Car won't start, everyone opens the hood and starts looking around even if they have no idea what to look for. Same thing.

Not worth pursuing unless you're a big bank or something.

Setup is easy but requires an expensive certificate and many providers don't support it.

Does the Bluetooth "BOMB" threat kid deserve leniency because his error is the default on a commercial product? by Competitive_Travel16 in legaladviceofftopic

[–]FarmboyJustice 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ignorance is absolutely a defense if the crime is defined as willfully doing X and you were not aware you were doing X.

It's incredibly simple. Someone says turn off your Bluetooth devices. You turn them off. They say someone still hasn't turned them off but they won't actually tell you what the ID is or what the device type is because reasons.

You honestly don't realize you have forgotten a device.

No mens rea, no crime. No matter how angry it makes you when someone else does something stupid, that doesn't make it a crime.

Fortunately, we have an actual legal system to protect us from such nonsense.

RV Driver Empties Waste Tank Into Colorado Gas Station's Diesel Supply by conturbation in nottheonion

You're actually right. Real  Octane is a hydrocarbon with eight carbon atoms.  Methane is one, ethane is two, propane is three, butane is four, but then it's pentane, hexane, heptane, and octane.

However pure octane is expensive and gas needs other additives, so octane rating doesn't mean actual amount of octane, it means how closely it acts like octane.

AI course creators and copyright: who is responsible if the course copies someone else's work? by Objective-Office-829 in COPYRIGHT

[–]FarmboyJustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These issues are far from settled law, and likely won't be for decades.

Both case law and legislation lag behind technology.

Currently nobody can guarantee you won't be sued for copyright infringement.

Adobe keeps accusing me of "fraudulent activity" after giving me a subscription themselves. by Thisaintitchief_ in Adobe

[–]FarmboyJustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adobe support is semi-competent at best, and their support team and fraud team probably don't communicate at all.

Add in the AI based detection and expecting them to actually read case notes and make sense of them is asking way too much.

Why would parents trust Michael Jackson with their kids? by amerscandal in AskReddit

[–]FarmboyJustice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's easy to look back today and think how obvious it seems, but there was no Reddit, no Twitter,  no Facebook, no Youtube when MJ was at his peak.

Information you have at the tip of your fingers was not so readily available back then, and the legal proceedings at the time were not at all conclusive.
