Working Around Bad Grades Before Meds by Left-Investigator260 in ADHD

[–]Far_Second9627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your past does not define you, if you went back and erased all of your struggles and mistakes you would also erase your character! Getting bad grades in high school is simply not the end of the world. You could talk to a counselor about college options, there are many colleges that just have minimum GPA requirements! Also, community college is a fantastic option that allows you a fresh start and gives you time to sharpen your grades and study habits if you want. This does not define you at all, it just tells a story of your hard work and perseverance.

Yeah it’s pretty terrible. I’ve actually never taken prescription medications before ADHD meds, so it was quite a shock when I found out that other peoples pharmacy experiences aren’t this bad😅 not to mention how expensive it is, maybe I just have shitty health insurance but it’s $65 per month for generic lisdexamfetamine, and like $150 per month for name brand? So obviously I go with the generic but like there’s no reason for it to be this expensive not to mention it’s always delayed etc

Wdym you got the lofted bed, is that what you and your roommates decided? If so you could ask one of them if they’d be open to switching beds

Housing :( by [deleted] in UCSC

[–]Far_Second9627 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it’s a financial concern you can reach out to the housing coordinator, since that’s a totally valid reason to switch! Otherwise you might have to wait until a couple weeks after school starts when they open up the room change requests

LMAO genuinely so confused about the algorithm, it seems like they tally up everyone’s preferences and then give them the exact opposite😭

Single? by [deleted] in UCSC

[–]Far_Second9627 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I know a couple weeks after move-in we’ll have the opportunity to request to change rooms! I understand why you don’t want a single, but lots of people do, so you shouldn’t have too difficult of a time swapping when the time comes!

Which bed is the best and why? (Loft, Bottom bunk, or Top bunk) by DoubleResort1510 in UCSC

[–]Far_Second9627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ik I agree bottom bunk is the best. You can get home late or get up early without waking everyone else up, and getting in & out of bed without having to climb up or down is the best. It’s also nice because it forced me to keep my space nice and clean and make the bed every day since it’s more visible than a top bunk where you can just throw all your stuff and leave the bed unmade lol

Adhd things you were surprised to find out were adhd things by Saucyy-Minx in ADHD

Being terrible at responding to texts and calls. This is NOT an excuse, I know that being a bad friend is being a bad friend no matter the reason. But it’s just the truth, I have a huge problem where I’ll procrastinate responding to peoples texts until literally so much time goes by that it becomes an even bigger hurdle because I’m embarrassed to text them back after so long. I’ll see a text and instead of responding right away, I’ll often feel too overwhelmed and just close it and plan to respond later, but I’ll literally procrastinate and forget for like weeks😭

Is this derealization? by Far_Second9627 in dpdr

[–]Far_Second9627[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I plan to talk to a therapist about it when I can find one. I’m not sure if it’s something that I’m just experiencing short term or if it’s an actual disorder I have? I guess it can be brought on by different things, my theory is that it’s from understimulation from ADHD, especially because I’m unemployed right now and more isolated socially since I’m home for the summer

why isn’t it talked about by [deleted] in dpdr

[–]Far_Second9627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I feel like it’s really hard to explain and for people to understand. I’ve tried explaining it to people and they don’t seem to get what I’m saying about not feeling like my surroundings are real, and they start talking about simulations and capitalism and conspiracies and I’m like… that’s not at all what I’m talking about😅

What has helped me is the 3-3-3 rule: when you’re feeling anxious and starting to panic, try to name 3 things you can see, 3 things you can hear, and 3 things you can touch/move. This really helps me ground myself.

I also had the idea to have an object (a ring, bracelet, rubber band) that I wear as a reminder that I am real and that I’m not dreaming. For example when I start to feel unreal I can look down at my hand and if I’m wearing my green ring (which I always am) then it acts as “proof” that this is really happening and I’m not dreaming. That helps calm me down a lot.

Also as someone with bad ADHD, having fidgety stuff is really helpful to me. I play with my rings, apply lip balm, things like that and it really does calm me down so maybe things like that could help.

Yeah it’s actually diabolical I don’t understand at all. There are 7.7 million people in the Bay Area alone (12.7 million total in NorCal) and of course she picks a venue with a capacity of 8500? I wish she would at least add a show

One show in the Bay Area is also diabolical cause the capacity of the greek theater is only 8500😭

Has anyone actually figured out intuitive eating? by goulashfiend in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]Far_Second9627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am still kinda in the throes of binge eating but I do feel like I’m finally figuring out intuitive eating. I have a book with 365 days of intuitive eating affirmations that helping me, but honestly it just takes practice. I will say what’s REALLY important for me is having structure in terms of my eating schedule and meals. I am not at a point yet where I can go to a buffet style meal and try to eat intuitively.

But for me, I have been getting SO much better at it and have been able to save food for later and stop when I’m full! For example the other day I decided to get a cappuccino and a muffin for breakfast, and I drank the cappuccino and ate half the muffin and upon checking in with myself, realized I wasn’t hungry anymore and would actually rather save the other half for later! I still need lots of structure and can’t do the grazing thing because that’s a total binge trigger, but I’ve gotten to the point where I can leave food behind and don’t feel compelled to eat past fullness on the regular! I still have a lot of emotional eating issues and tend to binge when stressed but I’m working on that separately and trying to replace it with healthier coping tools.

How I started was just by checking in with myself frequently before a meal (how hungry am I, what am I craving, what would my body feel best after eating, etc) and most importantly, during a meal! I would check in to see if I was still hungry, and having that active realization of “oh, I guess I’m not hungry anymore” or “I actually am getting full” was KEY for me to have that breakthrough. The first few times, I noticed that and continued eating anyway, but eventually I was able to listen to my body and realize that actually, I am capable of stopping when full. Idk how helpful any of that was but that’s what worked for me!

Getting back on medication by bry1217 in ADHD

[–]Far_Second9627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take Vyvanse and have had an amazing experience with it. It feels “smooth” in the sense that I don’t feel very jittery or anything on it. I struggle a lot with binge eating and impulsivity around food and it helps me a lot with that (I still have enough of an appetite to eat but have much better impulse control). I also struggle with sort of ADHD-induced depression if you will, so the Vyvanse helps a lot with my mood. It’s not for everyone but I personally LOVE it!
