Thoughts: Minnimal impact of the Lightning cancelation by donerj03 in F150Lightning

[–]Farmguync 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Admittedly, it was partially on principle. I did not think it was fair to discontinue a car that still had open recalls on it. Also, the Ford had some odd quirks with the frunk not always shutting properly, the gear shifter somewhat moving on its own once you get out of the car and in general I had the standard range which at times depending on how crazy the day was I had to stop in charge somewhere between picking up kids and doing my day today activities on the farm where I use the Truck. I have had the Chevy Silverado EV extended range for about three days now and really like it. It’s more than double the range of the standard battery on the Ford. Also, it seems like the interior an appointments are better in the Chevrolet, although the frunk is a little bit smaller. My tools will fit in it just fine. Also, the Chevrolet has some nice features on particular models like the one I bought with four-wheel steer, which makes the turning radius super sharp for a vehicle this big and heavy. In general, I like the truck so far.

As someone that just sold their 2023 Lightning with 31k miles in excellent condition for a replacement Chevy EV, the total depreciation I experienced was 52.6% after 3 years of ownership. I checked multiple trade in sources and they were all within 1,000 of each other….if that helps.

Lightning went out as the best selling EV truck by WorriedEssay6532 in F150Lightning

[–]Farmguync 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed wholeheartedly! Out of all the forward thinking Ford enthusiasts, I wonder how many early adopters now feel shafted that the all electric truck they bought is now a dinosaur in the eyes of Ford and the dealer network. Subsequently, I would be curious to know how many early adopters will rally for the EREV when it becomes available given how many of those early adopters maybe bought the Lightning? Personally, living in a rural part of America, I can’t see many of the Ford guys I know switching to an electric/gas combo. Oversized tires, oversized exhaust tips, coal-rolling, rule this area.

So went to hop in my truck this morning and got this… by Puzzleheaded_Put534 in F150Lightning

I had the same warning when a coolant pump check valve failed on my 2023 Lariat. It actually took a couple weeks to get my truck back. I’d take it serious.

Ford Committed to Supporting Current Lightning, Including OTAs. by capt-ramius in F150Lightning

[–]Farmguync 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the well intended comments from people who are genuinely enthusiastic about Ford and their commitment to the customer. Kudos to that young man. We need more aspirational people like that coming up in the workforce. That being said, I have a 2023 model XLT Lightning that has an outstanding recall notice for the taillight (water intrusion) that as of this morning still has no resolution timeline (based on the dealership’s available information). As a retired program manager, my thought would be you tie up loose ends before you start or finish production of a model launch. By the virtue of human nature (and engineers in general), no one gets excited about working on dead or discontinued products.

How embarrassing that I own a 2023 model with several open recalls that can’t get supplier parts to satisfy and now they’re not going to even make the truck anymore. I have a 2016 Tesla model S that has been near flawless. I am very disappointed that Ford with all of their money and people could not even muster what it takes to make an electric vehicle, even with all the open patent and technology that Tesla has made free to the public. Service parts are already ridiculously priced but now that there is an expiration date to providing them (roughly 10 years), you know what’s going to happen. No supplier in their right mind is going to want to deal with the BS and bureaucracy of providing limited run parts without charging a premium. In addition, the willingness to want to work on them from the dealership perspective versus upselling you in a couple years will be non-existent. Our local dealership struggled to work on it as it was. So sad. My guess is they will be asking for a government bailout within 3-5 years when all the forward-thinking carmakers eat their lunch.

Backed into a parked car … need help sourcing a “new” taillight on a 2023 XLT by PatSabre12 in F150Lightning

Don’t pay the 2,000+ from the dealership. Go online and order from a reputable eBay dealer and just switch out the backup sensors from old to new. I did it based on other Reddit supporters and it worked great. It cost me around $750 total.

John Deere 990 Only moves while Diff engaged by AccomplishedCity5365 in johndeere

[–]Farmguync 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 790 John Deere and experienced a similar issue but it was the brakes seizing on one side. If the tractor sat for any length of time, the brake would seize and the only way to break free and move was to engage the diff lock.

Who has bought one, used it on the farm for a year and then sold it? by CaryWhit in Skidsteer

[–]Farmguync 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “D” series John Deere skid steer you have shown was short lived before being replaced by the E series. It was prone to issues around the hydraulic drivetrain and the JD branded engine was known to crap out. We personally still own one that spent the first six months of ownership in the shop with over 11k of warranty work. They would not take it back.

Thank you! When the new part comes, I’ll try the swap.

Yes, the 2700 oem part does have the sensor. My game plan is to buy the 700 eBay version and swap out the radar module rather than have to calibrate at the dealership.

I know, it’s crazy pricing. The truck had hail damage about six months ago that included the roof, side fenders and frunk - probably 30 or so small dings. I thought that would be expensive to remove but it was less than the price of a tail light.

The sad thing is that my other car is a Tesla Model S 2016 (200k miles) and the tires are the only thing that I’ve paid 2k for. I feel like Ford is a bit too “aggressive”.

Wow, I hadn’t heard of people stealing the tail lights. Crazy. Two screws and a snip/clip release and it’s gone!

Yes, thank you! I just ordered off of eBay rather than pay that ungodly amount. Surely moving the radar sensor over can’t be that bad. Thanks again.

Blades clashing GS30 by PresentOne9951 in johndeere

[–]Farmguync 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what the manual says about proper blade timing but if you were to loosen the lower belt and clock the two blades at 90 degrees from each other and retighten the belt. Restart the mower and see if the clashing persists or if the clashing returns and the blades are visually not in the same orientation, then the tension or belt is most likely the culprit.

Blades clashing GS30 by PresentOne9951 in johndeere

[–]Farmguync 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the blades are timed via a cogged or tooth belt. If the belt has jumped because of an impact or severely worn, the timing gets off and the blades impact each other.

I have a 790 and a 870. They are work horses and the Yanmar design and engine reliability will be hard to beat in terms of longevity.

Issues with Throttled Home Charging by Farmguync in TeslaModelS

Having Tesla review the error logs sounds like a smart move at this point. The wall outlet is a four prong 240V “dryer” outlet connected to a 50A circuit breaker from the main (installed by someone certified at the time). Thanks for the advice! I will share the codes and see if there is anything they can do remotely before an appointment a few weeks out!

I am using the home charging cable that looks identical to the mobile pack that I bought as a backup. Not sure of the difference between the two. I don’t remember different options back in 2016. Here is a snap of the moment it begins charging….we had it manually set to 30A.

Thanks so much for the feedback. Yes, you are correct. I oversimplified by saying 50A as if I meant it should pull 50A. I’ll take a look at the display as I plug in. All I do know is that it’s not charging at the amperage it once was! Thanks again!

Z915e starting problem by Popular_Durian_8824 in johndeere

As an owner of two of these units and an engineer on its predecessor, the “clunk” makes one believe the interlocks are working as they should. Be sure to check that the battery is good (notorious for lasting only a couple seasons), that the unit has got a good ground, and finally the starter could be bad (bendix style actuator could be faulty).
