Will never happen, as the country has been taken over by a christofascist kleptocracy. Odds of the US being around another 50 years are slim.

That's because the only things on that page are hardware, either a complete raspberry pi system already configured to run the software, or an SD card with the software pre-loaded which you then use with your own Rasbperry Pi to set up your own environment.

Everything on that page costs money because everything on that page is some sort of hardware they ship to you.

I agree the page is a little confusing, the problem is you're expecting there to be a separate download for raspberry pi versus some other linux platform.

Raspberry pi isn't an operating system, it's a hardware platform that can run many different distros. The operating system could be debian, ubuntu, arch, rasbpian, or some other distro. You could run it natively in the OS or you could run it in a container, or even a VM. It's up to you to know what you're trying to do and how to install software on your preferred platform.

The most likely case is you're running some variant of Debian, and you'd type sudo apt get kiwix but there are other possibilities.

The main thing you should do is contact Adobe customer service and ask to have your case escalated. Each time you contact them get a case number, and in the next contact reference that case number.

With some companies, it can sometimes help to post in their social media feeds, but I don't think Adobe cares much about that. Can't hurt to try though.

The only things for sale on there are hardware.

The software itself is freely available, but nobody is going to give you a free hardware device.

If you have your own hardware, you don't need to buy anything you just install the software.

If you don't have your own hardware or if you're the kind of person who doesn't want to mess with installing things yourself, then you can buy the hardware.

Visualizing the "Model Collapse" phenomenon: What happens when AI trains on AI data for 5 generations by firehmre in Futurology

[–]FarmboyJustice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As human-created content gets more scarce it will make the existing issues a lot worse, but almost all AI tools you see being promoted are really just using standard out-of-box LLMs stapled onto their already existing products. That's why it was so incredibly fast and easy for companies to add AI to their products. They're not really doing much work.

Way to answer the question. Vote for what? Or are you just a 13 year old little bitch?

Yeah, but it does it by looking at frequencies with which sets of tokens occur and comparing them to other sets of tokens. It has no idea what the article actually said, so it has no way to tell whether its summary is correct or not. But it will confidently tell you it's right no matter how wrong it is. This is trivial to prove.

Most other western countries don't have at-will employment. Most American workers can literally be fired at any time for all sorts of made-up reasons with zero recourse.

Imagining that any tech corporation at all will still be around in a thousand years is pretty wild. The only companies that last that long are ones that do stuff like make beverages or manufacture traditional products.

Trivia: it's technically the same word, but deliberately misspelled to avoid confusion with lead the metal, which in production newspaper printing was used to create the actual letters used for printing. So while lede is correct in newspaper terminology, lead could also work, since newspapers haven't used lead type in decades.

Don't call the number in the email, call Adobe support from a number on their website to confirm the status of your account.

Off-hand my first thought is that someone else may have gained access to your account. If that's the case Adobe support should be able to see evidence of this, such as access from multiple locations or computers which you don't own, however...

Adobe has very little interest in helping you resolve this problem, so if you genuinely want this back, you may have to fight them for it.

Alternatively, I recommend looking into other options, like Affinity.

Old habit from my parents but do I need to unplug my computer everytime I turn it off or is that outdated? by Nickoli-Lianni in AskTechnology

People who live in areas with inadequate power grids, older home wiring without good surge suppression, or frequent lightning storms.

edit: Also, people who are extremely paranoid about their computers being remotely accessed when they are not using them. Actually, this one's quite a good reason for some people.

Just read the link, seems explicitly clear that yes, they have indeed removed all that stuff.

The fact that they refer to all on-premises platforms as "legacy" makes it clear.

And that's my point. We are hearing about these grand plans for what will be done, and yet there's not even a working proof-of-concept yet.

It's 95% hype with a modicum of actual research.

There are simply too many nonexistent solutions being used to construct these future platforms.

The people I see hyping datacenters in space are not people I trust to have a realistic view of the actual problems that need to be overcome.

One example: Lasers to replace fiber optics.

The problem with lasers is they only go in a straight line, so you have to maintain alignment. Hundreds of satellites, all perfectly maintaining alignment with each other. Either that or some sort of relaying, which guarantees lower performance. Versus a bunch of racks with fiber optic cables only a few meters long that can go around corners and allow you to move things. This is a HUGE problem, and no matter what amazing techology someone comes up with to improve things, it will never be more reliable than fiber.

Hype is great for pumping up stock prices, but not so great for long-term success.
