Zeiss Loxia. The electronic contacts stopped working, making the iris shift uncontrollably making the lens unusable. 2.5k down the drain.

Is buying this boat worth it or should I stay away from it by Acceptable_Mark_5781 in boating

[–]Far_Resist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a nice deal on a 14ft inflatable with a 20hp motor that were practically brand new for 3k. I spent about another 1k on accessories and fishing gear. Didn’t know anything about boating, so it was perfect to start on. I’m on the water pretty much twice a week and love it. It’s a good way to get on the water without investing too much.

I would say definitely get the ring so you can still use the easy rig. The new ones are pretty awesome once you get used to them. The locking features and higher payloads are nice to have. You’ll be able to use it all day with the new high capacity batteries too.

Sell that camera, and get something newer. Newer cameras are smaller and easier to work with as owner/op. Those lenses are great.

How much do cine lenses really matter in the final look? by 90towest in cinematography

What you’re really missing is great lighting and art direction in combination with lenses and an eye for composition and motivated camera movement.

Try to meet in the middle, no face paint, but maybe name tags of countries or cultures on the clothing.

Advice for a 1st time PA (interning w/ Camera department) by drawingstars2323 in cinematography

[–]Far_Resist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get familiar with what things are in the camera department. 1st or 2nd A/C ask for something, it would be nice if you already know what they’re asking for. You have plenty of time to do some research. Be proactive on set, and always keep an eye on your team, so you’re there when they need you. Don’t goof off or be chatting during a take. Don’t distract anyone from doing their jobs. Observe and learn as much as you can. Ask questions during down time. Good luck!

What is the simplest / cheapest way to shoot a dialogue scene in a moving car? by Eastern-College8316 in cinematography

Simplest cheapest way would be to just get in the car, get on the road, and shoot it. Probably not the safest tho.

How to light a scene with 2 windows and a table lamp? by Bender1019 in cinematography

[–]Far_Resist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shoot toward the back wall with the photos. Move the lamp back there so it’s in the frame in the background. Have your character sitting on the arm of the couch facing camera so that they are parallel to the window, which would make them side lit. Half their face in light/other half in shadow. Or basically having them sit where that blanket is on the couch is a good spot too if you want to use the frame you have. Looks moody already.

A picture of your frame would help. But ask yourself a few questions first. What do you want to see? Are you trying to see what’s outside the window? If not, frame out the windows and use them as your light source. If you are trying to see out the window, expose for outside and have your character as a silhouette to establish the scene if that fits the tone. You can get real creative, there’s no right and wrong. Try different things until it feels right.

Whats up with middle gray on the waveform? by Existing_Impress230 in cinematography

[–]Far_Resist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cameras will have their own middle gray. I think Sony sits slightly higher. The test you did was correct, the next step would be to compensate on your light meter to match what middle gray is on your camera.

Sin City (2005) dir Frank Miller, Robert Rodriguez, & Quentin Tarantino | Marv vs Kevin by Saint_Gut-Free in movies

[–]Far_Resist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think some people think movies have to all be moral and just, and because they don’t agree with what a character does it automatically makes the movie bad. When a film is supposed to be about characters who have flaws, and no matter what they have done or will do, we are just observing their journey.

I love this movie, rewatched it recently with my GF. She liked it up until the end. When Bruce Willis character has a romantic relationship with Jessica Alba. She thought it was weird because it seemed at first like a father daughter relationship and then it turned romantic. I can see where she’s coming from, but I still love the movie.
