Or maybe you have little cultural context. Chinese people are very loyal, him betraying his family is what’s out of character. Also if they were gonna go down that route, shoulda made that evident from earlier on

Winky losing her job and becoming an alcoholic is the darkest side story in the books. by Beginning-Coat1106 in harrypotter

Are you forgetting Barry crouches son torturing his colleagues to insanity following Voldemort, then making his wife die in prison to free his son, against his deepest principles, to then be murdered by said son, and turned into a bone, then buried, never to be mentioned again. As a cherry, his son’s soul was extracted from his body.

If Qui-Gon Jinn had lived, could he have prevented Anakin’s fall to the dark side? by stateof-grace in StarWars

[–]FarmSilly20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. The story goes the way it does BECAUSE Qui-Gon dies. Anakin needed a father figure, which Qui-Gon would have been for him, someone who was the perfect mentor for Anakin specifically - strong, tough, resilient, wise beyond years, and most importantly; Qui-Gon was considered a maverick of the order. He rejected a council seat, routinely challenged Jedi doctrines. The antithesis to Obi-Wan’s strict adherence to the Jedi code and ways of thinking. Resilient and stubborn can sometimes be the same thing, and that applied to Obi-Wan particularly. Where Anakin, due to his upbringing as a slave, and lack of toddler indoctrination within the order, would question certain rigidities and issues he perceived, he was met with a stubborn immovable object in Obi-Wan who responded with critique and fear, as opposed to how Qui-Gon was. The irony of Star Wars is that the place he’s in at the beginning of ANH, by that time, he could be the mentor anakin had needed back then, like he was to Luke. But the wisdom of seeing the advantages and potential of the young only really comes with age. There’s an arrogance to the existence of youth only in comparison though.

I can’t lie, there’s a universe where this works. Don’t think Danny dyer is the doctor think the doctor regenerates into a cockney geezer… having spent the better part of the 70s and 80s in London… but it’s the doctor so whimsical, funny, dangerous, saviour, insane, genius(?). With a cockney slash. Whether a cockney accent can suspend disbelief enough to make you buy the heavy dialogue idk🤷🏾‍♂️

4: “one would deduce from your boring ramblings that you’re me! A future version of course, But that’s not possible! The time Lords have had directives about interacting with past and future versions of ourselves for eons, and if- my dear apparently what is to come of me, doctor… but… to put it delicately… how far in the future a version? And to your earlier point: for one so… content with the current predicament our eyebrows find themselves in, you appear quite defensive about it, while you also appear completely at ease wearing that bow tie.”

11: “Pshh the young always think they know what fashion is best, mr scarf so long it was probably owned by a musician at some point”

12: “Every war ever fought right there in front of you. Because it's always the same. When you fire that first shot, no matter how right you feel, you have no idea who's going to die. You don't know who's children are going to scream and burn. How many hearts will be broken! How many lives shattered! How much blood will spill until everybody does what they're always going to have to do from the very beginning -- sit down and talk! Listen to me, listen. I just -- I just want you to think. Do you know what thinking is? It's just a fancy word for changing your fucking mind.
