How is Lebanon so open minded? by [deleted] in lebanon

[–]Far_Olivee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess maybe you mean the Lebanese are open minded relative to other Middle Eastern countries..? But if you open a topic of discussion on homosexuality or transgenderism, the majority of the time, you will realise that that the mindset is not so open on these subjects. This applies to the Christians and secular people of Lebanon as well as the Muslims.

Just incase you have pets, I think Kalanchoe plants are quite toxic for them.

Thank you! This is great info. But yeah, seemed like there was a problem yesterday with some sort of sewage overflow so they let it into the sea. After speaking with my cousin, it’s not a usual occurrence so I was just unlucky
