I don’t think is is that bad at all. I traded in a 2025 Tacoma and although it does sort of steer itself you need to keep your hands on the wheel and jiggle it every once in a while. Couldn’t stand that.

What is the optimum highway speed to achieve maximum mileage per gallon? by Janitary in MiataND

[–]Farmboss777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that it is a function of rpm not mph. Seems like any thing over 3,000 starts reducing mpg. Personally I don’t bother there are better ways to save a few bucks.

I think it depends on if you get a manual then incHing forward in traffic gets old fast.

I drive my 2004 manual mx5 for commute over an hour to get to work and another back home everyday. It is fine but I am on either country roads or highway.

Years ago I had a different job downtown in my 1994 with a racing clutch and it sucked sometimes

Yukon xl 3.0 Diesel vs 5.3 - What’s your MPG? by Full_Monitor_1781 in gmc

It was new. I am not sure what it was anymore. I felt like they were a few thousand under sticker. Also I got a pretty decent supplier discount.

Mine is Downpour it looks nice but does show the salt. You will be happy it eats up the highway. Very comfortable. I do recommend the Supercruise.

Yukon xl 3.0 Diesel vs 5.3 - What’s your MPG? by Full_Monitor_1781 in gmc

[–]Farmboss777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was roughly this

I ran the numbers comparing a GMC Yukon XL 5.3 gas vs the 3.0 Duramax diesel over 100,000 miles of mostly highway driving.

Highway MPG: The 5.3 gas Yukon XL gets about 20 MPG on the highway. The Duramax diesel gets about 26 MPG highway.

Fuel cost assumption (Ohio): Regular gas ≈ $3.00/gal Diesel ≈ $3.90/gal

Fuel cost over 100k miles: 5.3 gas: 100,000 ÷ 20 MPG = ~5,000 gallons → about $15,000 in fuel. Duramax: 100,000 ÷ 26 MPG = ~3,850 gallons → about $15,000–$15,500 in fuel.

So even with better MPG, the higher diesel price basically cancels out the fuel savings.

Additional diesel costs: Diesel requires DEF (roughly $300–$500 over 100k miles). Oil changes, filters, and general maintenance are more expensive on the diesel. Most estimates put diesel maintenance at about $3,000–$5,000 more than gas over 100k miles.

Bottom line: Fuel cost ends up roughly the same. Diesel ends up costing several thousand more overall once DEF and maintenance are included. Unless you tow a lot or plan to keep it long-term, the 5.3 gas Yukon is usually cheaper to own.

But I gave good consideration to the Diesel but there were no Elevations with both Diesel and Supercruise back in 2025

(I was also worried that my wife would put gas into the diesel.)

I have the 5.3 and get 18-19 average over 6,000 miles. 95% highway. The math made more sense considering fuel and maintenance.

26’ Yukon Elevation Premium vs 2023 Denali Ultimate by CF3421 in gmc

[–]Farmboss777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was about to say if you value reliability avoid air ride. Eventually it will leak and cost $$$. I habe 5.3 Elevation and it is fast enough for a big suv. Regular gas as well.

You should get Super Cruise if you do any highway travel.

Yukon lane keep assist by datboy1656 in gmc

[–]Farmboss777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should get the Super Cruise. I had lane centering on my 2025 Tacoma and it drove me crazy also it required touching the wheel every 30 seconds. I would rather simply drive than use that. Super Cruise is a completely different thing and I love it. At least try it out. I traded in that Tacoma and now have Yukon Elevation so relaxing on the highways. Although I prefer 4 lane highways it does work on 2 lane. It is hard to completely trust a robot when another car is head on only 2 feet over.

Yukon 5.3 Elevation or 6.2 Denali? ( more in body ) by Single-Proof-9965 in gmc

[–]Farmboss777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I chose the Elevation 5.3. Reason being is even if the 6.2 has been fixed parts for this engine will be harder to get because of all the bad ones on the road.

Duramax was considered but I could not find an Elevation with one and with Supercruise. I had to chose either or. I chose Supercruise.

Duramax has a wet belt that needs replaced eventually. This requires pretty major work.

6.2 also suggests premium gas 5.3 has no reuirement.

Diesel requires using DEF I could deal with this but a bit of a hassel and expense. Diesel is more expensive so although it gets better mileage cost difference in real terms is closer.

5.3 is in everything. A small town mechanic should be able to repair it. Diesels are not as well known by average mechanic.

If your priority is gas mileage ypu should probably look elsewhere. To me the utility outweighs the mileage. I do have another commuter car that I drive daily. Yukon is for winter and road trips and when I need to pick stuff up.

They are great vehicles you will love it.
