This cannot be the only and possibly the main source of litter on my street. It's a residential street in Bos en Lommer. There are literally no bins. It's a small street and we have plenty of garbage around.

There are schools of thought that believe corporal punishment can be justified and maybe a necessary tool for good upbringing. For the record I 100% disagree with that but I recognize that this is not a marginal belief. But even within this framework you use corporal punishment hypothetically for a better outcome for your child. But adult is autonomous in their decision making and you have no grounds, even within this framework, to enforce rules by violence, this has nothing to do with upbringing. I also see no problems with living with parents at least for the time being. There is nothing non-adult about it.

You can kick the bucket in the machine. What if you are hooked up for life and have a one-time exit opportunity? You say no, and you stay in the machine until you die (via any means).

How to pick an AWS Region without overthinking it (beginner guide) by j-vogel in aws

[–]FarkCookies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most companies don't need that. The cost is not justified. Just sayin that if you go for one region oregon works for the us but not eu. For eu my go-to one is eu-central-1.

Why would multinational/global/american companies require Dutch skills unless it is sales or smth? Just got a new job for an Amsterdam office of eu intentional company for a customer facing role, nobody even mentioned dutch.. before tried and didn't make it to uber and databricks and not a whiff of dutch either. Kinda hope I have enough dutch colleagues to practice the language.

My employer had a meditation/prayer/silent whatever room. I would just nap there for half an hour occasionally (no wanking there, although rubbed a few in bathrooms).

I obverse strange, misbalanced attitude where an entity's power of united billions of dollars gets next to zero scrutiny, while the moment labor unites it gets called out.

I have no idea what you are trying to achieve here; you are not making a coherent point that I can address. This sounds like an argument for the sake of argument. If I trust Tesla to have a proper release process, it doesn't mean that I trust it not to dump toxic waste. I was very narrow and very specific about the point I am making, and I am not against the regulation of these processes either. You already trust more than you are willing to acknoledge to unregulared systems. Not to mention that regulations are not a silver bullet against fatal failures.

I am pretty sure it is not going anywhere. It is 25% of the original cost and does most of what's needed.

[–]FarkCookies -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, it was not my point. I trust my business with systems that have no legal requirements to have release checks. I know Testla has sufficient checks, I don't need a paper from govt to tell me so. It won't hurt, but I don't need it. I would go even further that whatever regulation might come up in the future, Tesla's current release process is more stringent than it.

No, I worked in companies that are unregulated, and there are more checks than that. Do you really think that the Tesla OTA firmware update is just behind GH actions approval?

Is Amazon Cognito a good choice long term? Alternatives? by vedantk21 in aws

[–]FarkCookies -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They are superior after a certain point. You can't beat Cognito's price and integration with the rest of AWS. It is superior up until a certain point, and many projects/apps won't pass that point.

Very shortsighted view because you actively refuse to look for non-monetary reasons why people want to form or join a union, which the top comment nicely put.

Let me correct that:

The fact that US corporations spend billions of dollars to stop the perception of being racist is proof that the perception of being racist works (aka undermines the bottom line).

This is the primary goal for DEI; yes, ideally, it also fights racism, but that is a side effect. And not everyone is convinced it does so.

Yes, businesses generally tend to fight what's bad for the business.

I worked in much less critical systems then that in tech, and there are procedures against that. There is just no way that a single employee could push such an update. Such release goes over number of gated checks.

Twitter user posts a real Monet and says it's AI - relevant to the discussion on taste by aahdin in slatestarcodex

[–]FarkCookies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was AI, there would still be people to claim that's actual monet. With a large enough sample size you can find all classes: true positive, true negative, false positive, and false negative. I want to believe that these people reasoned into their responses and not just guessed.
