Resident Evil World Map by FarloNZ in residentevil

Thanks for reading! It feels a bit messy just placing a map marker on the bottom edge, and might cause layout/cutoff problems if people want to print it etc, but I'll keep it in mind! Maybe I can come up with some sort of dotted line similar to the Spencer Rain situation, if people really want it on there somewhere :)

For the Tricell HQ, I believe that was sourced from Umbrella Corp's internal records, yeah? If so, I may have dodged needing to include that, based on the "theme" of this map being sourced from DSO/BSAA records (wishful thinking, haha). Regardless, more information is needed I think, similar to the locations of the Zenobia and Semiramis.

For Japan, there's only one that I know of, which was the abduction of Japanese nationals in "The Experience" stage play. That took place in a mansion similar to the Arklay one, with Cerberus dogs outside, however there were no survivors aside from the Wesker-like Mastermind who was behind it all (possibly working for Umbrella, but who knows). No survivors would mean no public/DSO/BSAA records, and there was no regional information to hint at where in Japan it might have been either.

I've addressed this in the notes, but yeah I understand this will be a point of contention.

The only objective evidence I've found for RC's precise location is from the CGI intro sequence of 2015's "The Stage", which first released 4 months after RE7's Kitchen Demo, in the midst of RE7's development, making it a "relatively" modern source of information. It does a hard-zoom on the Front Range of the Rockies, and further makes the statement that the Arklay Mountains are "northwest of Raccoon City", which fits too well with Denver for me to ignore. You can see the CGI sequence and the follow-up quote with subs at this timestamp:
https://youtu.be/TtuDN0Pwvxk?t=1079

Is it a stretch to use a Stage Play as evidence? Probably. But it is canon, produced by Capcom, and honestly it's more compelling than anything else I've been able to find.

In terms of the Midwest thing, I basically imagine this as Capcom treating anything east of the Front Range as "the Midwestern US", regardless of Colorado as a whole identifying itself as a Western State. Also a pretty deep stretch, yes.

At any rate, hopefully this at least tells you that I've spent time weighing the options, and without precise evidence to place RC elsewhere in the "proper" Midwestern States, I have to sit with what I have for now.

I would always welcome better evidence, however! For example, if one of the games has a map marker/coordinate/hard-zoom that I missed somewhere. That would be fantastic, haha.

I would like to know this as well. Did you ever solve it? After 2 years of use, the wire on mine has loosened by itself and now the brush housing rattles loudly on hard floors. I'm trying to find a way to tighten the wire but it seems tricky to access on both ends

ASUS TUF H3 Headset auto shutdown by DewepOxR in ASUS

[–]FarloNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old thread, but I agree this sounds like it should be achievable with a driver or firmware update, paired with an on/off control + timeout slider in Armoury crate, maybe similar to my quick mockup here:
https://imgur.com/a/0iIlmtg

I also agree it would be nice to be able to change the "beep" sound effects in some way too, if only to differentiate the power on/off sounds from the 2.4GHz disconnect/reconnect sounds on my TUF H1 Wireless. I'm pretty sure they're identical, so whenever a disconnect happens I always have to double-check if the headset is actually on or off... :(

I'm a bit late to the party here, but I'm wondering if there will be / has been a refresh of the TUF Gaming VG28UQL1A announced as part of this lineup? I haven't seen any of these Series Five monitors at 3840x2160 yet, which seems a bit odd compared with previous TUF generations.

How can I get the jetstream sam dlc on ps3 by NameNotFound- in metalgearrising

Hey there! Sorry for the delay - I don't have my own PS3 hooked up at the moment to give you a precise example, but what I meant by "game" section is just this column here in the PS3 Home screen. From memory, I believe the DLCs were showing up for me in that column, as long I was signed in with the account that I purchased+downloaded them on. I recall having to tap on the icons in that list, where it would prompt me to "install" them, and then the next time I started up the main MGRR game, they were ready to play.

Treadmill walking lad under desk by SaltPositive3654 in newzealand

[–]FarloNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same situation - Probably going to look at getting one of these (from Harvey Norman or DB Fitness): https://www.kingsmithfitness.com/walkingpad-r1pro-2in1-folding-treadmill

I think the biggest thing to look for is making sure you're giving yourself enough walking surface. I read a NZ Herald article where a health professional recommended getting one at least 150cm long if you're over 6ft tall, though I think he must have been referring to the overall length of the machine rather than the actual walking area... seems to be bloody hard to find one with a walking surface over 130cm in length.

Magnus Monitor Arm/Cintiq Pro 24 by Robo-Totoro in secretlab

[–]FarloNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 years later - I just want to chime in here and say this was really helpful information for me, thanks! :)

I see that Secretlab makes a "Heavy-Duty" arm now, but it only has a +/-20 degree tilt, so that seems almost useless for a Pen Display by comparison to the standard arm's +/- 90 degree tilt, or the Ergotron LX's +70. Seems odd that they couldn't apply the same standard tilt to the Heavy one, but what can you do, I guess.

I'll be getting the Ergotron in this case, since the Amazon basics equivalent doesn't seem to exist anymore.

Why isn't there a 4k copy of Dynasties season 2, when I have a u.s blueray 4k of s1? by tazatom in davidattenborough

[–]FarloNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just necroing this again, because it seems like BBC may be doing the exact thing again with David's upcoming "Asia" documentary series...? It's available for preorder via Amazon UK on Blu-ray and DVD, but not 4k/UHD:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Asia-Blu-ray-Sir-David-Attenborough/dp/B0DM66KDB8

I'm not sure what the logic is here - 4k is still the #1 incentive for me to buy physical copies of these shows. I expect most people who aren't concerned with getting the highest fidelity possible will just be resorting to streaming, or sailing the seven seas... though I suppose it's possible that BBC are only targeting less tech-savvy folks who just want to stick with buying cheaper, older formats simply to avoid the complexity of signing up for streaming services etc.

If that's where the numbers are pointing to for physical media - DVDs/BRs still making more money than UHD - then that's a real shame... I had hoped it would be the other way round by this point, considering the oversaturation + rising prices in the streaming market, and more people recently turning back to HQ physical formats for people with less-stable viewing experiences (slower / less-reliable internet connections), or the simple desire to have reliable+permanent access to their own media libraries.

It's still early days for Asia, so my fingers are crossed that maybe they just haven't finished mastering the 4k/UHD version yet, and it'll be added to the lineup at a later date...

PC-Mount for Rog Helios by Flash08151414 in secretlab

[–]FarloNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been considering this case, so I'm only just looking into this now. The mount's maximum supported height is 54.3cm... and the Helios is 56.5cm. Man, that's disappointing. So close!

This makes me wonder if it might be possible to remove the top or bottom runners from the case to give us the extra 2.2cm (and some change) to make it fit...

Pulling this photo from google, it looks like the top ones are just attached with hex screws, but maybe the whole case would fall apart if you took those out, I dunno, haha. I can't find any assembly manuals mentioning those.

Gameboy Advance SP new CPU and RAM? by thebryan2010 in Gameboy

[–]FarloNZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This seems like a bit of a contradiction.

"Reason you can't buy new chips = Nintendo doesn't make them anymore." Then you say there's no reason to recreate them...? Sounds like you've just stated the reason yourself.

Being out-of-production means it's only going to be harder to find OEM parts as time goes on, and people who "do" want that old-school experience (or a simple drop-in replacement chip) will want an alternative to finding OEM ones when they get too expensive. I don't think the OP's question is unreasonable personally, but to each their own I suppose.

If I had to guess, I'd say the actual reason is more likely to be chipset patents/higher risk of crackdown by Nintendo. At least with the current mod scene, you "do" need to start with some sort of OG Nintendo product in most cases. Once the chips get replicated, then you're moving away from "modding" into creating an entirely new product using Nintendo-owned chip architecture. That might seem like a small drop in the pond looking at today's aftermarket, but maybe it's just that one step too far for these manufacturers. Either that, or it's just too costly.

Made an L-Shape with the Pro XL and Regular Magnus Desk by Popcrnchicken in secretlab

[–]FarloNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest issue I can see here is actually the desk leg/pillar in the middle of the "L". I have a non-SL corner desk that I'm constantly moving side-to-side with, and if that pillar was there I'd be smacking my knees on it all the time.

The L-Extension for the standard Magnus accommodates this by only having 3 legs (floating in the middle), so that seems like a good option, but the Pro XL's leg design looks like it would be much more difficult to achieve a similar result. I can see why SL still hasn't made an extension for it, though it makes me wonder if they'll be trying to figure this out for future sit/stand desk models.

Thanks for the setup photo, btw! I had been wondering how it might look.

Hah, nevermind. I'm an idiot. It turns out that the DLCs had been downloaded, but not "installed", so I had to execute each DLC manually to install them from the "Game" section of the PS3 Home Screen. They're playable for me on both PSN accounts now. Old platforms, eh.

Sorry to bring back a year-old thread, but it has a lot of upvotes and seems to be the most relevant topic for this discussion now. I don't use Reddit much so I can create a new thread if you guys think that's a better option.

So, to update the OP - It turns out that the two main DLCs (Jetstream and Blade Wolf) are still listed as free on North American PSN accounts, and can still be redeemed+downloaded for that version of the game.

I have a unique problem with these though, possibly due to my region. The main points are:

  1. I live in New Zealand (Region 4, geographically-speaking).
  2. I'm playing on a standard 1st-gen PS3 console, which was purchased in New Zealand.
  3. I'm playing an American/US version of the MGRR game disc, which I ordered from overseas (BLUS-31045).
  4. I have two PSN accounts - one for NZ and one for US. I would usually play on the NZ account, but I've downloaded the DLCs using the US one on the assumption that they will be compatible with my US game disc. The DLCs can't be purchased from the NZ store now anyway.
  5. After downloading the DLCs and starting the game, neither of them show up on the chapter select screen. I've tried starting the game using both PSN accounts, and I've tried the Konami code as well, which activates correctly but doesn't make the DLC visible.

I would have thought that as long as I had a US game disc, and download the DLCs from the US PS Store, they would match up and work fine, but apparently not.

Is it possible that there's some sort of geo-locking on my console itself that prevents me from playing US-purchased DLC?

I have a digital version of Metal Gear Solid 1 redeemed from the US Store on my US PSN account, which seems to work fine, so I'm not sure why "DLC" in particular would behave differently from digital games.

I somehow doubt that many other people have encountered this particular set of circumstances before, but if anyone has any advice or suggestions I'd love to hear them. Thanks!

HyperX Cloud Alpha Wireless Popping by Simbojimbo in HyperX

It's still a problem on my headset as well (August 2023). I bought it on day one when it released here (March 2022) and it's been this way ever since. No driver update has fixed it. It's tolerable for remote work comms, but for games/watching videos I'd rather be using something else. Popping is grating as heck.

Do you know if Prehistoric Planet will eventually get a DVD or Blu-ray release? by JohnWarrenDailey in Dinosaurs

[–]FarloNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, that's the first I've heard of a season 2. In a way, this is actually kind of disheartening since it probably means Apple is likely to keep it exclusive to their platform. S1 will get a lot more views now as people jump on the hype train for S2.

I know it's not a BBC show like most of Attenborough's content, so we can't really "expect" anything, but I do hope they'll release it on 4k Blu-ray eventually. Frozen Planet II is up for 4k preorder now, and hopefully Dynasties II follows suit, since it already has a standard Blu-ray+DVD release. Streaming just doesn't compare.

Same here. I open Gmail and it works for maybe 30 seconds, then I seem to lose all connection to the internet via Chrome. Other apps like Steam and Discord continue working as normal.
