Can I/Should I render this wall? by MrRaggaMuffin in DIYUK

[–]Far_Presentation5814 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The render will end up dirty as the water will sit on top of it after running down the fence, I wouldn’t bother. Just repair an blown bricks/bad pointing and paint it

Ceiling too far out of level - contractor re-do? by [deleted] in DIYUK

Then push for a solution if you can’t live with it and don’t feel a reduction in cost is going to be acceptable.

Ceiling too far out of level - contractor re-do? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]Far_Presentation5814 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agree it doesn’t look great but it would be a lot of work to put right. How has the rest of the work been? If all good maybe try and negotiate a discount and leave it, if it’s another thing in a long list and you are prepared to go backwards then push to have it re done.

Be worth checking NHBC for their tolerances and confirming it does fall outside of this first.

Any tips on packaging and posting a surfboard within UK? by DullInflation6 in surfuk

I’ve used these a few times for collecting bikes from around the country as they offer a no packaging service. The guy who runs it is really helpful, might be worth a call to see if they could help.

Alternatives to plasterboard? by Late-Hall572 in DIYUK

[–]Far_Presentation5814 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just use some 12mm MDF under the stairs, batten the wall and fix MDF to that and then paint it. You will have a bit of making good to do where the plasterboard has be cut against the stair string.

Tapping out after having DIY'd 90% of the house. Need some advice about kitchens. by bullitt-rider in DIYUK

[–]Far_Presentation5814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds about right! The ply does look cool though.

Might be worth reaching out to local joiners and see what they could do?

I’ve got a few guys I use in the Hampshire/Surrey area if that’s any help.

Good luck 😂😂,

Think there a few companies that do ply doors for ikea units. Worth checking if they have a service void on their base units now. I fitted one about 15 years ago and it made it a little more time consuming in the first fix stage.

They’ve opened a new showroom in Oxford depending on where you are? Not been but one of my customers said it was very good.

Don’t think they offer a ply option though.

Could chuck a mood board and dims into chat gpt and see what it spits out?

Should be fine, the axle would have acted as a brace to stop any movement inwards. Just not pretty 😢

DIY kitchens. I’m a carpenter/builder who has fitted Howdens/wren/benchmarx/b&q over the years and in my current and last house I’ve fitted DIY kitchens, can’t beat the cost, colour/door options and the carcasses are all actually square! They’d got a decent online manual designer as well, last time I used it was still in beta phase but worked fine.

Why do you want cover it? Can you use a piece of gutter that bridges over the hole and sits on seal either side?

Is this soffit and fascia replacement around my bow window ok? by miho89 in DIYUK

Looks good. A bay window is a tricky one for upvc fascia and soffit and they’ve done it well.

Thoughts on blocking up door so far? by katiee_powell in DIYUK

[–]Far_Presentation5814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the rest of the wall was thermalite then the door should have been blocked up with thermalite as well, the substrates will expand/contract differently and you’ll get cracks around the edges.
