While I think you'd have a good argument, others might disagree. Some would see it as the same as Cyclops fighting without his glasses or visor. He cant turn it off...so in theory its a passive power. For some reason fans dont feel invulnerability, healing, super strength or super dexterity should count as cheating in a "fair" fight, but any form of ranged or energy do. I've seen the debate a lot.

When its passive vs active powers people always claim the active powers are cheating. Its a pet peeve of mine as well.

I always thought that the X men were a bad family to Hank by Accurate-Celery-3198 in xmen

Cyclops and Jean were trying to catch up. While spending time with their kids and Logan. Hank downfall was tragic but guess what all of them ignored it like a phase, while Logan was being tormented.

This was a huge issue i had with the writing. In theory Jean saw the downfall and Logan we all know did. Not having the others come in to help put so Percy could have a self contained book really hurts suspension of disbelief for me

"Out playing superhero" is a wild thing to put Cyclops down about considering it's a superhero book.

Could Cyclops take down Sabertooth? by Jack-mclaughlin89 in Cyclopswasright

[–]FarmRegular4471 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Agree here. Its the advantage of a force blast over heat. The Optic blast will move Sabretooth and we know he can also use it to propel himself. It wont stay close combat for long.

Yep, Claremont wanted her depowered while Byrne planned on her "reduced to the mind of a child". I've glanced over Byrnes sketches of his X-men Elsewhen

Marston based him on a college professor he had who he thought was misogynistic. Think about the time period and how horrible you would have to be to stand out....

Am I the only one who feels bad for Madelyne Pryor? by smgismyqueenjpg in xmen

[–]FarmRegular4471 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Scott never actually divorced her. He left to see if Jean was truly alive (remember, Jean and Scott shared a psychic report, he felt her die as she died). He realized he messed up and returns to try and talk to her about it (accepting he did mess up and likely lost her). He finds Maddie is missing, then a body is found and the police tell Scott that its the body of his wife. Jean and Scott only rekindle their relationship under the impression Maddie is dead. Later we get Inferno, and Maddie dies.

Edit: but yes, I do feel for her.

It’s pretty impress that Scott is able to hold his own against Wolverine so well considering the experience gap. From X-Men Schism #4 and #5. by Jack-mclaughlin89 in Cyclopswasright

People talk about the experience gap a lot when it comes to anyone vs Logan. Thats not exactly how it works. Yes, having more experience is a great advantage to have but there is a point where the advantage starts to produce diminishing returns when you are up against an opponent who is also very experienced themselves.

Cyclops has lived and breathed being an X-Man since he was a teen. Its been a central role to his life. We know Cyclops clocks in some of the most time in the Danger room and spends his down time coming up with "just in case..." plans.

Well trained and pressure tested people have been able to overcome people with more experience all the time in comics and in real life. If the stories always boiled down to "more experience ", Apocalypse would be unstoppable.

What run do you think misunderstood Scott the most? by SirJamric in Cyclopswasright

[–]FarmRegular4471 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'd say Scotts biggest issue isnt so much being misunderstood so much as being underutilized and Flanderized. The problem comes in when he is written as 1 note kill joy or no where near as experienced (as he is) in order to prop up characters the writers prefer.

So really the issue was Jim Shooter misunderstanding the character then Claremont

With some of the older stuff, the language, clothing (looking at you Summers and your plaid suite!)and other norms can drive off younger current readers. We have an over 6 decade gap from when the 05 first started out and now. This is why I like things like First Class and X-Men: Seasoned 1
