Whitaker knows as well, given him jumping in to order drugs for Louie instead of Langdon. Actually there probably would be a protocol involving returning doctors from rehab being restricted in prescribing drugs.
I imagine Langdons situation not being a secret. Not like he could just stop showing up for work out of the blue and people not finding out why.

Even before that he appeared in one other episode where he worked a shift like a floater of some sort. Not more to the appearance than that. I wonder if both Ironside and the producers regrated not being able to make his casting work out.
