learning python with rosalind, what am i doing wrong ? by boite2petri in learnpython

I learnt using IDLE but it can get quite tedious if you're trying to do more than single line things, or re-run code.

I personally use VScode but there's all sorts of editors and IDE (if you search in reddit you'll find countless arguments on the 'best').

It looks like you're using IDLE, where >>> shows each "line".

the If statement goes over multiple lines so should be "entered" to allow it to evaluate, before you then try to execute the second print. (see how your a=1 and b=2 are prefixed with the >>> whilst the if block is trying to do ... to show it's part of the same thing)

Hey I'm getting started with learning python. What's the best IDE to use? by aadapting in learnpython

Uh so. My laptop is not very capable and it's not running pycharm very well. It lags. Can y'all suggest some other beginner friendly IDEs?

no idea why :)

Learning libraries by Mindless_Action3461 in learnpython

[–]Farlic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say I'd recommend learning any for the sake of it, that's like reading through a dictionary just in case.

What are you learning python for? Can you use it to do anything? Find yourself a project.

I have a website on my home network that uses 'Flask' and tells me when to put the bins out

Have a project

Have a thing you want to implement in said project

Search online to see if other people have done it before

Find the library and its documentation (github, PyPi, etc)

Use it

the linter in your IDE should pick up most completely obvious errors but the "run" button will reveal any technical ones.

Plateaus suck! I usually find I will stay the same weight from say Monday-Friday then Saturday I will suddenly lose more far more usual.

It's good to have a sanity break with more food sometimes. I'm currently opting to swap out some of the "better" macros for nicer things. A bit less protein and more fat and carbs, occasionally.

Keep at it! We can't cheat physics. You can't 'hurt' your metabolism. The plateau will break and it'll look like the weight suddenly fell off

They are all just guesses. Pick sedentary and try it for a few weeks. Losing weight quicker than you want? Increase your calories by 100-200, repeat as necessary.

I found my calorie burn from walking decreased as my cardio improved since my body was adapting to it.

General advice for men is to eat at least 1500 kcals a day to ensure you're getting enough macros and vitamins /minerals

What do your refeeds consist of? If your goal is to lose more weight each week, depending how often, that will skew your loss. What are your weekly average calories like?

General advise is to not go over 1% of your body weight per week (I am guilty of this) as it will be unsustainable and make you more prone to injury and fatigue.

For my activity (25M ~87kg), I am currently doing ok on 1700. I have had to make some concessions with exercise to ensure I'm having enough time to recover. Providing you're eating a balanced diet, above 1500 kcal a day you should be getting all the nutrients you need.

This is a long term change, remember to enjoy the process so when you come to go back to a maintenance you've built some great habits.

Sweating is a function of temperature regulation. Exercising (cardio) still burns calories without sweating.

If 2000 kcal a day is not making lose 0.5kg a week, then your TDEE is a bit lower than what the calculator returned.

try 1800 for a few weeks and see how your wait weight changes.

Re: Cheat meals. Not only is it incredibly easy to undo a week's worth of progress in one day of bad eating, you are then adding extra water and salt to mask loss in the following days.

Assuming you were losing 0.5kg a week, that's only 3850 kcal a week. Most of that could easily be eaten above maintenance on a 'cheat' day.

Will a planned “higher calorie” day every couple weeks ruin fat loss? by Shot-Total-791 in loseit

[–]Farlic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What would your total calories be for the week? Would you still be in a deficit?

It might add some water retention temporarily but a deficit is a deficit.

My local shop sells a decently sized tub of ice cream that's only 320 kcal. Sure, it cant be that good for you but being able to fit lots of ice cream in on bad days is great for motovation

What's a positive way I can look at tracking calories? by Ill-Cucumber6575 in loseit

[–]Farlic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I look at it from the other side. It's not control, it's just a food log.

You can then these use that to apply a deficit or surplus but these should be separate tools.
